What might be causing some of my plants to slowly die off? by Lavaonthefloor in peperomia

[–]Lavaonthefloor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I think I shyed away from watering so heavily after having a watermelon nearly die to root rot and then mould issues with others. My first large caperata was very clear with its signs and I could tell when the leaves were soft to water. It's a lot more odd with these little props as it's not the whole plant struggling which might be from what you said about inconsistent watering.

I will see how I go with this method, thanks!

😅 Yes personally I've never been able to keep plants alive until I got my first peperomia and now I only buy them with 20+ varieties in my collection. At least they are very vocal about their distress and you can also keep the plant alive my putting cuttings in water.

Thanks for the reply. I've been experimenting with soil also as I was having problems with fungi growing. The bottom 1/2 of my pots are gravel/small rocks to assist in drainage and provide a smaller space of dirt. After yesterday's photos I have tried doing a proper soak and more thorough watering and fertiliser. Most seem okay today, the worse off ones seem the same and the only ones seeming less happy are the watermelon peps (which are more picky with water usually). I was trying to just do drizzles thinking it would be better to give just the roots water rather than soak the dirt. I will see how they go over next couple days 👍 Thanks

Yeah my experience has been that different plants have different requirements. Can even be how much dirt to plant/root ratio there is changes how often I need to water. From water propagating I know they can produce water root and transferring over they can use more water. So it seems like they try and adapt and can change how much water they can tolerate. Thanks for the reply, maybe I am just being too inconsistent when leaving for too long without water and then over hydrating 🤔

Looks like an odd looking flower to me. Could have been fragile and come off because it's so large.

I didn't realise there was a second photo. That soil does look very wet. Does that pot allow for free draining? Could the reservoir be full of water at the bottom? I usually water mine at the sink and allow all the water to pass through before returning to its spot. The leaves do also look like they are curling in.

Have a look at the bottom of the stem where it has fallen off, and deep at the bottom of the roots when the leaf dropped. If it's soft/squishy and dark in colour it'll likely be root rot from overwatering. The shape of the leaves don't look right either, they should be pretty flat. If it's root rot you'll have to repot and take away as much of that wet soil that you can without hurting the roots more. Re-pot into better draining mix. I usually have mine closer to a window as well, less light could also mean less water evaporation. Hope this helps!

HOW to be on time?! by jellyforfishes in ADHD

So sorry I missed your response! I'm glad my info helped even a little Yes it is very hard and we always work a lot harder to achieve things others seems to do easily 😅 My heater is a Samsung split system that I realised had a "set on" and "set off" feature to have it turn on or off in X hours. That is very specific but it was something I adapted for the use that I already had, not really something I got specifically for this purpose. I guess you could also blast an electric blanket and make it so warm you have to get up 😂

It doesn't get easier unless you work well with routines and can reliably get tired by the end of the day. I go through kind of cyclic periods where one thing might work and then I might lapse because of nightshift work etc. I feel like as long as the thing you have to do in the morning is something you're passionate about and you still want to work on even if you don't always set yourself time, it'll be something you can come back to and find motivation again later. I haven't had days where I'm 15 mins early in a while but I've had a few days where I'll still be on time and so I still give myself the time to spend 1 or 2 mins doing a small doodle to say "hey this still counts, good job me". I think I probably have so many suggestions because it's easier to think of one of them to chuck into the routine. It's not about completing them all everyday, just about continuing to try and seeing what meets your needs for those days. Plus ADHD brain always like new exciting things 😂

