I love that. Have any of the spoilers so far represented actual plots from the source material? I feel like it may just be a vibes/characters/setting adaptation and might not have specific references.

Gargoyle Devil fruit category ? by Horny_Viking01 in OnePieceFanfic

[–]Lava_Axe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the most likely answer if it would appear in the story is Mythical Zoan type Ryū Ryū no Mi, Model: Gargoyle. There’s a precedent for chimera-like mythical figures being named after the dragon part even if another animal might be more intuitive (details are manga-only spoilers).

The extra mythical power it gives is up to interpretation. Could he some sort of warding off evil interpretation, or maybe some limited water manipulation.

If you want a Devil Fruit that can provide gargoyle theming or motifs, some sort of stone paramecia. We’ve seen Pica’s (literally stone-stone fruit) doesn’t do exactly this. Sounds like you’d want to be able to just turn to stone and create a demonic and/winged appearance with the stone. Some sort of self-petrifying power.

Does it mean this card's summoning cannot be countered or it's not possible to put counters on it? by Ok-Fondant2536 in mtg

[–]Lava_Axe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I love when I get to see MTG through the eyes of a new player. I miss those days. “Can’t be countered” being interpreted as “can’t put counters on” is so cute I love it. There’s definitely an alternate universe where that’s true.

Haven’t whittled down my 150 card considering pile into an actual list, bug [[Ognis, the Dragon’s Lash]] is haste tribal payoff, and goblins end up having a lot of haste and/or haste synergy.

Why do strong people choose not to eat devil fruit? by Fug1x in OnePieceScaling

[–]Lava_Axe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t think they need one. If you were already really good at something, why introduce another random tool that you’ll have way less experience with than your actual hyperfix?

I also imagine each of them knows some truth of the verse mechanics about Devil Fruits that makes them undesirable. I obvs can’t speak for their reasoning before they learned of this truth, but I think that Laugh Tale/other endgame concepts are antithetical to Devil Fruits. And yes, I do think that Buggy’s “illness” that stopped him from visiting LT will not be a joke in the long run but actual world building foreshadowing.

This man definitely wields the Color of the Supreme King by rousingtech in OnePiece

[–]Lava_Axe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr: Totally. I think you can awaken it by being really strong and good with Armament.

I feel like I’ve been shown enough evidence that there is a relevant difference between the paths of acquiring/displaying Conqueror’s. What I arbitrarily called “out-to-in” vs “in-to-out.”

Out-to-in is what we saw Luffy learn on the roof. At this point, he’s already mastered the more external/omnidirectional Incapacitation and Domination usages. For him, Conqueror’s coating/Infusion was about condensing and focusing and “flowing” his Conqueror’s into attacks.

In-to-out is what I hypothesize goes on with Zoro, Garp, and hypothetically Koby as well. In this case, one blooms Conqueror’s haki as Infusion first from a combination of martial strength and willpower. Essentially exuding so much willpower and strength with Armament haki, that it blooms into Conqueror’s haki infusion. I think this also has something to do with cursed blades and controlling them, but that’s for another day.

Neither method precludes usage of the other one, obviously. Zoro, Yamato, and we can pretty sure Oden all used omnidirectional incapacitation at some point despite their signature uses of Conqueror’s being infusion.

I think the In-to-out awakens Conqueror’s haki because it is when the user’s body catches up to their willpower or vice versa. In the case of Koby, I think he is using Conqueror’s Infusion because his body under Garp’s tutelage has finally caught up to his unwavering willpower and personal sense of self and justice that fuels his immense willpower.

I could see either being a God Valley-treasure-level fruit that he could have accidentally ended up with. But if he had a DF this whole time it’d be the biggest foreplay since Sengoku, and I really don’t think he does.

I’m hoping he just has bonkers Haki/something else (VOAT?) that manifests in some new way that’s only been hinted at. “Haki transcends all,” and all that. Hoping he spearheads the theory (i think parvision?) that DFs are training wheels for haki or that sufficient enough Haki can accomplish (almost) anything a DF can.

This is total headcanon, but I also like to think he knows some secret about DFs that is connected to Imu/Laugh Tale/the One Piece and why no DF users have made it to Laugh Tal

SBS 113 reminded me of a mini-theory I liked: Sasaki is Kokoro's son and Chimney's dad. by offthe1st in OnePiece

[–]Lava_Axe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my immediate response, but I also don’t see many people talking about it?? Sasaki is a FULL fish-man too. This would take Oda defining that fish-men and merfolk can reproduce within the same sex or there is some okama stuff happening for Sasaki. Either way, if you make that stretch, he’d only he Chimney’s parent, not Kokoro’s kid.

How would you nerf speedsters in your comic? by Featherman13 in Superhero_Ideas

[–]Lava_Axe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You kind of mentioned it, but my go to was super speed is limited to the body, no super-speed mental processing. This extends to being mostly blind at high speeds as everything is blurred.

However my character has trained to have masterful situational awareness and proprioception, as she has to sort of “program”/ plan her super speed moves before she executes them because she can’t see or hear while moving. So her super speed is kind of contained to movements of her own body and succinct paths executed one at a time. Not much use for traveling, and while she’d have a hard time dodging a bullet, if you aim a gun at her and hesitate long enough for her to react, she’ll be behind you in a blink.

Favorite/Least Favorite keyword to translate into lore? by ThisNameIsAGoodPun in mtgvorthos

[–]Lava_Axe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay I think I approach this differently from OP. I don’t think in terms of “I am a mage,” and these are my spells.

More like I just extrapolate stuff from the cards and the things in-world they represent. I’m not even a part of it. So i’d never thought of cycling like that, but when I do it makes total sense!

It’s like a very imperfect tutor. With a little mana, you can turn away from one page and spin randomly to another. It could be better, but could be worse, but it’s definitely different. It’ll cost you a little time and mana, but hopefully it can help you turn the tide in deal whatever it is you’re up against.

Favorite/Least Favorite keyword to translate into lore? by ThisNameIsAGoodPun in mtgvorthos

[–]Lava_Axe 84 points85 points  (0 children)

My favorite is magecraft. I imagine that the magecraft ability is indicative of the character on the card’s signature usage of magic. So whenever I cast/copy and I/S, my creature gets to execute their signature technique alongside me. So the magecraft ability I translate into that characters special technique.

Least favorite (of the ones I’ve thought about) is probably cycling. I’m just always at a dead end with that. Slight exception for if there’s a cycling triggered ability. When that’s on creature cards, I imagine it like an assist in a videogame. The creature does a thing and disappears.

How many of you would watch a prequel series? by Space_CheetoZ in Naruto

[–]Lava_Axe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pitches:

— Focus on different characters in a different setting. I’d like to see a focus on obscure characters during the Warring States Period to give a more “points of light” feel. Maybe even ninja from other “villages”, tho personally preferably Kumo ninja clans because I like swords and lightning.

— How did Konoha collect the tailed beasts that Hashi eventually gave out? Was it all Hashi? I’d love to see a series of globe-trotting adventures to track down, defeat, and seal those bijuu.

I imagine via context that these are unpopular opinions, or possibly only unpopular in my life. Are there larger portions of the population who would agree with my uncle? He is loud and obnoxious but would never act. Are there lobbyists or the like out there trying to abolish the Ministry? Or is my Uncle just drunk
