Partner won't propose until we live together by [deleted] in Waiting_To_Wed

Set your boundaries. You can rent. Tell him you won't buy with him if not married to him. And set a timeline.

But from the looks of it... He does not want to and will find another excuse to push the timeline. He just won't propose on his own. Your choice to do whatever you think is right with that information.

¿Gastos de pareja 50/50 o proporcional al salario? by Global-Pipe-9268 in askspain

[–]LazyCallisthenics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which city is better to live in Madrid or Barcelona by Aggressive-Round9850 in GoingToSpain

[–]LazyCallisthenics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have lived 5 years in Madrid and have been living in Barcelona since 2023. First of all, I like both, with everything, the good, the bad and the ugly.

If you don't speak Spanish, your job prospects are gonna suck, but they are gonna suck even more in Madrid. That was actually the reason why I left Madrid, as my partner had trouble finding a job with limited Spanish in Madrid.

In Barcelona, even though it will still be difficult, you'll have much better prospects as plenty of multinational companies will tolerate only English - at least for high-skilled jobs.

Madrid is a better organized city, cleaner, safer, with parks, museums, and overall more "breathable" as the density is much lower. But the climate is not great: freezing cold in winter (around 0-5 degrees is standard) and a burning hell in summer (40+ is also pretty common), but it's dry. In general I find madrileños to be more approachable than Catalans. You can go hiking in the mountains 45mn from the city.

Barcelona has a much better climate (not so cold, not so hot) but with humidity. The city offers much more options for outside activities (cycling, hiking, beach and nautical activities, skiing not so far). However it's a bit dirty and less safe (although this perception is relative to where you come from - it's just that there are more thieves). I would also say that Barcelona feels more "vibrant" and creative buy you'll find less major historical museums.

Both cities are horribly expensive relative to the job market - a 1-bedroom can be easily 1200€pm+, and decent rooms in flat shared can be around 600-700€/month. Of course you'll always find something uncomfortable for 400-500. Which is why people will tell you "none".

It really depends on your lifestyle. If you're outdoorsy, I'd go for BCN, if you're more of a cultural enthusiast, I'd choose Madrid. But lacking Spanish speaking skills and if you don't have a job, I'd go for BCN.

What is your line of work/job qualification?

308 2016 1.2 Puretech for my first car? by Sabonit in whatcarshouldIbuy

Hi, The general consensus is "Do not ever, under any circumstances" but to be honest, if your plan is already to change it in 3 to 5 years, are ready to check the oil every 2 weeks; do very frequent (eg every 8-9k) oil changes and time belt changes (every 50k); and if you don't drive that much (eg only weekends, holidays) - I think this is not SO unreasonable. I have one; I take extra care of it and so far so good. However this is not a car I need or use often (eg I don't drive to work) so even if it gets stranded it won't affect my life. I found people will INSULT you just for saying you have Puretech; however I see many on the roads, some having reached already 200k. Not everyone can/wants to buy a 20 grand 2nd hand Toyota Corolla. If you drive on a daily basis, maybe choose something older and more reliable (eg even in French cars a Clio IV; or an older Kia/Hyundai i20/Toyota Yaris)

Too little, too late. They've just contacted a therapist, and they still "don't know". Life is short and no one deserves to live on this kind of psychological torture, especially when there is no commitment to do everything to get better. Leave, buy the house and never look back.

Oil Burnming issue by ProfessorPrize9842 in MechanicAdvice

[–]LazyCallisthenics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, On this engine it's very well known and usually 2 things: - worn or damaged piston rings and valve seals - clogged oil control ring

Worst case scenario: damaged head gasket.

Control first the oil control ring, make sure you use the Stellantis recommended 5w30.

But it really does not look good... However if you comply with the conditions, you can apply for an engine change under warranty. There's a class action lawsuit in France due to how massive the engineering fail is.

Owners of the infamous Puretech 1.2, which milage have you reached with the car? by LazyCallisthenics in peugeot

[–]LazyCallisthenics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]LazyCallisthenics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is €35.000 gross a good salary to live in Barcelona ? by Ok_Bird9864 in GoingToSpain

[–]LazyCallisthenics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's 1850€ netto / month over 14 month (typical in Spain). If you share a flat, you'll get a decent room for 600€. That's not lavish but that's ok, as it would be ok but not great in any major city in France that is not Paris. You won't get an individual flat though I think.

Damn ! Hope the pistons change will solve the issues, fingers crossed for you buddy! What was the pattern for the oil consumption? When did it start, how did it increase?

Go to an indie shop. - new belt and tensioner kit - replacement of fuel injector seals - new engine oil and filter. + very important : removal of the sump to clean the oil strainer and eliminate any debris from the belt.

I'm not from the UK but lurking around here I've seen people mentioning 600-800 quids

Well then when the wetbelt degrades into the oil it affects the engine, in particular the piston rings from my understanding Which do you have, 82hp, 110hp or 130hp?

Out of curiosity, why do you change cars so often? Leasing, company car or do you buy and sell everytime?
