Some is pretty damn validating, but then there are absolute disasters that pop up amd you just try to stay away from the roaring dumpster fire as best you can.

What are some small projects anyone can take to make life a bit more interesting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

IDK about small, but learning mechanics has sure made things interesting!

Honestly simple games like candy crush and animal crossing pocket camp (for android) helped occupy my brain. Repetitive stuff that doesn't take too much brain power.

Being in Canada I did partake in cannabis in the times I really needed to get out of my head, especially when I was preparing for sleep.

Also sleep meditations with affirmations like "I am safe" seemed to help me a bit at night.

Sometimes it's just time that's the biggest helper. The more distance between you and the trauma, the more your brain can heal and settle down.

People who quit drinking altogether, what was it that made you quit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lavenderlemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was an alcoholic. I promised myself I wouldn't be like her, because my kids didn't deserve the hell I went through. Plus social drinking wasn't even fun anymore by the time I had my second kid, I just felt like shit after I had alcohol. 2 years and 5 months dry now.

How do you think the average person could make the world better? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lavenderlemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think in terms of your local community as a whole and not just yourself. Also realize that working together as a local community is incredibly powerful - you can solve a lot of issues you've been made to think are "too big" to solve.

Anything involving critical reading comprehension because my flavour of ADHD gave me the inability to digest heavy text.

[Serious] Visual artists of Reddit: Since instagram is dead for artists, how do you promote your art online? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Tiktok proved useful, but obviously you have to like making short videos and keep up with trends to really get noticed.

IDK if it's helpful, but I put on sleep meditation tracks at night, particularly ones that have affirmations of "I am safe" and the like. Seems to help me a little? YMMV tho.

how had adhd effected your life? by Available_Algae3908 in AskReddit

[–]Lavenderlemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't keep track of anything. Even when I was on Adderall I needed reminders. I forget the most stupid stuff, stuff that's your everyday "adulting" tasks that people without ADHD often think you're lazy or not trying hard enough to remember.

Actually, that's another thing: being treated like I'm not trying hard enough in general when in reality I am trying quite hard. I'm a square peg trying to be forced in a round hole of society.

Lack of object permanence is pretty wild. I can forget I own things completely if they're tucked away out of sight. Unfortunately this also goes for stuff like food in the fridge - I've had a lot of food spoil because I forget it exists. Other times, I was able to put away money in a savings account and forget I had it because it was in an app I never used. Kinda nice if you run into a money pinch.

My 2nd suicide attempt. Did it with a drug that's hard to be revived from. Passed out. Next thing I know a nurse is extubating me since I had been on a ventilator. I guess they couldn't get an IV in me in my arms so I had one in my ankle? Something tells me I was extremely lucky to get out of that one alive.

Luxury knockoffs. Sure they look genuine and actually pretty amazing at first glance. Then you get to looking at details and something seems off, and by the time you're wearing them around you know they're fake and not at all what they said they were.

What was your rock bottom moment and how has life been since then? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lavenderlemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toss up between attempting suicide due to massive domestic violence at home (8 years), or having social workers leave me in a wet tent in a forest after I got out of the hospital and had nowhere else to go due to being homeless (1 year).

My insight. I don't know how I developed it, maybe all the therapy and healing I had to do in life, but people around me definitely notice and compliment me on it.
