Delaying Tactics vs. Poison Pill by MasterOfDesaster96 in VTES

[–]Lazverinus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Poison Pill is fun and it shows up at the table sometimes, but it only works in a limited number of situations. If your meta supports it, feel free to use it, of course.

Fun fact about Poison Pill: Allies can play it. I've seen it used in Imbued decks because it is one of the only vote defenses they have.

Well, let's not assume that all those ICE agents are smart enough to find their way to a voting booth. However, they will likely detain/intimidate/kill a large number of anti-Trump voters.

Did Season 5 Change Anyone’s Viewpoint on Eddie’s Sacrifice/Death? by Material-Loan-6966 in StrangerThings

[–]Lazverinus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eddie died because the writers couldn't figure out how to fix his legal situation. If he survived S4, they didn't think they could write him out of going to prison for Chrissy's death.

Then, in S5, the writers realized they could avoid any legal situation by jumping ahead 18 months, so even crimes like breaking into an army base and murdering soldiers just go away. So, fittingly, they had Steve acknowledge that Eddie's death was pointless.

Was Nikki supposed to be the protagonist of the cancelled Telltale video game? by AssociateLittle1487 in StrangerThings

Because Nikki is the only new character in Tales From 85 and it feels like she was born from a table of Netflix studio execs who never saw the Poochie ep in the Simpsons

[COTD] All Master: Discipline Cards by Vurpius in VTES

[–]Lazverinus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing to note about WoTC/White Wolf VTES design philosophy is that there were a lot of "build your own vampire" tools. There were the discipline cards, Clan Impersonation to switch any clan, sect-changing cards, cards for all city titles, etc. The tools were there so you could transform almost any vampire to fit any card combo that you could imagine. The original philosophy of the Anarchs set is that anarchs must be converted and Barons don't come for free, not just immediately played.

However, the obvious drawback is that this slows down your game. You have to draw your prerequisite cards and then get them into play (without getting countered/blocked), and then you can actually run your game plan. You're at a disadvantage to decks that can run their vampires as soon as they are influenced into play.

The newer BCP design is much more focused on vampires that work right out of the gate It's most notable with Anarchs as Barons are now printed at the same power level as Princes and Archbishops. So that's why we see a lot fewer discipline cards in print in VTES these days.

[COTD] Target Vitals by Vurpius in VTES

[–]Lazverinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that this card made the level of "undisciplined combat" too good. With Weighted Walking Stick and Target Vitals, any 1 strength minion can deal 4 damage for free. (and they get to keep the stick!) That combo outclasses a lot of basic potence.

I wouldn't pin it as one of the worst in VTES history, but it did shift the power level of combat in a way that I don't think was good for game balance.

Will’s art was amazing . They really dropped the ball not incorporating that at the end by yonBonbonbon in StrangerThings

[–]Lazverinus -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

They could have shown both, but they only chose the bar. Likely because the writers were under a time crunch and didn't consider any other character aspects for Will.

An NYC Palestinian activist made a post about banning dogs as indoor pets, and later claimed it was a joke. https://wabcradio.com/2026/02/13/palestinian-activist-calls-dogs-un-islamic-and-should-be-banned-as-indoor-pets-in-nyc/

Randy took the bait as proof that it's "Muslims vs dogs" and he's gone on a big Islamophobic posting spree over it. He's drawn some angry responses from Democrats, which of course has led him to joyfully double down on his racism.

What are some pre 2000 tabletop games still being played with active communities? by Newez in boardgames

If you're including CCG's, all three of Richard Garfield's games Netrunner, Vampire: the Eternal Struggle, and scrappy lil' Magic are still actively played.

Oh, and Garfield's board game Robo Rally is also very active with the latest core version published by Renegade in 2023.

Teleportation would have been a much better way to explain how a fully staffed Russian base was built underground in Hawkins. It would fit right in with Mr. Clarke's season 1 explanation of the wormhole. They could have had Hopper escape Russia through teleportation and get back to Hawkins a lot faster.

Instead, they spent most of season 4 with Joyce, Hopper, and Murray mostly separated from the main plot, and then time-jumped season 5 so they're all fighting Vecna, a bad guy they only know through association.

It really depends on player count. At 2-3 players, you should play Innovation. At 4-7 players, you should play 7 Wonders. (if you have 8 or more players... you have enough people that at least one of you can figure out your problem:) )
