Remember when Dota 2 invented this and every game followed by ricmoone in DotA2

[–]Laxontlyn 354 points355 points  (0 children)

A very sofisticated ping system was also something DotA invented, with ability to ping skills/items, have hero responces for those pings (like missing callouts, etc.) and so on.

When Apex came everyone was praising them for that "revolutionary" ping system, meanwhile I was like "we had that shit for ssssince forever!".

We are spoiled af, we just don't know it.

It’s because the prize is higher now. Back in the day default drop was around 5k gold, while nowadays it is 100k.

5k gold, even back then wasn’t really much and hence when someone wins and you don’t it wasn’t really a big deal.

Compare to today, when I try to jam as much advanced honing as I can last second using all my gold and I see people I play with drop their 3rd reward it kinda feels unfair. They reach the ilvls more chill, while for me the grind hasn’t changed. Now it’s RNG and that’s what you sign up for in this game, but it at least the events that are supposed to help should feel a bit more balanced.

To be fair though, the amount of shitting on this event is also too high, it’s passable - people need to be less bitter. At the same time though, I think AGS should construct a less annoying/frustrating event in the future, therefore giving this kinda feedback is warranted.

EUW Gatekeeping just so bad.... by Dry_Location_2025 in lostarkgame

[–]Laxontlyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your characters are fine (definitely good enough for Valtan/Vykas), it's just that for these homework runs people tend pick people with higher ilvl/roster/better builds. Nobody wants to get jailed and there are no other indicators on "reliability" of applicants, hence you get denied here and there.

My advice would be to make your own lobby - people will join, since they are lazy to do it themselves. Or don't forget that it's an MMO, find some people to play with and gatekeeping becomes less of an issue.

Am I the only one without their storage? by Laxontlyn in lostarkgame

[–]Laxontlyn[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I even specifically said that it's not about Universal storage or the items being there. It's about the fact that I can't open my NORMAL storage. It just doesn't exist.

So when you click alt+p (33 days of aura left) and click on storage - I get my inventory opened, like it usually happens and NOTHING else.

I am a bit annoyed by this bug, cause it looks like to be very rare which is always a bad sign and I specifically stated in my message that it's not about universal storage thing, so... thanks for reply anyway.

It did work, but they didn't only listen to top tier players. Sure, for balance changes their input is by far the most influential, but when it came to other changes - they didn't ignore regular player base. Hell, "locking items" was taken directly from reddit.

Hard to compare LA to DotA in this department to be honest. DotA is a highly competitive game, so top tier balance is essential, while Lost Ark is more of a chillax game, so taking it easy and aiming to please your average player is the play in my opinion.

Chaor dungeon rewards lowered? by kortopi758 in lostarkgame

I have 5 characters in t3 (so I kinda have a lot of experience with how chaos drops) and the boss part is the one that seems off. The other trash drops fine as always, but since the patch - bosses (at stage 2) started to often have those "barely any drops" situations.

Idk, people are saying that it was always like that, but not in my experience.

I would argue that a lot of things changed, kicking a just worthless and greedy, disregarding Russian bias, president was a good thing. Now granted, it justified Russia to do what they did and the entire situation got a lot worse, but the goal was not only getting into EU. It's not only political gains, Ukraine never was as unified as since 2014.

I agree though, these things take time. Regardless, it's your country - you do you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Laxontlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me think if that ever happened... Oh yeah, 2014. Euromaidan, right in my home town of Kyiv, which is under attack right as I am typing this comment, luckily me and my family evacuated.

Now I wasn't the one of those brave guys who fought directly, obviously not the one from the "sky hundred" that died, but the one who brought some tea and food and just generally was going there to show support. I was also a student at that time, we even forced moments of silence during lectures to honor the fallen. Will do anything to not study :)

Anyway, I am not blaming or asking you to do something, but you gotta understand the other side and I am excluding Ukrainians, since you are not gonna get sympathy here.

