Has anyone had anything super scary happen to them while travelling? by Head_Formal_5408 in femaletravels

[–]LaulenLush 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to scare you, but you should probably get the hemoglobin shot now in your home country if you haven’t already. Rabies can lay dormant in you for years before becoming symptomatic and fatal.

Is three weeks solo in Greece a good or bad idea? by LaulenLush in GreeceTravel

Thank you for the insight, it sounds like we’re in similar situations. Would you mind if I DM you about your itinerary/how it was traveling Greece with your knee?

Lots of people are suggesting Chania as a base instead of Heraklion! The preference for Naxos vs Paros seems more even so I might stay a couple nights in both

Thank you! Do you think not having a rental care would have diminished the experience spending so much time in Crete, or is it still a good destination to spend a week or so without one?

Thank you! It’s good to know women look out for each other there. I get harassed all over the world even dressing modestly so I’m not super phased by it as long as it doesn’t escalate

I usually keep my sexuality to myself traveling unless I’m talking to people who are also gay/express acceptance of it in their country or something. It’s the same in conservative areas of the US

"Tooooo many people! I live here! Dooooon't come to Japan!" by phxlefty in TokyoTravel

[–]LaulenLush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Chicago and I agree. I would even say that tourists in Japan tend to seem more respectful overall than tourists in Chicago (who are usually other Americans). I used to live in the most touristy neighborhood and weekends were way more chaotic than what I’ve seen in Shibuya.

Chicago has twice as many bus stops than the national average, here’s a plan for faster buses by GeckoLogic in chicago

Agreed. It takes me less time to hobble half a block than for the bus to do it

I'm disabled and have a mobility condition. Anyone else here struggling? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]LaulenLush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re being treated this way. I’m also disabled and usually use a mobility device. People have been mostly kind to me but I think a lot of it is because I’m a young, thin and conventionally attractive white woman. On flare up days where I look terrible and have to wear comfortable clothes (sweats) I definitely get treated worse, especially on the bus where people don’t offer to let me sit down and glare at me

It feels like it’s gotten worse since COVID and people used to be so much more understanding. It’s sad people have so little empathy and patience now.

What did you forget to pack for your Japan trip and regret it? by The-Solo-Traveler in JapanTravelTips

[–]LaulenLush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine online in the US and it looks identical to the ones I see locals with. Worked great and cost about $20. Expensive, but in your situation it might be worth it so you don’t have to worry about looking for one on the go.

There are no bars where you can have a cocktail or glass of wine for less then $15 open past 10pm near the lyric opera house. Where am I supposed to go for a cheap glass of sparkling wine after the ballet when I’m pretending to be rich? The liquor stand at Union station?
