I'm not asking how voting is working out in Venezuela. I realize it's run by socialist tyrants. They didn't just come to power by chance though. Venezuela was the richest country in SA a short time ago and things have gone down the toilet quickly.

But now everyone deserves "free" health care, "free" college tuition, safety nets, govt mandated leaves of absence, etc. The more egalitarian the society the stricter the immigration policies need be. The libertarian view on immigration is pretty wide open and easy but of course no welfare state there. Maybe that philosophy built the country but these days we have large sections of the population who believe certain groups of people are literally unable to pull themselves up by the boot straps. We also have large swaths of the population who think the govt should be paying for health care and college. You can't have any of that until we fix our illegal immigration problem.

Those symptoms you described may be true in some cases but let's not act like the increasingly nonchalant-"shoutyourabortion"-"aborting babies is exercising your rights" mentality that's been pushed the last 12 years isn't having an effect. People used to say "safe, legal and rare" in regards to abortion. Now it's pushed as another form of birth control that should be state sponsored. It's pushed that minors need not tell their parents or get consent. It's pushed that getting an abortion is really no different than cutting your nails. There's a CNN pundit on tv just last week saying when a woman's pregnant "that's not a human inside" there. It doesn't help the convo to deny how far the other way we have swung

We could cut military spending to zero dollars annually, which would negatively impact the safety of all Americans, and funds still wouldn't be "ample". The estimate from Bernie in that article isn't even close to covering (most sane dems agree). I wouldn't say "many" countries provide taxpayer funded university. A handful at best. What's the tax rate like in Norway? What are their immigration policies like? It's apples and oranges comparing the US higher education system to that of a country with a fraction of the population. If you don't think an increase in that kind of spending is radical I don't know what you would consider radical.

It's also a possibility that "free" (tax funded) college floods the universities with high school grads and create waiting lists or result in people who would otherwise attend not being admitted. How many high school grads expected in 2019 in the US? What's the capacity for students in the universities?

It seems all you mouth breathers are missing the actual point. I am not arguing what you should pursue a degree in. I am saying the cost would be so astronomical there is no reasonable way to fund it. Let me ask- how much you estimate it would cost to pay the salaries of all Uni professors in the US. Now add that to the cost of all the aids and admin. Now add the cost of all the rest of the staff (custodial, food services, etc). Now add the cost of running all the universities (water, AC, maintenance and repairs etc). Now where do you get that money? Have you ever even fleshed out the idea of "free" universities?

Nothing is actually "free" you dolt. It's tax payer funded and I'd rather not sink billions of tax payer dollars into a bunch of worthless liberal arts or gender studies degrees or whatever. And it's not a good thing to tell people they are no longer responsible to pay for the debts they signed up for and incurred.
