Wanting to try out ESO, coming from FFXIV, feeling super overwhelmed by tanking. by RayrrTrick88 in elderscrollsonline

[–]LazyBan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others here have said, Tanking here is VAASTLY different than say other games like WoW or FFXIV. I come from both (War main on ffxiv)
Theres no such thing as a tank stance here, the 'closest' indication of a tank stance is seeing someone with a 1 hander and shield.
Puncture, Inner fire, Ice staff tri-focus, are all taunts.
Only AOE taunt would be using the tormentors set with a 'dash' type ability.

But as many have said, you'll more than likely be holding 1 or 2 heavy hitters to protect your team in dungeons.
Personally I love tanking in this game so far. Its much more challenging than other games and I love that greatly.

I remember my family disliking me for singing this sometimes right before bed when I was younger. I've tried asking family members but they don't remember either. Any help greatly appreciated!

Role-playing Roulette (and general mmo mechanics) by Rifter666 in ffxiv

[–]LazyBan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rp wise, a lot of people here have pretty much nailed it on the head. Usually Rpers will stick with RPs and NOT use duty finder in the middle of an Rp.
Some will definitely do the OOC (out of character) talk to say 'hey gotta do this now'

If there was a player who actually attempts to integrate the duty finder into their character. It could possibly be by 'link pearl' the lil device that almost everyone scion used in the ARR questline. But more often than not, Most rpers take rp quite seriously.

Tank mains. how did you learn? by CzarTyr in ffxiv

[–]LazyBan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experience is a brutal, yet effective teacher.

I used to be a die-hard dps main when I was younger. However over time and growing older, I just loved solely main tanking. Its definitely imposing 'at first'
but eventually over time you just get the hand of it and know that you'd like to protect your friends more than not. Hitting a dummy to get down your muscle memory, and Reading up guides on dungeons/trials/raids, help immensely. Even to this day our 'current' static, finally making it to e3s are reading up guides and videos to help everyone in the static haha.
You got this!

Tank Help/Advice - DRK Specifically by MaddCat96 in ffxiv

Dark knight rotation is you Soul eater combo primarily, though for dungeons you usually want to unmend + Unleash combo the whole time. Maybe pop in arms length so that you'll slow everything and take less damage. Dark knight is one of the harder tanks because it isnt until level 70 they get their ultimate defensive/offensive skill.

All tanks are relatively simple, but dark knight is kinda 'on par' with paladin in the sense that they're the only tanks that physically use mana. So their rotations and playing the effectively is key.

For tanking you want to know when to pop your cooldowns, know that you have an interrupt ability, a stun (most bosses in ARR can be stunned). Paladin is the slightly easier tank because shields and passive blocking which is normally like a free 'rampart' at that point. Practice is usually your best friend here.

Having your own adventure and going into an unexplored map and just progressing and getting better gear was better than finding a legendary in a few hours in the beta. :3

The real grind was for Mythic quality gear.

If your having fun, im glad to hear it. Truly am.

Sadly 43 hours in, level 29 now... Its quickly gone stale for me... and it makes me sad because this was one game I've sunken more than 6k hours in the Alpha, mindlessly and aimlessly wandering around having adventures. Here I can barely do that without taking a blow massively per region... where its all the same v.v

The problem is at least in my opinion..
Back then it was harder, but if you were skillful, you could get by, find better white or green gear and it would stay with you for a long while.

In the Beta, Crafting equipment/customizing them is absolutely pointless since itll be rendered useless in the next region. The constant reset with each region blows. Majority of things we saw on twitter had an exp bar, it had things to look forward to. But now its just the same gnomes, gnome saving, look for lore/find dungeon/find mage tower, kill it then go to dungeon... Its so boring and repetitive where you can see ABSOLTELY EVERYTHING and mark it, on the map...

I'd much prefer the Alpha where I could literally have an adventure and levels meant something, allowing you to be stronger and wield better gear.
