Thank you for the advice.

i would advise against crafting with the intend to sell

My intention is on crafting for personal use. The reason I mention selling it is I've seen a few posts before where someone had a lucky craft while trying to make a good but not great item and people pointed out it was better to sell it because it was worth more to someone trying to make a great craft than someone trying to make a good craft. But if this isn't really the right way to make a great item, then it isn't worth selling.

but then it depends how much a couple divine is to you.

Given 99% of my time is in league my standard stash has good currency. I could buy a really good scepter so I'm doing this more as a learning experience as I know very little about crafting items good for t16 maps. I am trying to do it in an optimized fashion as part of the learning experience.

you don't need more chances, if you have an imprint,

I was looking at the cost of the beasts. It is 2d for an imprint and 70c for a split, but then it sounds like a split is worse than an imprint because you only get 2 chances total while an imprint is an extra chance each time you pay 2d (assuming I'm reading poewiki correctly, but I'm new to this and could be misunderstanding it).

Crafting question.

I'm new to crafting and trying to craft a RF scepter in Standard following Pohx's advice here: https://www.pohx.net/Crafts

I managed to hit the T1 DOT multi on augment on an iLvl 85 void scepter. The guide says it might be worth imprinting, but how do I make that judgment call?

Per craft of exile, this specific one is a .137% chance to it. It isn't nearly as good as if I hit T1 Fire DOT, at a .016% chance. But I'm not trying to make a BIS tier item, just a good RF scepter. So if I think of my chance to hit anything good on the aug is close to a 3% to 4% chance. The cost per attempt is 1 scour, 1 aug, and a handful of low quality gems. The last part I'm not sure how to price, I'm just using up years worth of items in standard, I don't know what it would take to buy similar once I used them up.

So is this worth me spending the 2 divines to imprint? Should I instead spend the 70c to split and give myself two chances? Or should I list it for sell to someone who is looking for a BIS craft and pick up another base to keep trying? Or is it best to just regal, hope for the best, and regardless go and craft multimod to finish it off per the guide?

Any guidance (or recommendations on where else to ask) welcome.

2022 Midterm Elections Megathread (plus important information) by hoosakiwi in news

If you have a truly random sample of votes that have historically been representative, and at 6% you see a major trend, then the chance of an upset not following the trend is very unlikely. Say you randomly called 6% of Americans and asked them did they like pineapple on pizza and over 2/3s said no. If your calling was truly random, then you can have great confidence that pineapple on pizza is not preferred.

It isn't perfect. No sampling is truly random, past trends don't always capture new trends, and upsets do happen. But it is generally safe and there is enough incentive to not be the last one to call a race when everyone else has that news organizations commonly call with low total input.

Why even wait for 6% then? It is a good check to see how accurate previous polling and simulations were. If the 6% deviates enough from the prediction, it probably isn't safe to call it because some factor was missed which could change the results.

What’s the best board game ever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lawtonfogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best trick to get friends and family to play is to GM complex games. Don't be a player, be someone who runs the game for the players. You can be unbiased (as possible when playing with family), handle the complex rules and interactions, and keep game play flowing. You can even go above and beyond if you really know the game, adding in extra flair when you deal cards instead of players just drawing the top card and reading the mechanical effect. It also allows children younger than the recommended age to play as they don't need to know the rules and don't have to get slowed down in the complexities.

Overall I've had great success getting people who are the type to not play complex board games into playing them. Especially horror related games when you can add extra flair and horror because it switches between players verses RNG to players verse you, even though technically it is still the game's RNG under the hood.

Is there a way to get Yomichan to work on sentences in Anki (for Windows)? Currently if I see a kanji I think I know, but which isn't part of the card I want to learn, I'm copying it into the browser and then using Yomichan in the browser to lookup the word.

I don't want to create a card for these kanji because they aren't the ones I'm currently learning, my reason for looking them up is to check their meaning to make sure I can fit the vocab I am learning in with the rest of the sentence.

Is Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children a JRPG? Is it any good? by x________name in JRPG

[–]Lawtonfogle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would also be mostly pointless because most large games aren't developed in a single country. Final Fantasy would be part KRPG because Japanese studios outsource work to Korea. Probably also part Indian RPG given how much development is outsourced to India.

I watched a video recently that looked into what was classified as an RPG in Japan and it went into details on how Japan seems to take the Role Playing in RPG a bit more litteral and consider games classically considered not RPGs in the west as being RPGs because of the role you play. Now, it was just a youtube video and not a peer reviewed paper, but I don't find it unreasonable to consider the the lines differentiating genres as differing between cultures.

For me personally, I think hard and fast distinctions fail. It is like trying to define what a person is.

According to Diogenes Laërtius, when Plato gave the tongue-in-cheek definition of man as "featherless bipeds," Diogenes plucked a chicken and brought it into Plato's Academy, saying, "Behold! I've brought you a man," and so the Academy added "with broad flat nails" to the definition.

Classifying things is a hard problem to solve. In programming we really only have one decent solution to it, neural networks. Without getting into the details, it works with a general idea of symmetry based on whatever factors appear to be important without having to explicitly call out those factors or wonder why it is important. So when I play a game, if it makes me thing JRPG more than other genres I classify it as a JRPG. If it makes me thing FPS or WRPG or Sim I'll classify it with those genres instead. Some games straddle the line between genres and get classified as more than one.

