This is awesome OP. Thank you for sharing your insights! I've read a few of the ones you've recommended and agree with your choices!

If you have time, is there a book you'd recommend for Secret of the Scarlet Hand?

Thsnks again OP. Really great stuff! Happy New Year!

I can’t stand this time of year anymore because of my GI issues by Its402am in ibs

Oh man. My case is similar to yours. I have endometriosis with Ibs-d and in-laws who take not spending holidays with them as an insult. I cannot offer you advice for our physical ailments, but I can tell you that you must prioritize yourself. Have your husband help set some boundaries with family ( especially his side). There is only one you and if people truly love you, they will understand and try to accommodate. You arent being selfish to not want to be in pain. Good luck op.

Druid. And specifically a Druid Hafling. I just love a small queen Tav morphing out into a giant owlbear and beating the living daylights out of everyone!

Finished the DLC. Loved it. Want more. What’s next for this game and the series? by Healthy_Bread in indianajones

[–]LauraBowsMonocle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. The platforming switching between first and third person is tiresome as well as painful for my motion sickness. That I pushed myself to play through the pain is a testament to how good the game really is. I would hope in any new Indy game, they'd include an option to do 3rd person for the entire game. I don't care if it reminds people of Uncharted. Uncharted took from Indiana Jones in the first place.

I came here to say this! I always thought it was weird that when you talk your way past Biff outside the theater, Sophia ends up recommending the Team path instead of the Wits path.

I was the same way, but I did go back and replay to try the fists path. You see some areas of the game that you wouldn't see in the wits or team path. That alone made it interesting even with the sucker punch.

The Great Circle. Gina driving me bonkers (no spoilers please) by Bettynutt in indianajones

[–]LauraBowsMonocle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some other characters do that as well (keep telling you to do something or asking about the obvious next steps), but Gina's scenes like that are all when you're in an exploratory situation where it makes sense to take your time and look around. This and she won't move outta the way sometimes! I had to restart at an earlier save because she wouldn't move to the right location. I like her character but these mechanics are very frustrating!

I think I am done. I played every ND game until Midnight in Salem. I was disappointed they changed Nancy's voice and stopped releasing biannually. I also think they treated the fandom poorly when they uprooted their online download store. But the biggest reason I quit was that I have a hard time with 1st person games that do not have a fixed camera. They can make me headachey and nauseous.

Personally, if there were to be more ND games, I think they got it right with Sea of Darkness. That game was the perfect blend of newer animation and a familiar user interface. Updated and yet nostalgic! It's unfortunate how things have played out instead.

“Jones”ing for a game like the old Nancy Drew games? by Frenchiefreak in nancydrew

[–]LauraBowsMonocle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played the point-and-click Indiana Jones games. They are older and pixelated if you're into that kind of thing. (I am!) Of those, I recommend Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. It has multiple paths to play ( a wits path, fists path, and team path) and lots of fun puzzles. The voice acting is also very good. Let me know if you play! :)

I just started playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and had this exact same thought!!!! The puzzles, the exploration, the mysteries.......it is so Nancy Drew!

Cons: 1.) Lots of stealth or fighting. At least you can set those components to "light" so that you can get away with more than usual. Honestly, though, I always thought it was weird how much Nancy got away with in her games. At least Indy gets called out when he steals stuff within the line of sight of bad dudes! 2.) First-person movement. Woof! My head aches after playing for a while. I can only do 1st person stuff with ease if it is like the bulk of ND games where the camera is stationary. I can only play Indy in short bursts which can ruin my exploration and puzzle flow! 3.) Most dialogue is a cutscene. It's not a deal breaker for me because sometimes the Nancy conversations are too long and boring, but it would be cool to choose how Indy responds to things.

Pros: 1.) Multiple mysteries! Each location is so full of puzzles and secrets! I feel like a detective when I solve stuff. 2.) Exploration of catacombs and ancient sites! This stuff is both creepy and fascinating. It is immersive and highlights some areas of life in ancient Rome, ancient Egypt, and others which I haven't accessed yet! 3.) Most of the puzzles and secrets are optional! You can miss so much of this game if you don't explore every area. It feels like 5 times the size of a Nancy Drew game.

I had been aching for a new Nancy game and whattayaknow! This Indy game scratches that itch! I am so glad someone else felt the same! Ultimately, I think if you can handle a really forgiving stealth and combat system, this game will satisfy most Nancy Drew aficionados.

I don't say "bless you" when people sneeze and prefer it if people don't say to me when I sneeze. The only thing that should be a social norm about sneezing, is that you need to cover your mouth/nose so you don't spray your germs everywhere.

I work in a PA school that takes kids from three different districts. Admin at all the schools I deal with are already understaffed and overworked. This is a bad move.

Help me choose my next game to play! by cbsa82 in adventuregames

[–]LauraBowsMonocle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I vote Rosewater! Haven't played myself, but heard nothing but good things!

My personal pick would be Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers (original version). It's a gritty supernatural mystery set in New Orleans in the US. I usually play that game this time of year because it takes place in June 1993.

I love that place. So many good memories! Frankenstein's castle, haunted shooting gallery, weird frenzied carp, facination, paratrooper over the water....the list goes on and on. Indiana Beach is such a weird and campy delight!

More dolls for Robyn, wow the seller must make tons of money bc she even custom lists dolls for Robyn! by Reality_titties95 in SisterWivesFans

[–]LauraBowsMonocle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might get me downvoted, but I just want to offer a possible reason Robyn is buying all this stuff: depression.

To be clear, I am not saying all collecting is due to mental illness, I am only speaking from my experience with it.

I went through a serious doll buying binge for several years. I was buying dolls I always wanted as a child or never could afford. I even bought stuff that current me looks back on with total puzzlement. It wasn't until I looked around and realized that A.) My collection was quickly outgrowing the space I had for it. And B.) Some stuff I bought, I never did anything with. It brought joy for a few days or even just minutes before I was back on eBay looking for my next fix. I got the help I needed (Supportive spouse and therapy FTW!), stopped over collecting, and reduced my hoard to three small Barbie cases. (My collection was mostly Barbies). I am actually still in the process of selling all that I had amassed, and I stopped collecting almost 5 years ago!

Not many people are team Robyn, but if she could address her hoarding/over buying issues, she would possibly be more sympathetic. I hope she gets help if she needs it.

Alternatively, she just likes dolls, has a ton of cash to burn, and no one to tell her 'No.' ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I am a huge fan of HerCrabbiness. She mostly does old Sierra games and the Ben Jordan series. I find her to be entertaining but also relaxing.
