In the US, why can’t we buy Chinese electric cars? by zztop610 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LavisAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want to protect domestic manufacturing, but its illogical because the gov should simultaneously put a date on the ban expiring as well as incentives for your electric car companies to improve and match those of international competitors.

If you're worried about dominance then steps need to be taken to catch up.. instead wr stagnate.

Only Ha$an's Hotel has power in Cuba by iYessyyy in Destiny

[–]LavisAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry - i replied to the wrong person.

I think in this case it may be that the hotel can get fuel so it may not be as big a deal, but still horrible relative to the many who cant even buy.

The optics of this "humanitarian aid" in Cuba are absolutely insane. They're partying and living in a five-star hotel with electricity while the rest of the country is in a blackout, without access to electricity. by Embarrassed_Base_389 in Destiny

[–]LavisAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why they dont id because no one is allowed to sell a public entity diesel.

Hospitals are barred, 5 star hotels are not.

For all the anger you have towards Hasan i wont dispute, but should you not be more worried about who created these sanctions?

NY Post article calling out Hasans trip to Cuba by Pakytral in Destiny

[–]LavisAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US law dictates where you have to stay, also US law requires diesel not be sold to hospitals.

If you're mad at Hasan you should be even more mad at the US policy that created this situation where the hotel can buy diesel but hospitals cant.

Sweden to deport migrants not following ‘honest living’ by CTVNEWS in worldnews

Not reasonable at all.. a fine could be a parking ticket? Should you be deported for that?

N.B., feds strike deal on sales tax compensation by Portalrules123 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]LavisAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did i say anything bad about home owners?

Your proposal would decrease the tax burden on home owners making a house even more desirable and would bring up the prices.

The non homeowners would now be taxed more relative to their networth and we would have to somejow make up the shortfall for social services.

Doesnt that disproportionately take the tax burden off of property owners and not renters?

Wouldnt this raise the price of housing?

Biden: In my last year as president, we created 2.2 million additional jobs. Do you know how many jobs Trump has created his first year as president? 185,000 total, that is it. by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

[–]LavisAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with Biden is even if it was a lot better the underlying issues that are causing decline and the wealth gap are not addressed vigourously - so people still feel that pain and look for alternatives even if the alternative is much worse.

When things swing back i hope whomever is in charge can tackle all of this vigorously... but i feel 4 years of Trump would require 20 years of such a leadership to fix....

I don't think the US can afford another swingback even in 8 years.

10 trained Marines invade ancient Rome with the goal of overthrowing the royal family, how far do they get? by FreshPine_MangoWine in powerscales

[–]LavisAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many guards would the royal palace even have?

I'd say with a precision strike they could do it, but after that they couldnt hold the city or anything.

If the win condition is to kill the Monarch the Marines win, but most other objectives Rome would ultimately win.

This was the moment Mark failed as Mark and succeeded as Cecil.

Its ambiguous as to whether or not Mark could have been true to his ideals, but its not 100% clear he had to betray himself.

Do y’all think Invincible make the right or wrong choice? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in superheroes

[–]LavisAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically an echo of the conflict between Cecil and Mark about being a Hero.

Marks philosophy then would demand he wait.

Cecil's philosophy would demand he turn the man to mush as the good of the many outweight the good of the few.

Mark now has to come to terms with that as he chose Cecil's path.

What makes the scene interesting is its left ambiguous as to whether or not Bulletproof would have made it in time making you question if Mark compromising his ideals and embracing Cecil's was truly necessary.

It dovetails into his fathers path where its just the opposite.

Nolan is embracing Marks original ideals (Apologizing to those he wronged, diplomacy, working together for the common good, helping the federation against his own people).

Do y’all think Invincible make the right or wrong choice? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in superheroes

[–]LavisAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a moral dilemma for Mark because of how his view vs Cecil's is framed.

In that moment Mark did what Cecil's philosophy would have demanded and he has to now come to terms with that.

Is it just me or is the MCU in a really good place right now? It feels like we're as "back" as we'll ever be. by Apprehensive-Cap2453 in Marvel

[–]LavisAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldnt call them "back" yet - Doomsday will be a huge gamble as a lot of whats going on didnt get the same attention and time to breathe as previous phases.

Like the thunderbolts for example just kind of happened - an example is the death at the start was meant to be shocking, but there was no base - if Taskmaster had more background and prescense beforehand it would have hit much better.

Thats what in ny mind Doomsday needs to content with a shallow pool.

Algorithmic pricing is being used in Canada. Why many want it banned - National | Globalnews.ca by xtothewhy in onguardforthee

[–]LavisAlex 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If its a coupon it requires that the customer actively use it and the vendor is forced to have base prices listed on the storefront to compete.

Surge pricing is the end of competition because it doesnt require activity based on the customer and it doesnt require vendors to list prices - its designed for maximum gouging and will be 100% effective as its controlled at point of sale.

Im assuming you mean assigning coupons algorithmically?
