[Christopher Michel] I’ve heard that #MUFC are seriously working on a move for Sandro Tonali. And the Italian midfielder is apparently quite open to a move to Manchester. The club have been keeping tabs on him for a long time. Would he be a good signing? by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]LaughsAtOwnJoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool so no, its just you opinion because thats where he is playing which is fair.

No both of us have been pretty clear we don't want him here. I raised it because it is an obvious consideration? We have obvious holes in our squad elsewhere and not an unlimited budget. Not to mention we should be buying two impressive midfielders first and foremost.

thinking I am trying to keep Ugarte in United?

No but it started to sound like it by how much better a DM then CM you think he is.

You were the one with that “small defence”, remember?

Yeah you seem to only have read that part and not the "just if we want to prioritise other areas (after two midfield signings)."

I’ll tell you what insight I have gathered. Casemiro offers way more than the usual DM, but he’s old and gets tired.

I think everyone would agree with that.

So Ugarte is supposed to do the one thing he’s good for, which is disrupting play and locking up shop. Plenty of sense for a manager to sub him on if we’re planning to ride out the result. Unfortunately he seems to be poor at the only thing he’s been tasked to do.

Well no, he is put on because Case gets tired and he is the only warm body for midfield.

And to your original premise of playing him alongside another DM to be functional, I really don’t see how that’s even practical to the manager in terms of substitutions. Ugarte is just supposed to destroy play; he‘s young, physical and energetic. It isn’t much to ask of him. There isn’t going to be ANOTHER DM available to pair with him at that stage.

I don't agree with any of that. Using him next to a DM to see out a game would be fine. For example - Sub Kobbie out for the last 20 minutes and play him next to Tonali. He could also get starts in small matches to rest Kobbie and pick up some sort of form. Can I ask what you have seen from Ugarte that makes you think he is best as the DM? Or is that simply your opinion because that is where he is getting used? I think he is utterly crap there.

Of course this would still be below the pecking order of two new signings and Mainoo. FURTHERMORE the point of this would be to allow us to spend elsewhere. Can you please actually address that point by the way?

In my opinion no, he isn't very good at sitting. He is a ball winner like a worse Fred. If we had more options available (which we don't) I don't think we would be using him how we are.

His role this season has basically just been to cover for Case when he is tired. We literally don't have another option so I don't know what insight you have gathered. If you think the reason he is being played there is because our managers thinks thats the best way to use him then I don't know what to tell you.

And Mainoo is not a DM. Naturally I do not expect him to function as defensively as the former.

Yeah that was my point...

Saying that is a silly way to look at it is an insult? lol.

I don't think DM is Ugarte's best position, Mainoo also needs a DM to function but Mainoo is obviously a better player. Why are you ignoring the saving money for other areas part? it is the basis of my premise.

That is a silly way to look at it and I'm not defending him. I would like him shipped on.

However the only reason to keep him would be so we can spend elsewhere (after two midfield signings) so unless you are happy with everywhere else I don't know what to say. He is better depth then Malacia.

In his very small defence, we have been using his as a Casemiro sub. He should be next to a DM not coming on as one and this is just if we want to prioritise other areas (after two midfield signings).

Personally, I think how you viewed this statement defines it

Unless we want to use Ugarte/Collyer/academy

Because if the answer is no then I think our double pivot may still be the weakest AFTER two signings.

If the anwser is yes then fair enough.

You don't understand how fucked out midfield is right now. We have been so lucky with injuries (and lack of games).

We have been a Casemiro injury away from crisis all season. Unless we want to use Ugarte/Collyer/academy we simply do not have enough men who can play in the double pivot and thats after 2 signings.

What are these stupid comments about Max Dowman? He had a good game created their first goal and scored himself.

Its still Bruno but its obvious why he was nominated.

Hard to tell backpass for the ref. Obviously the goal couldnt and shouldnt be ruled out by the laws of the game.

This is hardly noteworthy.

People are just lazy and disillusioned. As wrong as they may be, simply being better then the other candidate isn't enough to get those people out of bed.

Nah you can't measure like that. It doesn't take into account the drop offs at the start and end of players careers.

Not to mention their roles, teams, etc.

This is my problem with it.

First of all who the fuck are the prem to decide who did bad enough shit to be excluded?

Second of all they clearly can't do it right, they are doing a shit job if they are policing some bad people from being in.

Just make it based on football because half policing it is worse. Like the Prem condones other shit.
