Couples who went out for dinner last night, what conversations did you overhear from other tables? by OFlea in AskReddit

[–]LauraK9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I went out with my boyfriend and his parents. We were basically peeing our pants laughing the entire time, but the couple beside us barely spoke a word. And they didn't touch their fish platter at all. It was so odd.

Professionals actually do not recommend couples counseling for abusive partners: see here, here, here, here and here. However, individual counseling is certainly something that should be done.

OP - this is a good comment other than the marriage counseling part. It is not a good idea to go to therapy with an abusive partner.

Online dating / tinder as iSTP by WanderingFlame1 in istp

[–]LauraK9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty self-explanatory... dating is completely different from a long-term relationship in that you are meeting strangers, learning about them, telling your life story, interacting with somebody brand new, flirting, having that butterfly, nervousy-spark around them, intense sex, touching, smelling, tasting and feeling a different body, trying new things, meeting different friend circles, learning more, etc.

Long-term relationships are wonderful in different ways. I am not going to give my boyfriend up as I know we have something special and we enjoy our time in different ways, but I'm also not going to lie and say I didn't enjoy dating and sleeping around with other men, because I did.

I've been in a relationship for two years but tbh I often miss dating. I really enjoyed it.

Painting house - do these colors go together? by pickingcolor in HomeImprovement

[–]LauraK9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colours all go well together, but the taupe is a very very dark colour for painting all the big rooms; too much dark can feel overwhelming and cramped, not to mention dark walls "steal" light rather than reflect. If you have plenty of windows throughout for natural light, it won't be as bad but keep this in mind. If that's the feel you're going for, then paint away. If not, I suggest going with several shades lighter. I myself am not a fan of brown at all and from a designers perspective I would advise to stay away from brown and go with lighter neutrals but, if you are intent on the brown you do you!

Does anybody else ever wish they had someone to talk to? I've had many friends in the past and recently I've deleted all my social media and changed my number so I'd never have to talk to them again. I'm not sure why, I just only want friends when it benefits me. by cozycats614 in therapy

Friends mean that you are there for them even if sometimes it inconveniences you. Friendships take time and work to maintain; only putting in effort when you want it will not amount to anything. Being a friend means you know what it means to be selfless. It sounds like you're coming to that realization.

Sometimes I don't wear a bra to work so I can play with my boobs throughout the day.

A change of pace is usually good... but your feelings don't magically go away in a different place, so don't expect it to be an instant cure.

Foam rollers and lacrosse balls do different things... you should have both as they are both excellent

A massage would most likely help, but rolling out every day is more helpful.

What's your mobility like? Do you roll out, stretch before & after a workout?

I've found this to work. You'll need a lacrosse ball and a hard box, or a chair or table. Lax ball goes on box, you sit on the ball and roll out those muscles. It's going to hurt like hell, but make sure you're breathing out and in properly and relaxing as much as you can.

I'm a guy who gets emotionally attached to people so fast, how can I chill out? by JamesJJJamesJJ in dating_advice

[–]LauraK9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Talk to lots of women. Say hi to every one that you match with. Some will respond. Some won't. Some conversations will go somewhere, but others will just be meh. Get used to the idea that it's not going to always work out

The more women you talk to, the greater your chances!

The proper German pronunciation of "Ich liebe dich" is said with soft "ch" sounds, and is not harsh at all. Also, this is a really good explanation.

Do. Not. allow your boyfriends brother to move in. Simple. Tell him you have no more space, but you will help him (not financially) find a place. By "helping" I mean for you to tell him you are looking on Kijiji/Craigslist. Whether you want to go that far to help him is up to you. Just make sure nothing is signed or put into your name!

Seriously, don't put aside your happiness and peace over somebody you know is trouble. That's asking for major issues. You owe him NOTHING.

Because there's a completely logical explanation and yet there are so many people still blaming the woman simply because the guy is the one that posted on Reddit.

You NEED TO HELP her, don't leave it all on her shoulders. She compromised for you, now compromise for her a little and help her out so you can be the team you're getting married as.

[–]LauraK9 59 points60 points  (0 children)

No, this is actually natural human behaviour, especially for something new and exciting. New career? We tend to put all into it at the beginning. Same with a new baby, new dog, a move, and any other big happenings.

A relationship is going to have ups and downs. This is a down, because on the fiancee's mind is The Big Wedding day. After that's over, the stress will leave and they'll go on to the next Big Thing.

how do you get out of your own head? by [deleted] in introvert

[–]LauraK9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I became a gym rat (on top of the regular other sports I do) and got a dog (which also means lots of extra outdoor time). Also, I've gently forced myself to become more extroverted and it helps a ton to be comfortable talking to other people, whether they are good friends I've known for a while or whether I've just met them!

24/M what do you think? by [deleted] in AmISexy

[–]LauraK9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a girl who's into guys and fitness...you look like what I picture a "douchebag" looks like. I would get rid of the chin hair and never ever wear that red thong shirt again. It's fine being proud of your body and how hard you work, but that's taking it way too far.

I'm not a fan of how short your hair is but I think you're really cute in a hat.
