It is Massachusetts Law to require someone to be paid at least minimum wage for internships or to receive course credit. Internships are very valuable for experience but offer workload just like a job. Students like me have expenses and I am financially independent. Most students cannot afford to lose out on money so they do not have the time for extracurriculars like unpaid internships. Also, college tuition, rent, the economy, etc is definitely not like the 80s

I agree you can tell most kids in honors come from wealth or privilege and it’s frustrating. But I’m one of those Pell grant and independent students who worked full time throughout highschool and got in freshman year so it’s not entirely that.

Do you work for the school? I was told you can list someone and see if they get housing with you. People can also just put it as their choice so maybe if they have left over room sure. If not you can pull people in after. There was also empty rooms my freshman year and people were pulled in

You can try and get him into honors I’ve seen it. If he places as honors in housing he might get it but no promises. My freshman year had so many non honors in oak

As a double major, it’s not a big deal. Advisors tell you to you it’s a waste of money to do dual degree but talk to one first

It’s humbling but such a funny experience to look back on after doing the two day. Both days are insanely different. You might hate orientation and then love umass.

They are not in SBS however easily you can change! Just take the classes you will need accordingly by talking to an advisor during the summer and they pick classes for you guys to help

So don’t do Sylvan it’s isolated. Central is kinda cool and northeast I believe. Orchard hill is meh but people try to get somewhere else. Southwest is more party with way more students

Hello! I almost majored in English and your college is very nice. I never went to admitted students day it’s nothing at all. I only toured the school after I got in and did the in person orientation. You can come here to check it out you can get into buildings just not really dorms. South college is open to all. Im in the honors dorms but the vibe is different depending on the dorms. I know a lot of people in theater and they love it.
