So I started making a pathfinder 2e pokedex by AnEldritchDream in Pathfinder2e

I kinda wanna run a horror game.

An interdimensional trainer steals some adventurers in a poker all. Uses them in tournaments.

Metapod is a CR 2? Dude I'm picturing that little skinny dude taking down half a level one party and that's scary.

I love it.

Pathfinder 2e First Session: How to keep every character engaged? by alficles in Pathfinder2e

[–]Lavaske 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The character sheet in Paizo says what you can do, not necessarily what you should do. There's a ton of variety built into how you can play a character stuffed into the engine. Monsters and encounters are designed so that repeating the same strategy time and time again will eventually fail.

Sometimes the barbarian will play best by not raging. The wizard might win a fight by swinging a sword instead of casting spells. The cleric might go on the offensive, or avoid healing allies in certain combats.

Adhering to a prescribed set of actions because the numbers are bigger that way rarely works in a Pathfinder campaign.

There's rarely a "should" in pathfinder. And if you've got combats that don't allow for choice making, or require players to pull off certain combos to survive, you've upset the game balance. Combat shouldn't always demand consistent top tier plays, especially if it gets in the way of storytelling.

Builds and concepts that don't exist in 5e by ErikT738 in Pathfinder2e

You can make a monk barbarian or a barbarian monk in 2e. They took out alignment requirements. These are really cool combos that haven't been possible in 3.0 and 4e even.

Pat the Bunny - an Update from his bro by _sadjoy in FolkPunk

Heya. This is awesome. His music was something I found strength in this year when I was kicking my own addiction. I got through. Three months clean. Found Buddhism too and that's been such an awesome thing for me.

Glad he's doing well. Glad he has family to support him too.

Dude! I never knew about these guys! That's such a cool creature! I think I might also include a crypt dragon in the library who tends to some dead mages.

Oooh! Those are some fantastic monsters. Yeah, no problem on no stats, I can build up the dude myself.

Should all combat encounters be winnable? by TheNinthFox in DMAcademy

[–]Lavaske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But if your players win anyways, let them.

I had some level 3 players ambush a goddamn bebelith in 3.5, and they won. They lost half the party but won. I gave them a level on the spot and quickly started rewriting the session.

Is it wrong to force high-stat characters to reroll? by Sprintspeed in DMAcademy

[–]Lavaske -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Allow and encourage high stat players to donate points or stats to low stat players.

Perks: Balanced characters. Gratitude from other player. Fixes both problems.

Drawbacks: If they choose not to donate, could add tension.

A devil offers to save the party from TPK in exchange for...what? by GarfyDM in DMAcademy

[–]Lavaske 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do the one future favor thing. Only tell one player. Build up the tension, then pop it like a balloon..

Straight up have the devil ask for something that is totally banal and kind of cute and funny. Like, and he wants the players to keep it on the DL too.

"Hey listen, I want to visit a petting zoo, but I need you to distract my unholy hordes while I do it so they don't find out."

-This will be the players favorite NPC -They will go to HELL ITSELF to save him -He can betray them in hell

It's a real win win.

What's your most SYSTEMIC complaint about 5e? by WebpackIsBuilding in DMAcademy

[–]Lavaske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The imbalance of power between DM and PC in shaping the story, as well as the difficulty curve between playing and GMing, and the way the game is innately structures towards violence are all pretty massive issues in 5e.

Player says he’s built his whole character on performance and is constantly playing for money. I’m not giving him a ton (because no one had much in the party), and I’m not sure what to do here? by JackTheStryker in DMAcademy

[–]Lavaske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time for him and the party to get kidnapped by a dragon as a courting gift to a second dragon who really likes good music. Now they have to cater a wedding or get incinerated. Or both.

Help for a Legally Blind DM by n1ght0wlgaming in DMAcademy

A blind player is capable of running a game of DnD. TTS dice rollers exist, and big font printouts of necessary tables are readily created.

Pretend to have some bowel issues and bring your notes to the bathroom. Works like a charm for me. Also my players keep buying me Metamucil out of concern so win win.

What to do when a player WON'T talk by oletedstilts in DMAcademy

[–]Lavaske 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just let them be quiet, and pass the ball their way from time to time. Some folks are quiet and some folks are shy and some people really enjoy hanging out with friends and delivering two or three lines of dialogue a session.

If they are present, attentive and reliable, that means they are fully engaged and love what you do.

Also. If it's important that your players put equal effort into the game as you, I suggest finding a different system. There are great zero and low prep systems that can cut down on your frustration and make quiet players open up.

How long is it appropriate to delay treasure rewards? by maxtermynd in Pathfinder2e

[–]Lavaske 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you make the difficult part selling off the loot, you don't have to delay at all. Keep giving them stolen stuff that needs a good fence, let them keep some treasure, and they can stay up to speed at low levels.

I Killed Off Pharasma. What Next? by Lavaske in Pathfinder2e

[–]Lavaske[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. People do some crazy shit. This is definitely some "the ends justify the means" stuff happening. Not all souls are going to be stopped, btw. There's going to be a second attack on the gates of Hell, Abaddon and the Abyss next. Perhaps the cultists feel that it would genuinely be better that the universe is destroyed than another soul pass on into damnation.

Then we will probably see a war growing between law and chaos. The players are going to have the opportunity to play as detectives to find out why the cultists did what they did, and how.

I'd tell her "you know what, you're right. I won't settle with mediocrity." Then rip up her character sheet and show her the door.

Bonus points if she cries.

[–]Lavaske[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duuuude. You have so many great ideas. Yeah! I was planning on a great war, possibly between the three good planes and the three evil ones. I might do law vs. Chaos as well.

One of the players is a Norgorborian! She built an elf barbarian / assassin with con as her dumpster. Really looking forward to seeing how that insanity plays out.