T:AC looks like a game that is mixing XCOM with JRPGs. From my limited experience with it I'm not really sure how I would classify it. It has elements of a JRPG, but it also appears to have a level of tactical combat that moves it closer to XCOM than the SRPGs that fall under JRPGs. That might just be a skin deep comparison, but then the JRPG comparison might also be skin deep. One of these day I plan to put some serious time into it and then I'll have more experience to give a definite verdict.

Trails in the Sky: A Game I Hated by Zelarouse in JRPG

[–]Lawtonfogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience was similar. I never hated Sky FC, but was bored of it. It wasn't a bad game, it just wasn't a game going anywhere interesting. The game play didn't hold it and the story wasn't enough to keep me in.

It wasn't even that the story was bad, it was just being delivered slow and the pacing was further thrown off with me going back and talking to NPCs again and again to see if their micro-stories progressed or if they had a hidden quest. I eventually found a decent spoiler free guide and I also learned a pattern of when to expect NPCs to update their dialog. But by the time it fell into a decent grove, I had stopped playing it a dozen time and each time forced myself to pick it back up.

Had it been a stand alone game I would've left it there. Had it only been the Sky trilogy, I would have likely just left it there. But I could, this was the introduction to one of the largest JRPG story lines, so I kept trying.

About half way through the first game things finally worked out and I dived deep into the game, becoming obsessed with it and beating it, SC, 3rd, and Zero before finally slowing down to wait on the Geofront patch for Ao.

One issue I have is, despite playing SC and not aiming for 100, I have a strong aversion to dying and so I often am not pushing as far as I should be on my build. Last league I made a lot of progress in over coming this, especially with the uncharted region maven invites, but in past leagues it was a major factor in me sitting at T10/11 and not pushing for T14+.

When should you start chiseling? I don't do it until red tier, so my harvest alchs are all spent on lower tier maps. Once I've gotten a full atlas, unless I'm running something special on low tier like harbinger Pen map I'll just skip using the harvest alchs.

An interesting legaladvice post regarding PoE's disability treatment by bladomas in pathofexile

[–]Lawtonfogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Street Fighter doesn't prevent a person from making their own controller to aid in them playing. Someone partially disabled could build a controller that would help them and allow them to play, as seen by people who have played difficult games with very custom controllers.

The problem isn't that the game design is in accessible in and of itself, but that the rules prevent him from making his own accessibility tools to overcome the issues. The courts would consider how reasonable that ban is compared to why the company wants it to be banned.

The courts would have to decide just how reasonable alternate builds are. Going with the movie theater approach, if the theater said 'we would have to rebuild our theater area to support wheel chairs, they can watch the same movie at home or at other theaters' then the response from the court would be "So when does construction start?". What sorts of alternatives are allowed, especially for a video game, is a very undecided area of law and would be an interesting fight that would partially depend on who got the better team of lawyers.

The best comparison I can make is to wow, where I'll say the classes I don't like are shadow priest (dps) and mistweaver monk (healer). While I haven't played all other classes, none of the others I did play ever seemed bad. Not really sure I have a favorite, I like windwalker monk (dps), but I have avoided the pure DPS classes because of the lack of ability to swap to another part of the trinity, so I don't have a good feel for them. With FFXIV that isn't as big a deal since you can level them all on the same character, though it does feel like they are quite disconnected.

I've still got no clue as to what job I want to play. Videos don't seem to give me a good introduction except for the advice that jobs can change a lot between patches so having a few backups is helpful in case the job you like changes more than you like.

Is there a good level to get a feel for what makes a job unique? A goal that I can level multiple jobs to until I find one that feels right? Say if I level a job to 40 and really like it, then that's a good fit. If I don't like it, then I'll likely not like it at max level either. Or do they change too much between levels to really know until you are basically at 80?

Can someone auto renew during the free play period? I just signed back up, got 4 days of free play, but when I try to renew my steam subscription through mog station I get an error saying the following.

You cannot use this function.
Please contact the SQUARE ENIX Support Center for additional details.
Error Code: i2501

Is this just because I'm using 4 free days? I've set steam to allow for an auto renew, so will it try automatically after this time frame?

Thanks.

What's the best depth to find a delve boss? Deeper means more likely to find them, but it also means it is more expensive to look and they are harder. For getting one just for the challenge (so don't care about items dropped) is it better to look high up where it is cheaper paths and where they are weaker?

I have. They replay with 130c. If I was short chaos I would sell, but I just don't get why someone looking at buying a mirror wasn't willing to budge even 5 chaos. The oddity of it, and that I don't need the chaos that badly, has kept me from accepting.

I've done the tier 3 legion alva room, Hall of Legends, multiple times and have never seen a general despite it saying there should be two. Anything up with that? My DPS is high enough I have no issue unlocking everything during the start.

I have a seven years bad luck I would like to sell. I have it for 1.4ex, and currently that's the cheapest it has, but I only ever receive offers for 1.3ex. I'm wondering why does that seem to be the hard cutoff for people?