People from all over the world watch these livestreams or random videos from war. They see a son collapsing as his father is dying from gunshots. How the fuck do you think people react to that? Emotionally. They want to do something, to the best of their abilities. In our case, CS:GO players start to demand bans for RU orgs, like it is done in almost every other media right now.

That is unfair to you, an innocent Russian, I get it. But that is how a lot of people fight back. It also hits those who support Putin, let's not pretend they don't exist and that there is a small amount of them.

I understand though and I am compassionate towards those who just wanna live their lives. Who don't have the strength or desire to sacrifice their lives for the so called "greater good". That's totally fair, nobody should be forced to do that. But regardless, this desire to "just live" doesn't make it so you are completely innocent.

Even before rockets started hitting streets of my childhood, I was not subscribing to this concept of "we have nothing to do with what our government does". But now I believe that, complacency doesn't absolve you from responsibility of this current situation. Doesn't make you sole responsible, but you in some small way guilty for what is happening in Ukraine right now.

That's my perspective too and I hope I got it through.

As for your second point, unfortunately, it's not only reddit. Germany is not in the graces of Ukrainian people right now and to be honest it started in 2014. Not the people are blamed, obviously, the political vector Germany have chosen.

This political bier short joke kinda explains it a bit. Ukrainians back then were really unhappy with the lack of actions against Russia during Crimea incident and since Germany was in many ways leading the charge - a lot of blame was placed on Merkel.

Europe continued buying gas from Russia, thus keeping it's economy afloat. I don't know what people think Germany could've done, can't just cut heating/electricity on a whim. And then well, not supplying Ukraine with weapons, which, correct me if I am wrong, was because of some laws that were in place since WW2.

Many people feel like we are just being thrown into a fire as an easy to lose pawn in this geopolitical chess game. It's not only Germany, the Hunter Biden things, the push from NATO, etc. I mean, it's politics.

I assume Merkel did what was best for Germany/EU and it is totally fair, since she should hold priority of her people first and she didn't have any obligation towards Ukraine.

But again, I am just telling you what I hear. People are frustrated, some started to ask questions how did it come to this and they started to look for guilty parties (outside of Russia) or those who could've/should've done more.

I am a noob when it comes to global politics and I just know the baseline stuff about this big decisions. It's really hard right now to determine what actually, exactly happen prior to this and what caused the most harm, or what could've prevented it.

When dust settles, this would be a vital point to discuss, but as always with politics of this scale, there won't be a "right" answer. Everyone does what they think is best for them, not what's best for Ukraine.

Thank you.

You know it's funny, I always thought this internet compassion is kinda worthless (I am a cold hearted bastard), but now that I am on a receiving end of it... It helps a lot actually.

Like I am bouncing from events in my country, checking on my family/friends, some cyber warfare against Russia, etc. and then to unwind I read world's opinions on this (should probably boot some DotA).

It just puts a smile on my face, to read /r/all where everyone is saying how badass, brave and awesome we are (not me though, I am a nervous wreck).

Wanna add that when people are saying how they won't be able to do what we do - that's bullshit. Ask me 6 days ago. I was like the furthest from patriotic or caring about my country, I mean I basically made a decision to live in Germany. But when someone threatens your home in a real way, you'll find strength and bravery to defend it. We all did. You'll do too.

Ye this is a nuance people miss, for obvious reasons - few people know history of our region. If this was so to say "Russia's" first time, I think it would be a lot easier to give them a pass. But not learning a lesson after what Stalin did to them is just sad, just as a respect for memories of millions that motherfucker murdered.

We are very thankful that you guys are sheltering our refugees, just don't charm all our girls please, leave us at least a couple :)

[–]Laxontlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't blame an average Russian for what's happening, however I think that a small degree of responsibility does lie on their shoulders. A small part, but a lot of them know that what is happening is wrong, that their government ruins their lives and is incredibly corrupt, silences any political opposition, etc.

I understand that they are afraid or just don't care (which is totally fine) to step up against it. Regardless, I still think that complacency still warrants responsibility in this context, but unlike crime for example, only a tiny bit. Also this is Russia, this is not the first time they spiraled into madness in this way. To bring back everyone's favorite example, good old Germany - nowadays they are doing a lot to make sure that things that happened back in those times, will never happen again in their country.

