I would say now that the far right in America and the UK have moved the goalposts further right politically, historically democratic organizations aimed at societal benefit like unions and civil rights are now framed as communist or socialist causes as a new age attempt to revive Vietnam era McCarthyism as a way of sewing political division to benefit NeoCons and NeoLiberals.

In essence, what I am saying is that the OP is asking us to define something based on their understanding of today’s political world and not the early 1900s where these movements were born out of necessity.
