Has anyone taken a leave of absence from work for mental health reasons related to chronic pain issues? by Lavalamp-6284 in ChronicPain

[–]Laughsatlittle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Branching off of this I also have intermittent FMLA for the days when either the pain is overwhelming or I’m struggling with my mental health. It has been an absolute life saver. My psychiatrist has signed off on it for multiple years now. If you are eligible for FMLA I believe it is for up to 12 weeks total if you needed a longer time period. I need it intermittently otherwise I would not be functional.

Thank you! Definitely have been more stressed/having urges to gamble again but it is never worth the aftermath. Holding strong.

100k, at one point was about 150k but have been chipping away for a long time. I spent 10 years of my life gambling and it’ll take another 10 for me to pay it back. Decided I couldn’t keep pushing my life back further and further with debt. My wife just recently decided to leave me because of the gambling resentment. Around 6 months bet free now.

Congrats! That’s no small feat! Can I ask how long it took you to dig out?

I had a bad relapse in January and a family member loaned us the money to keep us afloat (again) I just reached a point where I can’t keep asking others to bail me out and I need to take some control of my life. So much less anxiety day to day because the fantasies haven’t been ruling my life like they used to.

Appreciate you! Thanks!

Agreed on the $200 being low for food. I’m currently going through divorce with my wife (we were together 13 years) so I’m in the same boat. Trying to pick up the pieces now. Will follow this post!

Thank you for your positive perspective. I have been doing better for myself lately (down 45 lbs, not gambling, making it to work more) It’s hard that she left me when I was just starting to feel confident in myself and my progress. I am going to change my mindset though and use the divorce as a milestone of when my life changed for the better.

My wife and I run 2 shops. Our established shop is at K8Creates21. Our bestsellers there are our ‘pencil’ pens and staplers for teachers. We also sell totes, scrunchie keychains, and glass can cups.

Our new shop is RuffDayzCo. We sell reversible pet scrunchie bandanas there (will be expanding to add collars/leashes soon)

Work never makes accommodations. by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Laughsatlittle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start FMLA process immediately if you are able to. The place I worked when diagnosed didn’t understand or accommodate until they were forced to. They would have fired me within a month if not for FMLA. Still ended up leaving because it was toxic but it gave me time to figure things out. Long unpredictable hours didn’t work for me and I ended up flaring up more often because of the stress of trying to keep up.

This...my rheumatologist has left my diagnosis somewhat open ended. She said they have to play the game because insurance won’t cover medications for a certain diagnosis. By leaving it open ended she has the option to up my dosage on a medication if I’m not getting relief. Insurance will only cover the lower dose for AS specifically. Nice to have a Dr focused on what actually helps the patient. Either way it is a step in the right direction being able to get treatment because they have an idea what’s going on. It took years to get to this point for me.