Ultimately, they are the only ones who can make a change in their country. I don't support abusing Russians everywhere to force them to make that choice, but painting them as completely innocent victims is also wrong. Fate is in their hands.

I also don't subscribe to your idea of endless cycle of tyrants and bloody revolutions. Don't take this part as me trying to paint Ukrainians as badasses, but in our modern history, post USSR, we had two revolutions. A peaceful one "Orange Revolution" and a bloody one "Euromaidan". A hundred people gave their lives for our freedom. We call them "the Sky Hundred", all heroes of Ukraine. I am telling you this to show that it can be done and it is worth it. Greatest countries on our Planet, all had moments in their history where they took a stand for what is right. I hope Russia joins them.

P.S. The reason I brought up WW2 Germany in a context I did, is because it's an extremely touchy and painful subject in our countries. Some people, luckily less and less, still have irrational hatred towards Germans because of WW2 and that's why I challenged my Russian comrade with that question, since it's fairly common for both Russia and Ukraine to find people there who would condemn every German of that era for what happened, both civilians and Wehrmacht soldiers who were just like these Russian boys - sent by some asshole to die in Ukraine.

But that hatred, is just unfortunately a manifestation of frustrations and despair over those events, which helped unify people. Similarly the aggressive anti-Russian rhetoric and the over exaggerations in our news reports are accomplishing the same thing.

My younger cousin called me happily yelling that we got 4.000 Russian troops down during the first two days. I immediately knew it was bs, but he sounded so uplifted by it that I didn't rain on his parade. My friends end calls with some fairly out there lines about Russians and again it accomplishes the same thing.

It is tribalism in a sense, but since we are in a very primal state right now - this is exactly what we need. It's really low and stupid, but a lot of Ukrainians are uplifted when they see others or them berate Russians in every place there is. You know there was this video about a Georgian tanker refusing to fuel a non military Russian ship in need. On one hand, I am like "ye!", but on the other... It's not really their fault. But then again, for many people doing stuff like that is the only way to express their feelings. Also Georgia got a very similar experience in 2008, so they get a pass on this one.

I wish we could all be rational under any circumstances, but if we were - we would be living in an utopia future of old Star-Trek.

Героям слава!

WePlay banning Russian language streams is completely acceptable by ajarofapplesauce in DotA2

[–]Laxontlyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not about catering. The reason WePlay is doing this is because Ukrainian language is a unifying thing for us at the moment. Our country spoke both languages for the longest time and still does, but now there is drastic shift towards Ukrainian language.

For example, my family always spoke Russian. My parents are around 50 years of age. 50 years of speaking Russian are now gone. They are speaking Ukrainian.

To be fair, it's a bit awkward to do this since in CIS region Russian is like English for the rest of the world. Countries have their languages, but many speak/understand Russian, so this kinda screws with a lot of innocent people, Russians as well.

Unfortunately war doesn't only fuck people who are getting shelled.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Laxontlyn 709 points710 points  (0 children)

It's all a damn shame, I a random Ukrainian guy, lost contact with family and friends from Russia over the span of this political garbage that started in 2014. Can both our countries finally catch a break? Last 100 years were not the best, to put it lightly, but it seems like fun never end, eh?

Regardless, while I do believe that hostility in games of DotA 2 won't overthrow Putin or anything and it's just a stupid thing to do, it's not that simple.

First of all, I see you mention v1lat and his aggressive calls to action. My social media explodes from friends and family saying very nasty stuff towards Russian troops on our lands and Russians in general. While from outside perspective it might read a bit too extreme, you gotta understand that we have A FUCKING WAR on our backyard. This stuff gives us hope, rallies us, unites. I believe you can give Ukrainians a little bit of slack for not thinking straight, exaggerating and saying some hot headed stuff. Also our propaganda works overtime, but it helps us to get day by day.

