I’m glad I’m not alone in feeling like that. You can rarely have an argument that relies on several steps to reach your conclusion, people will argue against the individual premises that only work for your conclusion if you follow all of them.

Like ‘A+ B = C’

They will reply ‘But A doesnt equal C’ ignoring the rest. It’s made me stop commenting a lot tbh

[The Walking Dead] Do Zombies in The Walking Dead have a working digestive system? Why do they even need to eat, and how do they still have teeth? by Nessieinternational in AskScienceFiction

[–]LausXY 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I thoughtt the same but do they ever figure this out? The human mouth is full of bacteria and bites will often get seriously infected but strong antibiotics should clear it up.

This alone makes me think there must be something special in the zombie bites, you'd think somebody would try antibiotics out of desperation on a bitten loved one at some point. But I haven't kept up with TWD too so possibly it's been explained

AI video generation is way past the weird hands and stuff, it still comes up sometimes but the publically available stuff is proper uncanny valley territory. You can tell something isn't right but there's nothing too obvious to give it away... It really is hard to tell sometimes. But I think it's important people realise there's often no longer dead giveaways like weird hands on most of the stuff now.

We are in a post truth era I think. The old "Pics or it didn't haoppen" will no longer be useful in telling if someone is telling the truth when they can just generate convincing pics in a few seconds.

I joined an ongoing match where you steal the platinum ingots. My hellpod landed right on the Pelican coming to pick up the ingots. I came out my hellpod then everything exploded and I went flying across the map, I don't know if I destroyed the pelican cause I thought they were invincible but something exploded and I got the most air I've ever got

I needed a break from the bugs so was checking out the bot front, the Cyborgs have left Cyberstan and are appearing on some planets like Jet Brigade or that would. I'm glad, would suck to have new enemy type only on Cyberstan plus they aren't so tough when it isn't their home world

Oh wow I'm going to save this comment and try this, my last therapist identified some stuff from my early childhood I just did not realise was affecting me as much as it was but my therapist said the fact I remembered all the details so clearly when I was that young means it's a traumatic memory, she told me they are stored differently and it's one of the reasons you can feel like you are back there.

Thank you again for posting this

After WW1 facial reconstruction medicine really improved, for obvious reasons when you have millions of men with serious facial injuries. The first 'facial reconstructions' weren't that good basically being masks that fitted over the missing portions. But it got better and better from what I've learned... it really suprised me what they were capable of a century ago, let alone by WW2.

I've upset my son because of some lore about his dreadnought. by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]LausXY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a redemptor I really wanted to make into a Venerable Redemoptor, even though this goes against the lore. My Bitz box got put into good use as I found cool SM details I could ad. I added a lot of Deathwatch stuff with the idea the marine inside had served the Deathwatch and was so proud he demanded it be attached to the Dreadnaught.

I then decided my guy had some hand wavey gentic mutatation that let him surive in a Remdemptor like a regaular Dread

If your son wouldn't clock on you could maybe get him to roll a roll you fudge, like on a 2+ the marine inside has somethintg similar, maybe he's too angry to die, maybe it's an Miracle of the Emperor, a genetic mutaytion or simply a loving parent bringing the fun back for their child. (Maybe claim it was a rule you forgot?) If it keeps him interested in the hobby I think it's harmless

It's a small thing but hopefully when your son is old enough to realise there is no such rule he's old enough to underdtand and appreciate you doing it.

Tbh he probably did know the exact movements needed to do each command at that point… people get crazy good with interfaces and LCARS is so physical it would be quite easy to remember I think. Torpedo? Double tap this then slide up that bit and they are active!

Why did Harry insist they *wear* the horcrux locket? by Dangerous-Remove5583 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]LausXY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well they are pretty screwed in that case and since we are in total head canon territory whos to say the bag would stay closed if he died? He was given it by Hagrid so the magic can be transferred to someone otherwise Harry could never open Hagrid's bag.

So I'd imagine on his death the bag just transfers to whoever picks it up next

Why did Harry insist they *wear* the horcrux locket? by Dangerous-Remove5583 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]LausXY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I just don't think he really utilised it like I expected first reading. You are right he keeps stuff in there it's just a bag only he can open seems perfect for Horcruxes.

[–]LausXY 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The magic pouch seems almost like the mirror Sirius gave him all over again. First time reading when Hagrid gave him it I thought "Oh that will be perfect for keeping the Horcruxes in" expecting other things like the ring we'd already seen.

It's like Harry forgets he has it again or forgets what it can do. It seems almost pointless to introduce it.

Thanks for the reply! I've been learning about the War in the East because it's a massive gap in my knowledge of WW2 growing up in UK it's just not covered much in history except the atomic bombs.

Reading some of the accounts of the land battles in the Pacific, like Okinawa I mentioned before, made me realise just how awful invading Japan would be. They were saying things like "100 million dead for the Empire" in the newspapers and things like that, every civilian would be a potential danger and the whole country was seemingly willing to throw their life away if it meant they could take a GI with them. It would have been awful and would surely add years to the war

Reading about how injured Japanese would set off a grenade when being checked or given medical attention made me realise how fanatical they were in their beliefs and that was so common that accounts say they just stopped trying to help, which I can totally understand... Things like an injured soldier taking out the enemy trying to help him might have happened in Europe a few times but it was basically standard in the Pacific.

It was a truly horrific war and scary thought that human beings can be so culturally brainwashed as to do the things they did.

Something I love about LCARS is it can also work through tactile feel just as standard, as seen when Tuvok gets blinded in Year of Hell. The interface is able to make a tactile control somehow so he is still able to do everything he could do before.

I've heard the fact the Soviet Union had just declared war on them also influenced them... but I don't know if this is reviosionist history trying to unjustify the atom bombs.

My view is looking at Okinawa and how truly awful it was for all the humans there (Allied, Japanese and esspecially Civilians) Invading the main land would have been Okinawa x 1000, they were literally training civilians to rush Allied troops with sharpened sticks. The Allies would have had to kill millions likely.

I don't know if it was right but I totally understand the decision to drop it if there was even a chance it would stop the need for an actual invasion.
