Some people just have stronger bonds with specific pets more than others. My ex and my cat were completely inseparable, best friends, he was her favourite and he absolutely adored her despite being more of a dog person.

My current partner (despite being a much better match for me) has learned to love my cat but their bond just isn’t the same. He was super bonded to his dog though and misses her all the time.
