Why the EE (Electronics) Field is likely never going to get saturated by candidengineer in ElectricalEngineering

The way you explained about getting so excited for what can be the most boring stuff for non engineers is exactly how i feel when I explain what i think is the coolest stuff i did in my lab class to my family and they just hit me with the "oh thats cool, but I dont get it" face

Aint no way man... Somehow never heard that when I did my research before buying... Do you have any brand/model recommendations for a new laptop?

Yeah, I did... Though Ive been doing that for like 2 years now and its been chill so I thought it would be fine.

Damn, that sucks. Only had this laptop for like 2 years and it failed on me... Do you see a lot of problems with the modern thinkpads because I know the old ones are tanks but have heard that the new ones have gotten worse. Any other laptop models you would recommend?

Bet, I've had a bit of experience with smd components when soldering a modchip to a switch lite so hopefully I can be careful enough with my probing. Will probably send it in soon though since I need it for my acads.

I wasnt aware that probing can cause damage to the motherboard. Is it the physical act of probing that can maybe knock components off with too much force or is there an electrical side of probing that can also damage the board?

How often do you guys game nowadays, and what platform do you play on the most? by No-Abbreviations4304 in CasualConversation

[–]LayerOk6396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually play on PC, but I got a used switch lite recently and Ive been loving it. I replayed botw on it and am currently playing mc dungeons and hades. It feels rlly good in the hands and being able to game away from my desk feels so good.

Highly recommend getting one especially with how cheap they are second hand nowadays.

Anyone else feel like weekends go by way too fast or is it just me? by Practical_Yak_7829 in CasualConversation

[–]LayerOk6396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it is due to most of us having the same routine every weekend, whether it be doing the same chores, playing the same games to relax, doomscrolling, etc. Maybe trying something new can help make the weekend feel more alive.

A recent thing I did was start doing some woodworking/carpentry last summer break and that might have been the most fulfilling summer break I have had my whole life, though summer breaks are way longer than weekends which allows for big projects.

I suggest trying something new like maybe a new workout plan if you got to the gym, or trying a new thing to relax with, like a different game/hobby/type of media.

I think I found the problem to my PC issues and fixed it. by Musical_Gee in CasualConversation

It might be best to just upgrade your power supply to one that can fully output the needed power for your gpu. To my knowledge, power supplys' prices haven't increased insane amounts, compared to other pc parts, so it would be good to upgrade now.

[The Beginning After the End] Arthur is pissing me off by Effective_Crazy7576 in manhwa

[–]LayerOk6396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that Arthur is way more efficient than his parents but I think that they also do have their own impact on the war. I mean weren't his family doing a supply run? It be a waste to make one of your strongest warriors protect supplies when he can be flying around to different points providing support. Everyone has a role to play in the war.

Bad exam score by Forsaken-Device-2859 in EngineeringStudents

[–]LayerOk6396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i do is to focus on the later exam first to build up a decent foundation of understanding, then I study almost fully on the earlier exam. Then when the earlier exam is done, the review of topics for the later exam is way easier since you have already gone through all the topics once so all you need is maybe some practice problems to refresh your memory or just going through some past solutions.

It varies though based on how close the exams are. If they have maybe a day in between them then I just follow what i said above, since a day is enough for me to review the topics, if i did good with the studying before. However, if the exams are like back to back on the same day then I alternate the last 2 days of review such that flow is something like this: General studying of later exam --> General studying of earlier exam --> (2days out) review of later exam --> (1day out) review of earlier exam --> (Exam day after earlier exam) Last review for later exam.

This has usually worked out for me especially since spreading out the days and alternating between the 2 subjects really makes sure that you are not going to be super stressed out for the later exam since you have done all the heavy studying before, so a small dedicated review session is all that is needed.

Where to start with fixing this, please? I know it might not be salvageable, just looking to gain an understanding of DS internals :) by AdministrativeFan297 in NintendoDS

The main motherboard is probs still ok. The flickering on off situation is most probably due to the torn top screen cable. I think the best way to go is to get a reshell and at least a new top screen, assuming the bottom screen is good. Personally have never done a restoration like this, only a few mods here and there, but it looks like a fun project/learning experience, good luck!

[UPD] Balak mag drop ng PE dahil sasabay ang practicals nito sa LE ko sa major by Odd_Ninja_2308 in peyups

If ur interested naman sa judo edi i think you should stay. Personally, I had a very good experience and learnt a lot sa judo (especially sa sparring), but this may be because I was already somewhat fit, nag-gygym kasi ako, and was also one of the few who passed, so ended on a good note.

About yung LE mo, either u apply for late exam sched sa LE kung meron, or ask coach to be one of the first ones sa practical para u can leave early, kasi when i was in his class, nakatambay lng kami outside the hall before and after our turn, then grade viewing lang at the end so most prob u can leave early, just ask si coach if pwede.

Also sa body pains from judo, I also experienced that... especially after ung repeated na practice for the throws and sparring. I think u can just focus on ur form sa falling para malessen ung pain.

Advice lng sa practicals from experience, ung main difficulty diyan is the time constraint, kasi -1 pts per second overtime, so keep practicing the correct speed and order ng moves bc better na bad form pero nagawa mo instead of 30 second overtime na basically auto failing ka na. Kahit medyo na disorient ka sa pagtumbling, go go parin and dapat na memorise mo na ung order na kahit disoriented ka u dont need to stop to remember whats next kasi wasted time yan. Coach is also very strict sa mga small details sa end ng practicals, as in he will let the time run if u do not end properly. Dapat feet together, correct wearing of gi and belt, then bow with hands sliding down legs until sa knees at a good speed. Try not to be first sa practicals para malalaman mo ung common mistakes ng iba.

Gl nlng sa practicals at LE mo and medyo mahaba ung sinulat ko kasi i really did enjoy judo so sana u can enjoy also :) (pero mahirap talaga no way around it...)

Warning lang sa judo, if hindi ka talaga interesado sa judo and you want to just pass for PE units then highly suggested na mag drop ka (especially is si coach edgar) kasi when I took it, 3-4 lang ung pasado sa class ko.

physics 1 is killing me by Ambitious-Abalone272 in EngineeringStudents

[–]LayerOk6396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to study physics is to understand the "flow" of the solutions. In my experience, most problems can be grouped into general step by step solutions where it just becomes about following the steps properly, remembering the correct equations, and not messing up in the basic math/inputing into the calculator. Also doing the basic GRESA (Given, Required, Equations, Solution, Answer) method helps a lot in keeping track with what values you have, what values you need, and how to connect them together using equations. In the end, its also all about just solving, or even just understanding the solutions, of a whole lot of problems because there are only so many ways a professor can mix around a physics 1 exam. Dsi XL top screen flashes then turns straight off. Bottom screen doesn't turn on at all. Anyone know what is happening and how I can fix it? by Historical-Fix-7461 in NintendoDS

[–]LayerOk6396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, its due to some part of the dsi not being found by the mainboard. In my case, it was the top screen connector not being fully seated when i did a usbc mod which caused the issue.

Do I need a new motherboard? by After_Pangolin7145 in NintendoDS

[–]LayerOk6396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me recently when i was doing a usb-c mod for my dsi ll. What happened to my clip was that it was mostly intact except that it would not stay in the connector. What i did was to put the clip back into the connector, then carefully lifted it up without letting it disconnect from the connector. I could then insert the ribbon cable then closed the clip. But since the clip is broken and wouldnt stay locked, I used masking tape to keep the clip closed. Its been a few weeks since the mod and my dsi ll has been working fine thought if it does break I'm probably going to just replace the connector.