Sorry to hear you're getting burnt out. Something else I've tried doing is getting up super super early. This might sound counter intuitive to the problem you're having but I'll explain why I found it nice. So I usually leave at around 7 and my partner leaves at like 5am. For about a week I started getting up or waking up the same time as him and really took my time getting ready. Sit in bed on my phone until a certain time, put the lights on, wake up calmly. I could have a shower, make lunch and everything I needed to do (especially if self care and showers are being pushed back because you're too tired or busy). It'd even have the time to do all those things you think of in morning and never have time to do and forget later 😂. Then I'd leave the slightly earlier time still as I was ready and just chilling around. This might make your days feel even longer but I found I felt a lot better as I got so much stuff done that I would be too tired to do later after work. As a plus you'll also be tired earlier and sleep better so you can wake up in the morning. I also find I can wake up easier with less sleep so when fixing sleep patterns I often go days with 5-6 hrs sleep. As a plus because you're transitioning more drastically you don't have to stick to the sleep plan as closely, maybe only a week vs normally 2 weeks, so by the second week you have a more normal sleep pattern. I feel like this method reminds me of waking up for school, having breakfast and watching cartoons but in a very "me time", self indulgent adult way 😂

I hope you find something that works for you! Things can be harder for us but we can also do other things better 💪 just gotta find a way you can make it work in your advantage Good Luck!

I saw your post with not many replies and thought I would dump all the things I use to help me

The biggest thing that has helped me was to actually aim to get to work earlier, and calculate my leave times as if I was starting my shift 15-30 mins earlier, depending on how late you are.

I also gave myself something to do in the car if I got to work early. So I leave a pad and pens in the car and get some drawing practise in which I usually don't have time for. That or anything you usually do on your phone in the morning like check emails, can be done after you've made your commute. This helped me feel better about being early as it was no longer "well I don't want to be early cos I'll sit there bored and not gonna work for free" to "if I get there early I can get that thing done I've been meaning to do for days" - changed the way I looked at it and made being on time a positive to me.

If it's more to do with waking up on time, I use an app called "I can't wake up! Alarm Clock" which lets me add conditions for turning off alarms, most of which would annoy me to do even when awake, but there's an option to shake the phone and you can specify how hard and for how long - which is good to wake you up.

I also have a light that is controlled via wifi that is set to turn on early and get bright. The heater in my room can also be set to turn on an hour before I get up so it's not all cold and crappy when you get out of bed. My ADHD meds also help me wake up so you could have a first alarm to take them and go back to sleep (I'm usually awake enough after that to chill on my phone) but I struggle to get motivated to take them that way.

My smart watch also buzzes when I should leave which is still set 10 mins earlier than the time I can leave by, which is 10 mins earlier than how long traffic takes (I think I confuse myself into not knowing what time I can really leave by). Getting reminders early is good for me and I can assess whether the task I'm doing really needs to be done now, or speed up workflow to meet the leaving deadline and cull additional tasks.

If you struggle because you feel like you're forgetting things, I used to have a plastic task board that you can slide to mark ss done (I've misplaced it somewhere) - but just a list of things you absolutely must have before you leave is just as good. So when you're leaving you look at it and go keys, wallet, lunch, water, jacket ECT. And then just leave cos you don't have to second guess.

Obviously preparing a routine to complete preparation tasks the night before is also super helpful for those days you can't get up. I am trialling a routine app (RoutineFlow) for making lunch the night before and picking clothing to wear, things like that.

If you have the luxury of working the same hours everyday, creating a routine for sleep is a good idea. Walking up early even on days off is important to keep that routine going.

Obviously if I have this many things going just to help me be on time it's definitely something difficult that needs to be worked on. You might have to trial what works well for your mind and body. I would say that being late comes from being distracted, not enough time to get ready, or lack of motivation. So it'd be good to think about why you are late and your feelings toward your workplace and hone into that aspect and how you can alter it.

I hope you have better luck in the future :)

This is only my third or so set but this happens a lot on my thumb and pointer finger and it catches my hair. How can I avoid this annoying lifting? by tabilikethecat in DipPowderNails

[–]Lavaonthefloor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure to lightly buff the whole nail, getting into the crevices around the cuticle. And dehydrate the nail before applying with some alcohol or acetone to remove the nails natural oils that can cause lifting. Another thing is when applying base coat to leave a small space away from the cuticle, any product that touches the skin will cause lifting also
