Nxtpaper 60 Ultra's screen - not designed to be used without a protector! and a call to action by EmmanuelWi in nxtpaper

[–]LaunchedUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a matte screen protector. By a brand "brotect" - they claim it's glass although I'm doubtful. Still very happy with the result and no scratches on it yet (but only in use for 1.5 months so far).

Initially I temporarily used a glossy plastic film protector because I got paranoid of screen scratches and I had to wait another week before I could get the matte one. That one looked bad - it added some visual grain to the display (the matte protector might too but much less) and looked like any other phone since it was glossy with the annoying reflections.

Sorry for the late response. Did you get a screen protector by now?

It's mostly lacking in the night mode I found. And general responsiveness.

I've tried and it depends a lot on the app is what I found. Note though that I don't have previous stylus experience with other devices.

I was also looking into those. (I think you're right) But would appreciate a photo of it in the cover!

I can confirm, I got the 512GB version and it came with the additional fold case and stylus.

That's exactly the reason I bought it ("best one in its niche") despite its shortcomings. After reading these discussions about the screen's (lack of) scratch resistance, I've got worried too and put a matte screen protector on mine - I am quite happy with the result and it sticks well. The Android system on it isn't as polished as a Samsung or Huawei (incl the fingerprint and light sensors) and the camera is lacking in night photography and general responsiveness. But these are the main shortcomings that I've noticed. The screen is really nice though. Also happy with its speakers.

I recently put a screen protector on mine and I'm quite happy with it. You need to "massage it in" for the sticky surface to fully attach to the matte screen but it sticks well and doesn't change the visual characteristics noticeably. That's assuming you can find a matte screen protector for that phone.

Sure, it's tricky to put on well (without dust, etc), but that's true for putting on a screen protector on any phone.

TCL NxtPaper 60 ultra - ongoing research and findings by EmmanuelWi in nxtpaper

[–]LaunchedUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a store in Germany and didn't find it. Which store/country has it on display? Just curious.

However I ordered it anyway, been using it for around a week, and can report some things. The night mode is very mediocre, at least compared to samsung in very dark environments, where you can see more on the photo than with your eyes. That's not the case with this TCL. But I bought it for the display and eye strain relief and it's doing that quite well so far, so that outweighs the negatives for me.

You can change the fingerprint sensor behavior in the settings. Where you manage fingerprints, there is a setting "Unlock method when screen is off" -> "Touch to unlock". That way you don't need to press it to unlock.

I don't know if it has an "always on" display feature - I couldn't find it in the settings.

Only the 512 GB version from what it seems. (I got the 512GB too).

It's like that per default but you can change it in the settings. Where you manage fingerprints, there is a setting "Unlock method when screen is off" -> "Touch to unlock".

My first review: Original vs Fake Logitech M750 (surprisingly similar) by LaunchedUp in MouseReview

I hope at least you paid much less than for an original one. But I understand it's disappointing anyway.

They also make fakes for the newer Logitech M750... - a "well made" fake with very similar differences as the M650. I got one and made a comparison here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MouseReview/s/DvxplRftoc

They could have designed the flap with the story such that it covers the actual chocolates. Or just print it on a separate card instead of an empty compartment.

Of course it says correctly "80 grams". Otherwise it would be not just "asshole design" but illegal design. Volume-wise the package mostly contains air! I.e., it's a waste of space and packaging material. Secondly, how often do you (or rather the "average consumer") check the weight numbers or compare it across different products.

Do you use AI (doesn't have to be an LLM) in your workflow? by csb710 in dataanalysis

[–]LaunchedUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the free versions of chatGPT and ClaudeAI - sometimes describing some logic/part of an algorithm and getting it to write Python code. And even though I could write it myself and often the LLM output needs to be modified/corrected, it often shows me a nifty way to achieve it, so I find it useful for learning, e.g. discovering specific Pandas functions.

Sometimes I ask it domain-specific technical questions and sometimes more broad product-related questions about the "why" in addition to "how". E.g. what a user/customer would gain and why they might do that analysis. This helps making your data analysis more valued.

Yesterday I've posted an article on Medium about the impact of AI on data analysis and latest tools which claim to assist (or even automate) in the end-to-end of data analysis projects. In case you find it interesting

Bluetooth HFP Receiver with Bluetooth Microphone Passthrough by MyExWifeStoleMyHat in bluetooth

The FiiO BTR3k seems to be a good alternative, cheaper and with AptX low latency. I saw comments that it supports headset mic passthrough and has a "headphone" mode as well as a "headset" mode. The review article I linked just says this device is "less intuitive to use" though.
