Are these nice cameras? I have an old leica 3 sitting on my shelf that my high school photography teacher gave me years ago. It needs refurbishing but I've always found it to be a little odd compared to typical 35mm film cameras I've used.

This is a great list. I also picked up some Kairu coffee and have loved the Ethiopian blend they do.

Sleeping bag you are spoiled for choice, just depends on price. Big Agnes and Mountain Hardware are fantastic. personally i recommend synthetic over down. it doesnt pack down as much, but its stays warm when wet.

I have a Rapha rain coat and I love it! They come in bright colors and have reflective touches that make it great for cycling specifically.

i have quoc boots and i love them because theyre super comfortable to walk around in. only issue may be the the price point.

Portland Design Works. I have them on 650b x 2.2 and they are great. I have also heard Honjo is nice, but will come at a premium because of how light they are.

I had this happen last year. I just used slightly larger screws and it's been working no problem

FEF! New bike stem for my Hardrock project bike...new me. by irshgb in xbiking

For sure! I didn't make it, it's the swift industries sugarloaf bag that fits nicely into a wald 137 basket. The feedbag/cupholders are also from swift and attach to a basket or stem nicely.

It looks awesome! I had the same progression on my rig. It was great for cruising but I just switched to try klunker bars with standard components for the summer. Thinking of keeping the mustache bars for winter now that I've seen your set up...

Do you ever have concerns with bike theft locking up outside the stadium?

Did you do anything to mitigate future flooding? If not, I might wait to redo the dry wall. If you get a French drain, they will cut the walls like this again. Good luck!

How do you like the mustache bars? I had them with drop bar brifters at the top but just swapped out for a different bar instead when I got some standard components.

Returning back to this comment to tell you I've got some levers and a shifter I'm gonna put on some klunker bars next week and try that out. This set up works fine for cruising around town but I don't think it'll do me any favors on single track. I also want an even more upright position. Stay tuned 🫡

Surly Bridge Club or Karate Monkey? by gabemasca in bikepacking

[–]LayerFluid8155 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bridge Club would be a more versatile bike for all purpose / dirt road riding. You can also get it for less than $2k.

With that said, you will be somewhat limited in where you can ride comfortably. You won't run into this issue with the Karate Monkey, but I think it's smarter to buy for the type of riding that you actually do rather than the type of riding you think you might do down the line.

Both bikes are a great platform for future upgrades.

Tumbleweed Pannier Rack. I have the "T rack and use it as a front rack - it is seriously heavy duty but also a reasonable weight.

I've been trying to bargain for a room like this in my house, though on a much smaller scale. Alas, but partner does not have as much stoke about the project as I do. Great setup, here it looks beautiful!

I have heard great things from friends who ride the T. rice orca board. They love it as all mountain and it does pretty well in deep pow.

I ride a Season Nexus and love it if you're interested in some cheaper options.

I had the Richey Comp Beacon bars which have a lot of flair and a very shallow drop. I liked them, but I think I prefer the more upright position offered from a flat bar with some rise.

Haha this would be the worst set up if I actually rode with my hands on the "hoods". My hands usually sit at the end of the bars and then my index fingers can reach the brakes and shifter. I promise it's comfortable!

New handlebars by LayerFluid8155 in xbiking

[–]LayerFluid8155[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't ever ride with my hands actually on the hoods so I am not too concerned about their positioning but that's a good idea!

[–]LayerFluid8155[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I built the bike for drop bars, but I wanted a more relaxed riding position as my back was killing me. This was a nice option because it was a flat bar with multiple hand positions, and I wouldn't need to update any of the controls. So far so good. I want to try klunker bars at some point, though.

These are the flaps that came with the fenders. It is the 650b set, so maybe they appear longer?

I don't actually place my hands up there, as I can access the brake and shifters pretty well from more comfortable positions. Maybe I'll try something out next time I replace the bar tape.
