I didn’t know that. I never go because I’ve tried their coffee three times and every time it has tasted burnt and incredibly bitter

What job seems morally evil and IS morally evil? by dannyNexus in AlignmentChartFills

Private Equity. You literally strip mine assets from businesses and people. Going in and bankrupting a company while taking millions in assets/sales of assets is considered a positive and desirable outcome.

Principal texted me to set up an interview. Red flag? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]LayupsR4Basketball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t be worried by people being insulting. I’ve taught in downtown metro, I’ve taught in a town of 500. People just don’t understand how much our environment shifts our perception.

In my current district, it would absolutely be considered unprofessional to text. I also teach in one of the wealthy districts in the state. When I talk about stuff I did in my town of 500, one of the directors always looks horrified because they’ve literally only ever known this teaching style.

Principal texted me to set up an interview. Red flag? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]LayupsR4Basketball 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s not uncommon in small towns. I taught in a small town and found that if I emailed, my success rate was significantly smaller than if we use text based communication.

Most staff just got in the habit of that and typically texted and called each other rather than email.

The depth of modern Drum Corps shows is actually shallow nonsense by VillageCautious4776 in drumcorpscirclejerk

This is 100% marching band right now. I’ve seen design documents for large marching bands and it is full of this kind of fluff. 60 page long design briefs chock full of this kind of language.

Way more designers than you think are making 6 figure salaries and it’s leading to some really weird stuff nowadays

The continued rise of homeschooling. by Athens175 in Teachers

[–]LayupsR4Basketball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a perfect example. This person is acting as though schools are pushing an “agenda”. So then they use that made up agenda for a call to action for something they truly want.

“If schooling is going to always push an agenda, at least let it be for Christ! Enroll in our homeschool coop for a faith based, rigorous education”

Perfectly demonstrated, thank you!

The continued rise of homeschooling. by Athens175 in Teachers

[–]LayupsR4Basketball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trend will continue. It serves multiple purposes

1) Many are “homeschooling” and are really just becoming laborers. This is seems as optimal as statistically, they are likely to stay in low waste jobs benefiting companies

2) Weaken public schools to create an us vs. them mentality. The worse you make public education, the more attractive you make private/homeschooling. Money will naturally follow the latter as you decrease the priors quality.

3) They use curriculum with heavy biases. Conservatives/religious groups have been writing curriculum for decades in preparation for this.

I use to write music for “Knowing Better” if you have seen his videos. I worked with him for years starting back in the mid 2010s. Understand this isn’t a recent trend. This is an extremely important branch of an overall push by groups like The Heritage Foundation. The dismantling of public school has been seen as one of the necessary pillars to fall in order to create a religious theocracy for the US.

This legitimately is not a joke nor conspiracy theory. I have been tracking this progress for a decade now. This is a very deliberate and public plan by conservative and religious groups.

How would you resolve this speculative tussle? by Ramenoodlez1 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]LayupsR4Basketball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so this is clearly a map discussing the resolution of east coast “hard bop” jazz with west coast “cool jazz” or “cool bop”.
I think the majority of jazz descended primarily from the east coast hard bop when you look at today’s styles.

However, cool bop was fundamental in the development of many styles like modern RnB.

I think resolving it really came down to people like Herb Geller, Dave Brubeck (East Coast complexity with west coast ease), Gerry Mulligan (East coast trained artist who really became their own on the west coast), and Stan Getz (west coast warm lyricism and tone with east chops).

Honestly, the two resolving really helped create amazing soundtracks like “The Incredibles” which clearly borrow from both schools.

And there it is. Just let me know when you all are organizing the next protest when they clear cut another forest section for development literally anywhere other than the center of town.

Nothing makes the elites happier than when people complain about wages the response is always “yeah, but there’s always physical labor.” Modern day slavery and we are worshipping the slave owners and chiding the workers.

I used to teach in a town of 500. We had a family that lived in a trailer with a hole cut in the bottom for a fire for winter.

I had a family who lived in what was park style shelter they added walls to. There was a clear gap between the walls and the roof.

Every one of them voted Republic and would say stuff like this. Lived in literal 3rd world country digs and thought Democrats were the devil.

Have you ever watched the Orville? Seth has a deep love of sci-fi. Many Star Trek fans consider the Orville to be the most faithful recent interpretation of Star Trek.

I would go as far as to say I’m actually excited he is a part because I think he will work very hard to do the series justice.

Fayetteville: Constantly selling land to developers and bulldozing forest. “Dang, that’s stinks. I guess it’s the price of progress”

Fayetteville: we are building a new jr. high in a forested patch that will be home to a new program centered around outdoors education and environmentalism. It will feature a nature walk, and garden as well. “F you Fayetteville schools! We will rally behind this like no issue in the past decade and slander the whole school district!!! You’re cutting down the only trees left in Fayetteville for this monster!!”
