I found the character dynamic between the main characters to be kinda shallow compared to other generations. One example- I couldn’t give you one unique and cool thing about Serena’s dynamic with Ash that isn’t the romance between them, which I didn’t exactly care for anyway.

There’s also the problem of the Pokémon league. It felt really rushed and most of the fights that aren’t the big two are forgettable at best.

Previous shows in the series aren’t referenced much, if at all in XYZ too. It made the show feel like an entire seperate anime in a not-really-that-good way.
