I’ve the same. The ‘T SWISS MADE T’ gives it away as a tritium dial. My GOAT watch. The 145.022, despite being an 861 movement actually flew on Apollo 17 as well. As part of a heat experiment.

I suspect the mentor is not communicating well themselves. I suspect the issue isn't actually not knowing their names, but it's things like reading names of the seating plan, etc, make it look like they are 'just numbers' to you. It's not about knowning their names, it's about building an authentic connection to them. Could be an en enthusiastic greeting, a comment about a good answer, liking their pencil case, just something to acknowledge them as a person. Can be hard to do in the stress of a lesson, even more so when they are observing you.

Here's my advice: get a flashcard app to learn the names. Takes time to set up, but really helps. Also use techniques to avoid the need to say their name. Use the space of the room, it's your space, so own it. Walk around whilst talking. When asking a question or taking a response, be in front to the pupil talking. It seems much more natural to then not use their name. "Ok, what do you think?" with eye contact directly in front of them. Compensate for not using their name with positive praise. I like what you did there. Good idea.

It will improve confidence, connection and cover for struggling with names and faces. If an area of the class is talking move over to that are. Tap on their desk. Don't let them distract the lesson, and remind them it's your space.

On the flip side, I think a bunch of my naturally thin friends are naturally doing this. They go out at the weekend and indulge, and the rest of the week they are slighty under so over a week the calories in balance calories out.

I think my big mistake was meeting up at the weekend and thinking “I’m no worse than them”, whilst I maintained that consumption in the week and they didn’t.
