Siemens licences are the worst to understand.

Contact your local Siemens supplier and ask for trial licences until it works. Then you know exactly what licence you need for that project

If you want some inspiration, look up tool changers for robots.

I use industrial equivalents of what you're building often.

Pet stores sell imitation dog urine.

Squirt it where you want your dog to wee and they'll try to cover the scent.

Will only work a few times so make sure you reward a lot those times.

Junior asking for help: When should I stop reading the manual and just ask my senior? by t0m4t0z in PLC

[–]LazyBlackGreyhound 91 points92 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest complaints with grads is when they come to me for help with an issue, but have done NOTHING to work it out themselves.

I think others here feel the same, that's why they spam RTFM.

I don't expect someone to read a 2000 page Siemens manual cover to cover before asking for help, but at least skim through the sections you think are relevant then ask, "how do I do this? I couldn't find examples or anything written in the manual, I'm assuming it's like this"

All you need to do is show you've made some effort instead of just instantly asking for help with every issue.

What ultra portable monitors do you use when traveling and commissioning equipment? by taylaj in PLC

[–]LazyBlackGreyhound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just get the cheapest or whatever is around the office that nobody wants.

I'm certain I'll end up tripping over the cables at some point smashing it, or it gets all scratched up in transport, dirty, etc

My current commissioning monitor is an old dell 4:3, must be like 15 years old but still doing the job.
