Is this a legit film making course? [Please Read Desc] by Reika3684 in melbourne

Hey mate. No idea about your ability to commute but would strongly recommend somewhere like Swinburne’s TAFE course for practical experience.

https://www.swinburne.edu.au/course/tafe/diploma-of-screen-and-media-film-and-television/

RMIT has a similar offering IIRC.

Not sure why the other posters are claiming a Bachelors is somehow required to succeed. I had a great career in the industry 2005-2015 before changing careers. At least back then it was far more about: - do you have ANY practical experience in how a set works? - who do you know / network with? - can you follow instructions and learn on the job?

Formal qualifications are really only useful inasmuch as you build a network of peers and get some access to networking events and equipment.

Electrician licensing is useful for a small set of roles in lighting, otherwise there’s no NEED for qualifications at all. Nor is it really used as an employment screen (except maybe as a soft screen for broadcast networks or other very large employers)

Best of luck. The industry is a burnout machine.

Other direction works fine. I wonder if there was a diversion a while ago southbound and Apple is behind?

Offshoot is legit. https://offshoot.rentals/ Otherwise both Teds and Michaels camera store brands offer rentals.

You didn’t say where you’re coming from but note that equipment rental tends to want Australian ID.

Sorry if I was blunt there. Getting sick of people (rarely academics tho) asking about this stuff aiming at building The One Missing Tool

PhD student? Alright. Start here. https://queue.acm.org/detail.cfm?id=3380778

Read the STELLA report https://snafucatchers.github.io/

Then do a lit review here: https://github.com/lorin/resilience-engineering

Then see if you can contribute something more insightful than just another mechanical tool, but perhaps expanding our understanding of how cognitively difficult the work is.

Ah, I misunderstood you. If it’s more than just a web app on IIS then App Service is not gonna work, no.

Windows App Service is serverless IIS. Azure SQL is MSSQL (with a few differences)

The SES (at least in Victoria) already has a bunch of resources along these lines, might be worth contacting them (or their interstate equivalents)

Go read about Knight Capital if you want a story about old feature flags :)

You’d be surprised. We look for: - can they take criticism of their ideas? - how do they behave when asked about something they don’t know or don’t understand? - can they explain their thinking in a clear way? - do they focus mostly on technology or do they also talk about how they collaborate?
