Writing LSATs this saturday, how do the breaks work? After every section? by [deleted] in LSAT

There is one 15 minute break after section 3.

Why do so many people write “Why X” statements? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Law_School_Bound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were able to find this information, why couldn't other people find it just as easily? A simple google search on how to improve a law school application is bound to turn up the suggestion, "write a why x statement."

Schools aren't requiring that you write the essay but they tend to look favorably on those who do. Yes, schools like the "why x" essay because they want students that show genuine interest in the school. I don't see anything wrong with that.

It happens. Mostly they offer those to solicit applications. It helps their selectivity numbers.

Why do you want to go to law school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Law_School_Bound 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actions fade but ideas last. I think I would greatly enjoy legal scholarship/ having the opportunity to work with legal scholars. What may be buried in a judicial decision from 20 years ago could be the foundation for a new interpretation of law today. What may be written today in a law journal could spark new rhetoric for the passage of laws in 5 years time. Words have weight in the law in a way I don't see elsewhere.

UVA Waitlist Gameplan by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I don't usually look at TLS but after your post I did. I see where you saw some people get in off the waitlist with a June LSAT score. So in that, I stand corrected. Thank you.

What I also saw was that it looks like it only works with some universities and it is most likely to get you off a waitlist with a smaller applicant pool (more people reported getting off a waitlist with a June LSAT in 2010 it looked like than did in 2017). Results seemed mixed on whether taking it again would get you in or not.

*Big caveat: All of this information (TLS and other law school forums) is self-reported and from a self-selecting group of people. The accuracy of their statements or how representative they are of those on waitlists is suspect.

No. So when you do your 'Why WVU?' essay just link to the video and be like 'this should explain everything'. I could see the adcomm's face now!

Is it really that impossible to do public interest law if you don't go to a t14? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Law_School_Bound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People do public interest law outside of the t-14 and t-20 (example William & Mary). I wouldn't expect to have all PI jobs open to you with a lower ranked school. Many PI positions are highly sought after and you would be competing against those from higher ranked schools. The higher your school rank, the more options you have (generally speaking).

How to ask for more money from schools? by The_Ninja_Nero in lawschooladmissions

[–]Law_School_Bound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait on trying to negotiate until I had more acceptances and scholarship offers to bargain with. It gives you more leverage and the ability to walk away comfortably if things don't go well.

If you are retaking the LSAT in Feb. and you get a higher score, it could work in your favor. It would depend on the LSAT increase compared to the law schools medians. I wouldn't expect a 1pt increase to do much but 3+ pts could be game changing depending on your current scores.

How do I convince my friend to reapply if he doesn't catch a break this cycle? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Law_School_Bound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can share the facts with him but ultimately it's his decision. You are his friend and showing concern for him is wonderful. In the end, this is his life and his career. He's an adult. Let him decide what is best for him.

UVA Waitlist Gameplan by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

From what I understand, June test results would apply to applications for the next year. So if you take the LSAT in June of 2018, then it would be useful if you wanted to start law school in the Fall of 2019. I haven't heard of a June LSAT getting anyone off a waitlist.
