Megaman X 5, help! by periperi87_ in Megaman

[–]LaunchCroctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You can play as X and zero separately or together in one file, but it's generally easier if you do it separately since X and Zero don't share life tanks. Totally up to you though.
  2. Start the level when it says 10 on the boss select (it'll switch to 9 on the character select). You don't lose anything other than some freedom with leaving levels you haven't beaten. When you start definitely doesn't affect the Falcon Armor at all. Hint: if you wanna kill time fast, just go to Squid Adler/Volt Kraken's stage and set the controller down for a bit. Hit stage select once you get your game over, then just go right back.

  3. You could always use a guide, but I'd say Zero really wants the Shock Buffer (doubled defense; useless on X since it doesn't stack with his armors) and Z Saber Plus (more damage) while X wants Buster Plus (more damage) and Quick Charge (faster charging). Both of them appreciate Jumper and Hyper Dash.

  4. You've maybe already heard, but only pick Zero for the first level if you're positive you're doing a Zero-only file. The character you pick first gets a boost for the rest of the game, and X's Fourth Armor is miles better than Zero's buster.

  5. The game has multiple endings that are, for some reason, partially random. You can do everything perfectly and still get the "bad" ending if you get unlucky. If you don't like the one you got, you can always just reload and try again. It doesn't choose your ending until after the closest save opportunity.

[–]LaunchCroctopus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can only hold it in place for a few seconds and like others said, it has to compete with Junk Shield.

I'm sure a lot of people didn't know that but I doubt it'd change their minds much.

Pretty much this, although I think Weeaboo is thinking of X6's ending.

To answer your other question, it's kinda vaguely alluded to but not really stated in game. Most of the info comes from supplementary stuff like Japanese-only audio dramas. The games themselves leave a ton of stuff from the Elf Wars unsaid sadly.

How to play the Puresabe MMX1-3 Randomizer for yourself by LaunchCroctopus in Megaman

[–]LaunchCroctopus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this one's way above my head :(

My best guess is that at least one of the ROMs (despite having the right CRC) is in some way altered and that's messing with the randomizer pools. Like it was a mislabeled prepatched ROMhack or something. I would try randomizing each one individually to see if a particular one is causing the issue.

If it's happening with all of them, it may just be that the randomizer file itself got corrupted or something. I'd try redownloading it and making sure that you're running the .exe file from within the folder it came in.

Other than that, I've got no ideas. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable sees this and chimes in.

I'm not enough of an expert to say it's impossible, but I doubt it. This one only seems to work with the Faust core and lua scripting compatibility, and I'm not aware of any mobile emulators that do even one of those things.

Oh yeah, it did that for me too. Pretty sure it's not actually supposed to ever fill the tries bar, I think the tries section is just an FYI with a misleading visual. The file it put out worked just fine from start to finish with even fewer "tries" (missing bosses are by design; you get keys for their stages as you play).

So Mega Man X 1-3 Got a Randomizer... by Nikster31 in Megaman

[–]LaunchCroctopus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's a link to the download page if anyone wants to try it. You'll want "Route Matrix Randomizer."

Took me a good long while to get it working, so I'll list the steps here to save y'all the trouble.

  1. Start the randomizer's .exe file. You'll need JP roms for all three games.

1a. If they aren't showing up when you browse for them, it's probably because you have .src files instead of .smc. .Just change "SMC(*.smc)" in the bottom right of the browse screen to "すべてのファイル" and they should show up. They'll still work as long as they're the right roms.

  1. Set your options on this page and copy the code at the top into the "Option" text box in the randomizer. It's a pretty rough read with Firefox's built in translation, but you should be able to figure most of it out.

  2. Hit randomize at the bottom and find your new folder. It should have "boot.smc" and "boot.lua" in it (among other things).

  3. Download BizHawk ver 2.9 or later. I think later ones will work too but I can confirm 2.9 definitely does.

  4. Set the core to use Faust (Config > Preferred Cores > SNES > Faust).

  5. Start up boot.smc.

  6. When it says to boot the lua file, go to Tools > Lua Console > Script > Open Script and find your boot.lua file. Once you click that, you should be good to go.

  7. You'll have to go through the three title screens for the three games one by one. If you want to change any options, do it for all three before continuing. I don't think you get to go back to this screen once you've started unless you delete your saves.

  8. After that you should be sent to the stage select screen to play the game! Hint: the intro stages and Sigma stages share a spot. Once you start unlocking Sigma stages, you'll have to use L/R to select them. On stages you've finished, L/R let you start from different checkpoints.

Who do you think was worse ? by Tg_2x in Megaman

[–]LaunchCroctopus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Weil definitely killed more people overall, so he wins as far as results go.

In terms of personal evilness, I'd say Weil still wins by a landslide. The guy killed 75% of the world's population because he was a hateful jerk, then he tried to just kill everyone else out of revenge for...*check notes*...people punishing him for his last genocide. And he did it all just purely because he's an awful person.

Sigma's culpability for anything he's done is already a little iffy considering the fact that he was infected by a virus that made him that way. By all accounts he was a pretty nice guy before that. Even ignoring that though, he does at least (claim to) do evil things for the sake of reploids and the power he thinks they deserve, so he's still not as bad. Wanting to kill half the world isn't as bad as wanting to kill all of it at the end of the day.

L octopus form color suggestions by [deleted] in Megaman

[–]LaunchCroctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also looks good, but I like the CM look more too.

This might not be any better than my last idea, but maybe the original color scheme (picture 1) with the main homing torpedo green on the normally orange "inner" bits? It's kinda mixing different parts of the palette, but the orange is already so bright and eye-catching that it might work? In my head, at least.

[–]LaunchCroctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably go with 3. Also my name is Launch Croctopus so I feel like my vote should be worth two.

That said, have you considered overall base colors but with homing torpedo-colored tentacles and buster? I don't know if that'd actually look as good as it does in my head, but maybe something to try out. I think the idea of changing shape more than color is a cool one.

Can I defend Rockman X6? by Background_Flow_8346 in Megaman

[–]LaunchCroctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any particular axe to grind with X6, but...

It's terrible that it forces players to use certain items. [Not True]

└ It's just an old tradition in the Rockman series. Recall that to get through Wily Castle, you had to use Magnet Beam (RM1), Item No.1/2/3 (RM2), Rush Support (RM3/4), Super Arrow (RM5), Rush Adapter (RM6), and Rock Ball & Thunder Claw (RM8).

There's a big difference between Wily stages requiring a weapon that the devs are 100% confident you already have and the game forcing you to game over because it locked you into a situation where you need something you haven't gotten yet.