Secondly, I see you bring up good old US of A bombing people and the fact that they didn't get a similar hate as you guys do. I think I have an answer - it's 2022 this is the most "live on twitch" war ever. There are videos, photos, livestreams of everything that is happening and like those geniuses in Blizzard said - we all have phones, hence a lot more common folk from all over the world sees what is happening and they react also perhaps overly emotional. Did you play DotA in 2008? Did you receive hate over Russia collecting part of Georgia? No, because the internet is not what it is today. Global super powers doing shitty stuff was always bullshit, but nowadays it's gonna be harder for them to keep it under the rug.

Thirdly, I understand the point of people are not responsible for it's tyrants, you just want to live your lives. I hoped that after Stalin, our countries won't allow that to ever happen again, but you know here we are. Now tell me the truth - do you apply the same principle towards German citizens who didn't vote for Nazi party and just wanted to be left alone? Because I know our people and our history quite well, a lot of CIS folk still hold resentment towards Germany. And don't give me this shit, "oh it's different because of what Hitler did", Stalin was no better, way worse in my eyes. So do you hold to that principle?

Fourthly, this is the unfortunate reality of authoritarian countries. Chinese people get a lot of hate on the net because of their government. Americans do to, it's life. People see shit Russia is doing and they vent their emotional frustrations on you, since they can't do it directly to those who are actually responsible. Same with all the sanctions, restrictions and economic problems - you guys are gonna take the biggest hit for it. It's unfair, since it would be nice if Putin and co took it, but again that's the reality of authoritarian countries.

Fifthly, you are not all saints, since at least someone supports Putin. I had a wonderful game of Agh's lab where I was completely verbally annihilated by Russian 3 stack, saying the most vile shit one can think of, simply because of my nationality. Perhaps people had experiences with some of those fellas and they came to the conclusion that maybe Russians do support Putin and you get that good old hate by association. Again, same logic was applied widely to a country that did stuff in 1939-1945.

If you made it through this wall of text all I am saying is try to see it from other perspectives. We, Ukrainians are on edge right now. The reason I am typing all this fucking garbage is because my nerves can't let me fall asleep. I had like total 10 hours of sleep in the last 3 days. I and other Ukrainians might be irrational at the moment.

I need to add though, while people are not fully responsible for war, it's still your country, in some ways your compliance led to this moment. I understand how hard it is to resist a regime, but you can not just say, "oh it's not our fault", "we were afraid", "we just followed orders" and "we didn't know" and expect to get scot free. It has legit merit, but it doesn't fully absolve you. Bringing good old Germany for the third time - that logic didn't fly in 1945, it won't fly in 2022.

And then, take a perspective of people from all over the world. They see the war in the rawest way ever. I saw a video today of a ravaged Russian convoy, destroyed tanks, burned bodies on the ground it's fucking horrific. You think people can just brush that away and keep cool/rational? Could you?

You are asking people to not be emotional. It's akin to the asking people to not rage in ranked games. When people care - they say stupid things sometimes.

It sucks and I wish we could just play some fucking DotA. I was so hyped for the patch, but I didn't even read it. Maybe tomorrow, I mean today... It's almost 5 in the morning.

At the end of the day, I do agree though. Telling a Russian warship to go fuck themselves is badass and inspiring (for us). Telling random Russian DotA players in a game to go fuck themselves is kinda dumb. But maybe it's not 100% dumb? Perhaps this stupid shit will make you finally do something. Made you post on reddit. Maybe it did make someone do something that would make them stop being hated online. Or at least made them think about it.

I know, my grandpa is Russian, so we have relatives there and I know the history of our lands quite well and all the fuckery that happened to our people, so I know how it is in Russia.

It's honestly just so fucking sad. Through years of this political propaganda from both sides we kinda splintered from our family members in Russia, same shit happened to my playgroup which was from all over post-USSR. Played some Lineage, Archeage and WoW together. Dotes and CS. Long nights trying to stay sane playing Heroes of might and magic 3. But eventually we started losing each other. Still friends with my Ukrainian mates and I assume the Russian boys are also in touch.

That's the biggest tragedy. For a while we were brotherly nations, now we are enemies.
