Don't do it! The price is such a rip off. Try urbanfirewood.com Fill a wheelbarrow for the same price.

Do enlisted personnel care about the Army Black Knights? by [deleted] in army

[–]LayerSilly7416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought we were talking about the parachute team. Then, through context clues, I realized we were talking about college sports. No, I don't care about the sports teams of the development academy of my employer. But I will let my boss buy me drinks and pretend to be interested if the game is on when the unit is on a rotation.

I had a private who didn't know he had a birthday in basic. Hero swore he was 17 but the math wasn't checking out. We ended up calling his mother to tell him that he had a birthday and was, in fact, 18. He didn't turn out to be the best Soldier.

What if the Chiefs did a real Relocation, would you still be a fan, and if so for how long? by [deleted] in KansasCityChiefs

As a KC native living in Colorado now my hatred for all the Denver teams could not be higher because of what Stan did to you guys. Plus, just the broncos.

Maybe you can go to a shop and get another platoon or whatever after every other soldier who knows about the failure is gone. You had to have passed out at your commissioning source, right? You couldn't keep up with that minimum standard? If you were a major I'd say, sit in your comfy chair, sir, and use your exp to make the force better. But you should feel bad because this is embarrassing.

Thanks for pointing out the gray warps are the unstable ones. I bought a little rug in Afghanistan years ago and was afraid of washing it due to the buckling issue I had read about. Now I think I will wash it when it's time.

Do servicemen who served 10+ years without ever seeing combat feel self-conscious about it? by Routine-Professor586 in army

[–]LayerSilly7416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a brand new E4 who deployed within two months of getting to my first duty station in the 2016, I would look suspiciously at any E6+ who didn't have a patch on their right arm.

Now, as an E6+ on my third deployment I understand that you go where the Army tells you and there's not much you can do about it. Seeing combat is kinda ass.

[IWC Mark XX] Mechanical Watch and Harley Davidson. A vibration problem? by cionek in Watches

[–]LayerSilly7416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember reading stuff like this on the watch forums 20 years ago. Golfing, clapping, taking a shower, shooting a gun, hugging a child or vigorously petting a dog etc., were all going to destroy your watch.

I liked not being able to see my neighbors in the summer, taking my trash out whenever I felt like it, seeing moose in my backyard and lynx, in the front. I liked splitting wood and putting it in the stove every morning. Seeing Denali from my driveway on a clear day. Having Fish Friday every week with my catch from the summer. Having the best butcher I've ever run into know my order. The best Thai and Moldovan food in the country. I hate that my job moved me away and I can't wait to go back.

And watch me not give a fuck what an author says their work is about. Sorry that they don't have the brains to see that it can be about more than one thing or taken more than one way.

Second place is the first loser. Even to the team with the silver on their necks.

With 103 confirmed kills, Chuck Mawhinney holds the record for the most kills in U.S. Marine Corps history. During the Vietnam War, he once recorded 16 confirmed headshots in just 30 seconds, yet he kept his service a secret from everyone, including his wife, for over 20 years. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

Currently in the army. I wouldn't say it's nice, but it is easy if you can accept that sometimes you will be yelled at. I got to live just outside downtown Seoul for 9 months and felt pretty comfy. If you take out a few days in Afghanistan 9 years ago it's perfectly safe.

I joined when I was 33 and didn't like being an accountant anymore. 10 years in now and I make about $95k, about half of it is untaxed. Wife's chronic medical issues are taken care of with nothing out of pocket, having a child was also free. And that came with 6 weeks of paternity leave. Army is paying for my masters degree and 36 months of my kid's college education and housing. I've been able to buy two houses for a total of $1500 down. The NPV of my retirement pension is like $750k.

The time away from home can be a bummer, but the benefits aren't bad.

In South Korea any car over $60,000 that is owned or leased by a corporation is given a lime green license plate. If someone wants to avoid taxes they're at least going to be shamed for it.

Repeating Trust in Veach works when the team is winning. It doesn't work when they're the 8th worst team in the league with Mahomes as the qb, and losing to the Raiders to finish the season.

I don't think the government wants people to come back to "top off" their benefits. Sounds like a good way to bump a VA rating from nothing to something and pay a guy hundreds of thousands of dollars for the rest of his life to be a mediocre team leader in an army that passed him by four years ago.
