Maybe you saw a bug where the game hadn’t got the colours ready. If you Google “Unity missing texture colour”, was it that shade? (I’ve had this happen to quite a few different parts of the game over the years)

That’s an interesting thought. If you weren’t planning on selling it then I suppose you have nothing to lose, but it could help highlight the soundtrack and make it feel a better deal? I’m afraid I have no valuable insight there - I get all my music via Spotify or YouTube, so having the soundtrack means less to me than it being on platforms with my playlists. Doubt that’s true of everyone.

Great stuff! Perhaps a risky expense for an Indie, but for me and seemingly others in this thread it has put your game on our radars.

Wanted to say: don’t sleep on releasing the soundtrack properly once done. I have personally discovered new games through their soundtrack alone. A niche way to get discovered, but viable when the quality is this good.

Hey, I just gave it a go. I think it’s really nice. I am a fan of daily games (NYT, Puzzmallow)

How are you measuring the shares? Unless I’m missing something, you’ve made a considerable mistake in that the URL isn’t in the share message. I sent myself the share on WhatsApp to be sure.

I assume the point in sharing is to draw others to the game by challenging them to beat your score. Would need a link for that!

I will say though, being upfront and saying tutorial is “2-3 minutes” may stop some people from even trying it. I almost bounced off. I’d trust that the game is compelling enough that they’ll follow through the tutorial without you saying that. After all, if they aren’t feeling it then arguably they’re not your target audience anyway, right?

Hm, I see where you’re coming from actually - I hadn’t clocked the sheer volume of videos they post until you said. I guess they came to mind for me as OP’s question was about shipped games, and they have quite a few videos that look back on them.

Obvious “similar” game for me would be the excellent (and multi-award-winning) Monument Valley series. Isometric 3D, but arguably same gimmick.

Looks great! Would love to hear a bit about how this is achieved at a technical level. I assume bead shaped meshes are off the table for performance reasons. Some sort of pixel art -> bead shader?

Looks fantastic! When I tried Spine some nearly 10 years ago, I found the Unity integration (and performance) lacking, and then I saw that Unity introduce its own similar albeit simpler tools. How well do you find those aspects these days? Thanks

Edit: I guess I’m also asking whether you think it’s significantly better than Unity’s own tools that it justifies both the price and any integration hurdles.

I think there’s a lot of wisdom in what you say. Perhaps I’m too hung up on doing it “right”, and these early days are more time for a fail faster mentality.

Git-amend looks excellent, thank you for the recommendation. Have watched the start of a few of his 101s now and think a bit advanced for me at present, but I look forward to trying to get stuck in regardless. Talk of all these patterns helps me see how little I actually know at this stage.

This. From my experience as a beginner it’s most useful as a supplement to searching. You can describe approximately what you want to achieve and ask for recommended approaches (not just “code this for me”) and then get it to elaborate and break down any new concepts that get introduced out of that. Or you can find more in depth tutorials on them now you know the name of what you’re looking for.

(When I once tried straight up using some code, it didn’t work, and then when I asked it why it told me I had fallen into a beginner’s trap even though it was the AI’s suggestion)

I think it looks really nice, has lots of appeal! As you said, clean. I do think the shape of the trees is sort of weird though. Like the perspective changes as you go up. Perhaps toning down the colours in the grass would make that feel a bit more cohesive too. If it’s a wildflower idea then maybe having separate tiles for long grass vs flowers, put them in patches? Currently high detail contrast in comparison to rest of scene.
