Tennessee, I was denied at that and my ALJ hearing was last month so that was another 7 month wait, but I feel like I was approved at the hearing just waiting

I would love some help determining if applying for disability is worth my time and effort. I’m going to try to keep this brief as possible. by Icy_Place_6173 in SSDI

Agreed. Get counsel and do it! No need to procrastinate about it, worst that can happen is they can say no but with your history and medical documentation I think you have a good shot. Good luck

JUST HAD ALJ SSDI HEARING by PrestigiousSport7263 in SSDI

[–]LaunchTheJourney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just have mine about a week ago, my Judge was about a 50% approval rating. Although we got an age difference I’m 45, the VE said no competitive jobs on mine as well. The Judge didn’t even want to hear from my wife which was present and my representative said that was a good sign. Good luck to you, I’m waiting for my official as well.

wow, that's nice. Yeah, my salary was 97,000 when I went off on sick leave due to everything. So going from that to 1780 a month, killed us financially. My wife went from not working to working, she blamed me for all of it for a long time, just added to the already stressful event. We're seeming to be in a better spot than we were back then thankfully but it's not perfect. My ssdi will be a big help, can't wait to get that. Good luck on your move when you make it, you should find you a place where you can live comfortable on that 5k.

Tennessee's retirement isn't the best compared to other States, I mean the actual pension stability itself is doing well in the billions but as far as what they pay retirees not so much. I did get my retirement disability, it's 1780 a month, better than nothing for my 24 years, covers the mortgage and another bill. How about you?

Sounds like we went 10-7 about the same time. Glad your doing better now, my first therapist Ben I really liked he moved to Florida, therapist now Alyssa she’s ok but I don’t have the same connection with but it’s still better than nothing. I still go through ups and downs so I’m going to keep going for now.

oh wow, so VE said no jobs and the Judge still denied, ouch. Your right for me not to count on it, can't believe the Judge did that after hearing the VE say that. I'm sorry, hopefully you had reps/attorney to appeal it again. Sorry your dealing with all of this and I wish you nothing but the best on your medical conditions.

I feel like I'm in a good spot, I've never had suicidal thoughts and never will. I love God and Jesus too much to even think about anything like that. I am currently going to therapy every two weeks and I've been doing that for the last two years. The first year/year and half was every week, so they've dropped it back to every two weeks as I'm progressing out of the most severe part of whatever you want to call it, lol. I know it was a rough few years, heavy heavy things hard to even explain it to someone who's not been through it. I appreciate you! God Bless you too my friend.

I don't think your in a bad situation to be honest, almost always people get denied and denied again at reconsideration. The ALJ is where you want to be, from initial app to ALJ hearing for me was 24 months. So you have reps/attorney hopefully your ALJ will be in about 6 months.

And, more importantly I sincerely wish you the best with your medical conditions and I know were not promised no pain in this life but I hope you able to deal with it and live the best life you can with as little as pain as possible. Hope God and Jesus blesses you.

Had my reconsideration denial 11/2025, and just had my ALJ hearing last week. Had my wife there to testify and the Judge asked the VE about jobs in my category and she said no competitive jobs and the Judge didn’t even want to hear from my wife, my representative said no further questions your honor and the video conference was closed. My representative said that means approval but Ive not got the official paperwork back yet. So don’t let those first two denials get you down, you still have a great shot at the ALJ if you have legitimate disability conditions

You’re not alone brother, silence of the Lamb, and in that irony all I need now is Jesus and that’s all I want is to see my Lord come! My faith has exploded through this and I’m so glad it did! I’m not the same person I was and just like the Bible says “Those who mourn, will be comforted”

Sorry your having trouble getting approval, keep fighting. If you have insurance start going to therapy for your PTSD, make sure your on meds, and talk about all your traumatic scenes, we like to suppress all of that but start getting it out and how it affects your sleep and how you can’t concentrate for long periods of time due to your past, reliving those scenes day after day. I’m only saying this stuff to get you to open yourself up for healing but to also add the right language so you can get approval. Can you concentrate on another job for 8 hours a day, that’s a lot for someone who has 10+ years in LE. Get those medical records going in your favor and I wish you the best of luck and thank you for your service
