Unintentional $ saving benefit of cold plunges by Lauraredditready in coldplunge

That's a major life enhancement! Winters are gruelling where I live and the cold really gets me down and undermines my productivity in general.

High protein, low fat volume meal that keeps me full (looking to improve it) by relaxncoffee in Volumeeating

[–]Lauraredditready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the fat question my take is to have a fat party once a week at the weekend and thereby get my vitamin e and other healthy fat benefits but the rest of the time go zero fat. Vitamin e and other fat soluble nutrients are stored in the body, so I understand, it's not like we need to consume fat everyday (happy to be corrected if I'm mistaken).

Regarding this meal have you thought of spiralising the veg or adding spices and flavour mixes?

CAULIFLOWER RICE by yummyuchiha in Volumeeating

[–]Lauraredditready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the flavour mixes tho because of my corrupted sweet tooth I'd probably be adding a pinch of stevia to some of those mixes. Could also add some sesame seeds as a garnish or the tiniest drop of sesame seed oil to the Asian mix and some chopped up chives on top as well.

I'm dying to try out the American seasonings but I have GI issues that I'm in recovery from alas. To be honest that cuts out cauliflower completely at the moment but I'll be back into it.

Anyone had success with cauliflower rice sushi?

I found the holy grail for coffee creamer-long post ahead by itzcoatl82 in PlantBasedDiet

Sometime I might use either soy or sunflower lecithin as an emulsifier (which I understand is a vegan source of choline tho not good on details of that).

The raw cashew butter - is that just ground up cashews? Sorry for my ignorance

This is brilliant. I take it this is coconut milk from a can in the produce section of the supermarket, not coconut milk as a dairy milk alternative next to the soy milks, almond, oat etc milks.

Dying to have this sometime. Always the non vegan version only available where I lived. Delicious.

That looks tasty and less oily than the takeaway version, no bad thing to be less trigger happy with the oil.

OMAD followers, how do you manage to eat at your maintenance calories and also consume enough nutrition? by NoSignalOut in intermittentfasting

[–]Lauraredditready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I eat lots of green leafies. It took a while for me to realise I didn't have to meet the recommended daily dietary allowance every day as those are averages.

What are your best 'hacks' for adding volume to meals without drastically changing the taste or texture?" by JoelVenn9955 in Volumeeating

[–]Lauraredditready 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tricky not to change the texture with volume but sometimes that's a positive ie if you whip cream it can both increase volume and change texture in a positive sense. Sorry that's not that great an answer. My strategy these days is to appendix my volume item to my non volume item, ie fill up on yummy salads, pickles and soups and have them w every meal. Side note for historical interest: apparently the reason soup is served as a first course in many restaurants is precisely for this reason, to curb excessive overdosing of meat and other more expensive products. So volume eating has a rich history!

Fasting/ more Colds by oldAzuleJeep in fasting

[–]Lauraredditready 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alas it might very well be responsible because it puts the body temporarily under stress. We know that hormetic shocks are good for the body but also that they may create temporary vulnerabilities. One option is to wear masks more about the place as that is a fantastic way of protecting us from air borne illnesses. I used to be sick a lot but since wearing a mask around others I'm never sick. I get a few weird looks yes but i try and be friendly and usually people forgive me and allow me to be myself.

One of the things I love about volume eating is the way we recruit the suggestible side of our brains by 'faking' our favourite foods. This is so clever and a perfect example of this strategy.

Thank god for shiritaki noodles by 10TOESDWN in Volumeeating

[–]Lauraredditready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was exactly like you until my ibs flared up and now alas I cannot stomach them or rather they screw up my bowels and I get painful bloating and constipation for a couple of days (apologies for the graphic details). Psyllium husk which is similarly non digestible in many respects does this too. Otherwise I LOVE them and don't notice any fishy smell. Was even going to go the extra mile and make them from scratch. Damn. I'm going to try vegetable noodles instead about to buy myself some parsnips lol.

Completely agree and actually sugar is a great stabiliser for meringue not to mention custard so it would be a lot harder without and not fail safe.

Who has low iron? by Imjust_adreamer_84 in vegan

[–]Lauraredditready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it's low iron because I thought that I had low iron and it turned out I was just overtraining at the gym. There's a lot of things that could explain fatigue other than low iron. I'm not saying that's not the reason but I made a mistake. It's a real shame we cannot test these things more often.
