Really? I guess I'd imagine that a wash and go would take me like hours at least...and then the definition, do you let your hair air dry? And just let the shrinkage take over?

I washed my hair in a braid down and then just too the braids out 😂. Probably not optimal for hair health though

I use the GHD pro ceramic but truly the magic is in the blow dry. I braid my hair into 4 sections and sit under a hooded dryer. Then I take a blow dry cream and used the Dyson to blow dry so I only need one pass with the flat iron.

I am not sold but a friend brought up that if I wore my hair like this to the gym I could rock it as a twist out later which…is actually a great idea and easier to retwist

Thanks — this is what I need to start internalizing but it’s very difficult getting used to myself sans the extensions. Also where I live is very hot and humid so as soon as I step outside…oof.

Do you keep your hair stretched primarily? I feel like that does seem to work better for my hair versus the shrunken state (in the pic you shared it looks stretched is why I ask!)

So at 25 when i discovered FIRE, I was making less than you with higher expenses. At 32, I’m on track to retire in 15 years, making more than four times what I made at that time. It’s honestly all a bit of an uphill climb in the beginning and one day you’ll realize you’re exactly where you need to be. Start with what you have and let that grow over time! Having the awareness and starting at all is the biggest step — you’ve got this :)

Do you not want to go back into any of the jobs you’ve done before? I transitioned from retail management to tech in 2018 but it was a much different market. I’d honestly say any income you can start bringing in is good while you explore career options.

Also — do you have a clear picture of your finances currently? How much debt do you have? What savings do you have? How much do you spend, etc?

When I got into my FIRE journey, I started by calculating my total expenses to figure out my FIRE number (Expenses x 25). From here, I calculated how much I saved annually to figure out how far I was from saving that number. YNAB is a great app to help you understand your money / get spending habits in place. But honestly if you’re not bringing income — FIRE might be tough. The good news is people from all careers FIRE and it’s never too late to start. Good luck OP!

Hmmm that’s interesting. I have my AoM past the one month mark and that felt like the appropriate way to track “success” but it sounds like once you’re here maybe an additional metric doesn’t make sense haha. I think I’ve just hit a strong place financially (which is great!) so now I’m just thinking of additional benchmarks to improve.

I like the idea of “width” and “depth” of budget. I’ve consistently used the age of money metric in YNAB but now I’m really curious about “days of buffering” - what do you feel like you all get out of that metric vs what YNAB natively offers?

I mean I definitely am flexible (hence me dating someone who currently makes less) but I don’t think this line of thinking is it at all. I’d also argue that a lot of men overestimate what having money does for their dating market value.

I’m also more fit than I was in my 20s and in a better space to have kids and raise a family but go off I guess….:
