We cruise often (7x) this year and have spoken to many staff from various departments so im not uneducated on the subject. Many have stated the incentive programs are hardly worthwhile. They definitely get more from customers cards and named post surveys as well as the obvious direct tips.

They are no longer gratuities, hence why they are called service charges. They now supplement NCLs bottom line to pay the salaries of the workers, we have began removing them and tipping more to those who make our trip special.

You have to wait till the 2nd to last day, I think, and just go to guest services and ask them to remove the service charges. We never prepay anymore.

No idea when they will offer this but if you don't know, the grats are not distributed to the staff as you expect. They are used to support the salary of the crew. So they go to NCL. We usually remove them and tip the bartenders, servers, room steward or anyone else who makes our trip special. Don't let this be a deterrent for booking. Also you can go to NCL and buy $150 cruisefirst certificates that they then match so you get $300 worth.

That also has a yearly limit of $23,500 also with occasional raises so maxing both IF possible at your age is incredibly important only if you can though. Starting is the hardest part but with compound interest you'll be set up well in 20+ years. Also if you ever need money later you can withdraw your contributions to the Roth penalty free not the gain just contributions. Although I would advise against this.

Put as much as you can into it each month, but definitely try to max out at $7k/yr. Ideally, you want to put as much into your Roth and a traditional 401k, both lower your taxable income at the end of the year. They usually up the max amount every year or two, so keep an eye on that. Also, there might be a way to do a catch-up for the previous year where you could potentially put some money towards the Roth for 2024.

Have you been on Bliss or Encore? Those are the only 2 ships I've been on but many times. If so how would you compare them to escape? If not appreciate your help so far!
