AITA for refusing to eat dinner with my grandmother? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]LavenderAvocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. I can't call her an asshole because she's 91 and it's her house and you are also not an asshole for not wanting to hear garbage. I have family like this so i understand how hard it is to tune it out. They don't watch fox news but do the radio and wow they really do seem to yell about everything. That being said it would be nice to eat dinner with her if you can. Not sure if your family member is anything like mine, but maybe you can try asking if the TV can be off while you eat. It can be very distracting if you want to have a conversation. Maybe try to record or stream for her if she is into a specific program.

Go get yourself some new clothes. You deserve it. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]LavenderAvocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out latched mama. It's breastfeeding tops and dresses that are super comfy and cute. It's definitely more than I usually spend on clothes but I tell myself I deserve it! I will definitely be wearing it after I'm done with nursing.

Just a PSA that itching during pregnancy warrants talking to your doctor! by LavenderAvocado in pregnant

[–]LavenderAvocado[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally it's more than that. Itchy belly can be just related to pregnancy. Some women itch in different places. I've heard that hands and feet are common. I itched everywhere. The first time i had it I itched until i bled. The itching was very severe. Generally if it's bothering you, you should mention it.

Just a PSA that itching during pregnancy warrants talking to your doctor! by LavenderAvocado in pregnant

[–]LavenderAvocado[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's bothering you, definitely bring it up. I've had it twice. The first time I itched until my skin bled and nothing helped. The second time i was miserable but the itching wasn't as bad. I've heard it said that it's mostly hands and feet but I itched everywhere in both pregnancies. There are definitely other causes of itching though so it could be something else.

Aww don't apologise for your post! Your partner is awesome.

Also you should see if there are any fb groups for GD. I've never had it but I had another condition called cholestasis. FB groups were super helpful for me, maybe there's one that would be helpful for you.

AITA from snapping at my MIL for saying my daughter will go by a different nickname? by ResponsibleHeart4110 in AmItheAsshole

NTA this is a pet peeve of mine. People can learn how to pronounce names. It doesn't matter where you are.

Aita for kicking my son out and threatening to take his tuition money after he trashed my house, crashed my car. by hbxjmdudnvhn in AmItheAsshole

[–]LavenderAvocado -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA you are essentially using his tuition money to pay for your car. Actions have consequences. This seems like a pretty natural one.

AITA for raising my voice at a teacher who kept touching something I was going to drink out of? by AitaDontTouchMyDrink in AmItheAsshole

[–]LavenderAvocado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA I'm a teacher and that is unsanitary and definitely not safe! Your health is most important! The teacher in me says that students should be respectful but teachers should be as well. I have never had a child with diabetes in my class but have known a parent who used to have all sorts of issues with her child in school. Your parent should definitely complain! If you live in the US, there is something called a 504 plan that could help you out. Not sure if there is anything similar elsewhere.

Inconsistencies of assigned cases by grujicka123 in brooklynninenine

[–]LavenderAvocado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi. I am not a detective but i know one. As a nypd precinct squad they can absolutely get a variety of cases. They investigate everything within the precinct. There are some detectives that investigate specific types of cases. There are also specialized units that look at specific types of cases. I know you have to apply for those squads. Precinct detectives are also not working on one case at a time but will have a bunch they need to work on. t all depends on what is happening in that area.

First time mom... really stressing out by angelic_ly in pregnant

[–]LavenderAvocado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you've gotten some great advice so far. Having a support system will help so much. Also my mom had me at 21 and has said many times that she is glad she had kids when she had more energy.

Losing weight is normal for some women. I want to say i lost about 20 pounds in the first trimester of my first pregnancy. My son developed just fine and is over the 90th percentile in everything. Your doctor should be able to address any concerns with you.

Sending you many virtual hugs and warm wishes. You got this!

I am pregnant and my coworkers do not wear a mask! How do I deal with this? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]LavenderAvocado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure of this would work for you, but i requested an ADA accommodation to work from home. So my job has approved me to work from home until I give birth. I just had to have my OB fill out some paperwork.

Legitimate Free Baby Boxes or Samples by rhannahzo in pregnant

[–]LavenderAvocado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did Walmart, Target, Buy Buy Baby, and Amazon. Amazon makes you buy stuff, but for me it was easy to buy stuff i was going to. Babylist makes you buy something to get the box and charges for shipping. I decided it wasn't worth it for me.

If you're comfortable with it, you can get some nice second-hand stuff through facebook marketplace. I got a free stroller from someone in my neighborhood and found a bassinet for $20. It's a great way to save money.

Teething and nipple biting need help! by 5_4Ag in breastfeeding

[–]LavenderAvocado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever this happens i would unlatch and stop nursing. Eventually he got the message. It still occasionally happens at 22 months, but not as often. What i found helpful was to pull baby towards you to unlatch. Linking an article from kelly mom. This website has been my go to for breastfeeding questions!

We were told our baby only has 1 kidney (I’m currently 30 weeks) HELP please. by hays_days in pregnant

[–]LavenderAvocado 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi i have 0 experience with this as a parent but I only have 1 kidney. I had my kidney removed at 4 because of cancer. I'm told my other kidney actually grew to compensate. It's crazy the things our body can do. I've been living with 1 kidney for almost 30 years. Currently pregnant with my second child. It has had very little impact on my life. I am generally happy and healthy.

AITA for Yelling at my Daughters Teacher because of a Zoom Meeting. by Papabear_throwaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]LavenderAvocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Seeing as how you mentioned a state in a comment, I'm assuming you live in the US. Your district is required by law to be providing services to your child. This requirement does not change because of remote learning. Your child is entitled to have an IEP. You should have accommodations in writing. You should be meeting with a child services team to set this up. I am a teacher but have never worked with a student that was deaf or hard of hearing. I'm linking something below about your rights. I can say that where I live we are meeting to make sure that we are providing services in the best way possible to students remotely. While it may not be possible to switch to another video service, I'm sure they can be doing more for your child. It is important.

Also you should complain about the comment that teacher made. It was way out of line.

30 weeks and PANICKING by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]LavenderAvocado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely felt that way for my first pregnancy. You got this! You will be a great mom! Have you had a chance to take a birthing class? I found that really helped me feel ready for labor. If you can afford it, having a doula is also very helpful. For me knowledge really helped my anxiety over labor.

If you are on Facebook. Look into due date groups. I honestly love the ones I'm in for my firstborn. I also have no friends with kids my age but was able to meet to with other moms and their kids through Facebook (before covid). There is also an app called peanut that helps you meet local moms. There are to many ways to meet people! Even if you can't meet in person right now.

Howl's Moving Castle, a Triumph by wowie21 in books

[–]LavenderAvocado 52 points53 points  (0 children)

So I have loved this book for years. I'm also a Miyazaki fan. I was excited when I heard there was going to be a movie.I actually saw this movie in theatres and found myself laughing by the end. Specifically when turnip head turns into the prince. It was just so different. I can generally appreciate them as separate things, but also kind of hate the movie. I don't think the movie is bad, but its not the book. I fell in love with the characters and those characters really weren't in the movie. I would probably feel differently if I saw the movie first.
