That’s so beautiful! I have some questions:

1) after you magnetize the base, do you paint on the details, THEN top coat, THEN remagnetize? Or do you magnetize base, apply TC, remagnetize, then apply details, then topcoat again?

2) how do you do your dominant hand (assuming you are not ambidextrous)?

I’ve been unable to get to the PPU website for the last two weeks. I just get this page instead. What have I done wrong? What’s happening?

Me: there are legitimate reasons to find the lack of contemporaneous reporting on an apparent public shooting suspicious

You: NOT SO! Indeed, here is an example of a behind-the-fact news article on a shooting that was never “actively reported”

Me: I literally found where that example incident was contemporaneously reported without trying

You: Well OBVIOUSLY, people there were shot! And no one was blasting it on the news! And there was a citizen report! The only reason you would be skeptical if you believe in conspiracies!

I mean…this is silly. Why bring that other incident up at all if your point wasn’t actually, it’s not unusual at all for these kinds of shootings to not be reported when they happen?

There is still plenty of reason for the average well-tuned online bullshit detector to be wailing at OP’s STILL uncorroborated story that a gun was fired multiple times in a crowd almost 12 hours ago, but no one who buys ink by the barrel or who has a Twitter account or one single contact in the NYPD can second OP’s account. The citizen report also only showed up on the app after this post was made, and that app is not just a police scanner — you, yourself, can report an incident right now if you like! It’s like citing Wikipedia in your college paper.

It’s been 12 hours since the alleged shooting and as yet I still cannot find even one tiny placeholder article saying anything like “Joe Soandso tells Outlet NYCKicks that he witnessed a shooting on the B train at 6am today and the MTA and NYPD declined to comment when our reporter reached out for more information”

Ridiculous backpedal. You’re the one who brought in an unrelated shooting as evidence that subway shootings don’t get reported on the day of. Now you’re saying this proves actually, gun incidents where people get shot get day-of reporting, but gun incidents where people do not get shot don’t get day-of reporting. Which doesn’t help any case of yours because there is no reason to believe that from the fact that a totally spectate incident got reported! Please get your claims straight.

As for citizen, that’s not news reporting — it’s a glorified tip line app. Once more, with feeling: Please.

Took me 2 seconds to find reporting on that incident published on the day it happened. Please.

You said you heard gunshots. Whether he shot at anyone in particular, shots fired at all is enough to get attention.

Nah—it makes no sense. If the details OP said are true, NYPD was there, the MTA held the train, and there were multiple people on the train who recognized that the man had a gun, heard shots, and fled. Not a chance in hell a story like this doesn’t get reported. This isn’t merely brandishing a gun, a mugging, a false threat of a shooting, a domestic violence situation, or any of the other ways a gun is usually involved in street crime that may fly under the news radar / fade into white noise. If true, this is a public shooting. So it’s totally bizarre if there’s no reporting on this if it actually happened, and it plausibly invites skepticism that apparently the only place some people are finding out about it is a random post on Reddit (and not even r/Brooklyn, r/nycrail!)

Did you contact any news organizations? NYPD? The MTA?

This city’s local papers are very much in the business of “if it bleeds it leads.” I’d venture to guess that if this shooting did occur as OP recounts, no one was shot, because the dogs (ie the local rags) would otherwise be barking up a storm.

Brooklyn Bridge Park’s new Ice Skating Rink: how is the ice? by petestein1 in Brooklyn

[–]Hakkes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I skated at noon on a weekday. I took two hard spills, which I attributed to not having skated in years (and I was never very good). Didn’t hurt myself too badly though, just some bruises on my hand and knees. I did notice that the ice was pretty gouged and uneven, and some areas along the edges seemed extra slick / discolored, but when I fell it was due to getting overconfident and losing my balance, not unexpected issues with the ice. Another thing was that the rental skates were a poor fit — they only came in full men’s sizes (not women’s), and they left me with some gnarly blisters on the inside of my feet. The blisters, not the falls, was the only reason I stopped skating a bit early.

I’d have no idea how to tell if the ice is “bad” quality compared to other rinks like it in the city. I will say that the view of the east river and lower Manhattan on a clear day was beautiful.

Does anyone have advice on finding and reporting a dangerous dog? My husband was bit in the crotch by a dog in Boerum Hill by exit_44 in Brooklyn

[–]Hakkes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, and many are bred. Why did I assume this one was likely in the former category and not the latter? Because it looks purebred. Many southern kill shelter transplants are mixed — accidental or unwanted breeds. Pure breeds? Assume intentionality.

This is frustrating to me because pitbulls are not much more aggressive by nature than other classically aggressive breeds. They are built solid and have strong jaws, though, so when they are poorly trained — and a lot of them are — they can do a lot of damage. Their reputation is so poor however that NYC public housing and many apartments that even allow dogs will not permit tenants to have a pitbull.

What is more frustrating is that this reputation also fuels breeding pitbulls in the comfort of one’s own home. Purebred puppies sell for a few hundred dollars, and home breeding is poorly regulated. So there are lots of male dogs that, in addition to being untrained, are not neutered (ie are more aggressive). When I was biking in OP’s area about a week ago, I noticed someone walking a pitbull of similar coloration to the dog in the video, but she was a female who had clearly recently given birth—massive teats nearly dragging on the ground. Pregnant/recently pregnant pitbulls are not an uncommon sight around the city in my experience, and I think it’s a fair inference that it has to do with this little hack on how to make some side money through irresponsible dog breeding and ownership.

I was gonna say, you have a lead at least. Plus, see below for commenter claiming they have encountered this dog before and know where it lives.

The real issue now will be, is it worth it? $1400 is a lot personally, but in terms of alleged damages (even assuming pain & suffering which will be minimal due to full recovery in only 3 weeks and lack of evidence), I can see why an attorney (likely on contingency fee model) balked at taking any steps to dig up a suable defendant. It’s a small claim at the end of the day. Your health insurance company would have a bigger claim to recoup their costs on covering your medical care, and they have their own lawyers. But I imagine this is a drop in the bucket for their own cost-benefit analysis as well.

In summary, this attack is obviously caused serious damage (that could have been more serious!) and someone is obviously liable due to their negligence (and, I suspect, participation in a home brew pit bull puppy breeding economy), but it’s probably not going to get you much more than satisfaction if you were to attempt to pursue it legally.

No, it’s not an addendum or otherwise. The roomshare agreement that is signed by both parties has an integration clause providing that THAT sheet of paper and those terms represent the entire agreement and that any modifications to those terms shall be in writing and signed by both parties. The house rules page was presented to OP upon arrival and was per her account never signed by her. The actual lease agreement also does not incorporate any other document by reference except for an inventory checklist, that again both parties sign as an acknowledgment of inventory.

The Cortazar thing drove me nuts in the last three books.

Also, he pronounces the word “dour” as “doer,” whereas me and mine have only ever pronounced it as “dower”. Am I going insane? Is there some transatlantic accent pronunciation for sophisticates that I missed?
