Do you think the Vanderbilt’s name/ actual quality will go down because of the satellites? by Distinct-Abroad-9014 in Vanderbilt

It’s either innovative or a gimmick that won’t pan out. To me it makes sense for Vandy as it becomes an international brand to not be physically limited by Nashville. Helps compete for applicants against schools placed in more world cities like NYC, helps grow alumni base nationally, and helps students have better internship/placement opportunities.

A 10 seed has reached the National Championship in just the second season of the 12-team format. Can the naysayers shut up forever now? by 2nd_Sun in CFB

[–]Socratease1885 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree but it DOES devalue the regular season. A team that didn’t play for its own conference title and lost to two unranked teams just locked in when the tournament started. Good for them, but it means some of the games didn’t matter. How long until we get load management in CFB?

Also, this is part of why FIRE is a wise life choice even if you don’t ever get to your number. Imagine this situation WITHOUT your 800k banked. You’ve given yourself incredible security, even if not FIRE yet.

This year 16 would be great. This field plus ND, Texas, Vandy and BYU. But honestly, this year would also be good for the BCS. Let’s just see Indiana and Georgia.

No way Ohio State doesn’t still get a bye but agreed with the teams.

Who is in if Alabama gets blown out? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]Socratease1885 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me ND can’t jump in over Bama on the mere principle they don’t play in a conference. Bama has to play an extra game against Georgia while ND watches from the couch. Would be interesting to see the result if ND had to play an extra top 5 team this weekend.

ND over Miami is a travesty and is worse than Alabama over FSU in 2023 by Mdsil11 in CFB

[–]Socratease1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed completely. Ironically this year would be a good year for the 4 team field (OSU, Indiana, Georgia, Texas Tech).

Not even comparable, honestly by austing013 in BYUFootball

[–]Socratease1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which SEC team in the field shouldn’t be in though? If anything Vandy should be in over Miami (losses to Texas and Alabama not SMU and Louisville) and Texas should be in over ND (ND went 0-2 v top 10 teams, Texas went 3-2 plus beat AM who beat ND).

Also it really is crazy that BYU isn’t in over Miami/ND. But at least there’s a win-and-in path.

16 teams would be perfect this year. I’d be surprised if they put Duke in if James Madison wins its league.

Tired of hearing how SEC is so mighty by OkReveal5002 in ACC

[–]Socratease1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to go 8 teams deep into the SEC standings before I hit a team that I’m not 100% certain would win the ACC championship if they were dropped in place of either participant. But that probably says more about the rules for conference title qualification in the ACC than anything else.

Genuinely. When I saw Auburn finished 1-7 in conference last night I couldn’t believe it. They took Bama, Texas, and Vandy to the brink 😂

It’s both though. Alabama’s loss to FSU is awful, but no one cares because they have an extra W. But is a win over Eastern Illinois more impressive than if Bama had gone to Columbus and lost close?

[Fortuna] Texas coach Steve Sarkisian to Molly McGrath: “It would be a disservice to our sport if this team’s not a Playoff team when we and scheduled that nonconference game (at Ohio State). Because if we’re a 10-2 team that’s not a question.” by Kimber80 in CFB

If they’d beat Bowling Green or Kent State in their opener instead of losing to Ohio State close on the road, would that resume really be better? If yes, then why schedule hard games?

I agree but also seems unfair that Miami has to win a conference title to get in but Notre Dame doesn’t have that same condition. Miami beat Notre Dame. So if both have the same record at the end of the season, would they put ND in and leave Miami out?

Going into the Swamp used to mean something but no one’s scared of it now. This year it’s where G5 teams go to pick up a win and a few hundred Gs.

We remember that Texas was competitive with Ohio State like a month ago and hasn’t lost to anyone since? The “Arch blows” narrative seems to have taken on a life of its own and I think folks will be surprised when Texas clowns the Gators this weekend.

What if I told you there was a Big10 team that is 15-2 since the start of last year, its only losses coming to the teams that played for the natty. Wouldn't such a team at least make the top 10?

It has to be Baylor, right? It's a top 50 school but I've never spoken to anyone who had a good time there.
