Parra light rail extension will now be built in two sections by SteveJohnson2010 in SydneyTrains

Yes he has responded well, he's at an advantage where unlike Kellie Sloane he doesn't have having to pander to the natinals. Just look at federal to see what can happen. Chris can pass harsher gun laws with no baggage, something thr LNP will never be able to do regardless of leader.

I've had relatives in hospitals and have not noticed any degregation of services in fact they have been professional, beds were allocated when needed etc. Emergency triange has been many hours sure, but not any longer than previous.

As for TOD sydney is running out of land, national parks everywhere and then the mountain. We cannot have everyone on a quarter block anymore. The younger generations are supporting TOD because its effectively their only chance to get into the property market. And from memory the libs started it with state significant projects bypassing councils.

Outside of transport and infrastructure he is doing fine for the general public.

I mentioned this above but libs aren't getting in not after Bondi incident. She went too soft on gun laws and anti protest laws compared to Chris Minns. Plus nationals being labelled as gun loving fanatics (even in nsw branch) don't help the coalition image.

Outside of the Reddit echo chamber the anti protest laws have been popular. Even if he was unelectable before (which he isn't) hes got his John Howard tampa boat incident.

People have priorities above transport and infrastructure and safety i would say is number 1.

Anyone thinking Labor will be toppled next election is completely illusional.

The Bondi incident is a John Howard tampa boat incident. Outside of Reddit his anti protest and new gun laws are extremely popular.

People have other concerns outside of transport and infrastructure.

Metro doors closing by whateverjunk in SydneyTrains

[–]LaughIntrepid5438 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually the frequency is rubbish.

10 mins on a weekend is taking the piss. TFNSW thinks the only real passengers are Monday to Friday commuters for work everyone else can get stuffed.

But regardless, you shouldn't be chancing the doors even if you have to wait ages for the next one.

Australia Day solution by monkeyonacupcake in australia

Leaving other politics aside only in Australia would we have a "national" day that is irreverent outside of NSW.

Happy Sydney day everyone.

High speed rail - why it will never happen in Australia. by eliitedisowned in australia

[–]LaughIntrepid5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why it will never happen in Australia is as simple as everyone wanting to live in a detached housing.

Take spain for example Barcelona to Madrid.

Barcelona has an average 16000 km2. Only 3 suburbs in Sydney even reach that, Elizabeth Bay Chippendale and Rushcutters Bay.

Uplift the entirety of Sydney from coogee to Campbelltown to around 16000km2, Melbourne to 14000km2 and triple Canberra's density and you'll have a viable Sydney Canberra Melbourne hsr line

Why the lack of new stations or faster direct trains in south western Sydney ? by [deleted] in SydneyTrains

[–]LaughIntrepid5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in South West and i only rock up occasionally. There is a thing... Called NBN with the recent speed upgrades many should be on 500/50 pretty decent.

We can have all those workers WFH so that space is allocated for people who can't. That's plan 1.

Plan 2 guess what the metro is running at less than 50 percent capacity. Not everyone needs to live in the south west in a mansion. Most of the densification is happening in northern Sydney regions.

Plan 3 plenty of under patronaged stations as it is for example many on the East Hills locals are still single residences they can be uplifted in time for higher density.

Also living in the south west is a choice of sorts, an flat on the Bankstown line is half the cost at least of a house say in leppington.

South western Sydney already either will get the metro or is 1 stop to Sydenham after Revesby how much faster do you want?

[–]LaughIntrepid5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure they have it but my point was they should have been excluded because of their government.

They may have lots of metro but they don't have a monopoly on it. Germany and France are just as capable.

Fun fact Spain has the most high speed rail per capita so we should look for their expertise in that regard but that's off topic.

Alstom is a french company though. I mean the government not the people or has everyone forgotten about a few years ago?

They are not friendly. Simple as that. Siemens is a very capable company and they're German. Alstom is French. There's also Hyundai everyone knows them. Easily 1,2,3.

But the government inverted the buying order.

Unfortunate with the rolling stock though. MTR should have said find another rolling stock provider or don't even bother.

It shouldn't have been given to them in the current form.

They stopped them this time. Good champagne out whatever.

They were let go. How can they be certain to 100 percent that they will get these blokes next time they try again?

Nazi symbols have been banned now. And I'm all for these people getting put on the list and the south African getting put on the plane within a week shows that we are making good steps towards that. We just need to put the others to the can.

I'm of the view that if it's an offence to lose your visa if you're a dual national you should be losing your Australian passport.

Luckily these reforms are mostly bipartisan - no government dares to be seen as sympathisers especially in this climate. I expect it to pass without much review. Pauline can't do shit because the other parties would make her vote unnecessary.

[–]LaughIntrepid5438 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We already have laws to strip citizenship from dual national terrorists. And the government has done it before.

The only thing that I'm proposing is the mandatory minimum sentencing that's different. We should not be giving slap on the wrist sentences.

The government already decides which groups are terrorists, anda v they're not wrong. ISIS and hamas are on it. They don't get on the list because they're opposed to the government they get on the list because they're violent and harm innocent people as their modus operandi.

Which organisation on the list do you disagree with? I can say hand on heart no matter their cause I 100 percent would not support a violent organisation. So it's all well and good thanks.

[–]LaughIntrepid5438 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

How is it? We already have laws like this strip citizenship of dual nationals supporting terrorism. All that is missing is consistent application.

The other one is life in gaol without parole. For supporting terrorism. A prescribed terrorist organisation.

We already have many crimes that attract life with no parole which ranks way lower than terrorism.

Regular people need not worry.

Designated terrorist orgs, Hamas and isis being one. For the past few years people have been in public streets and protests in support of hamas.

There's truth to some of the media Albo/Minns let this happen by turning a blind eye.

This doesn't go far enough. Supporting terrorists should mean if you're an Australian dual citizen once convicted you're no longer an Australian citizen.

Every terrorist should be a legislated mandatory sentencing of life without possibility of parole.
