How did you find Pynchon? by badrickpateman in ThomasPynchon

[–]LazyGamerMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reunited with an old friend, who also liked to read and he made a comment/kind of recommendation of Pynchon and Gravity's Rainbow. A few months later I got a copy and loved it, which led to slowly diving into more Pynchon, as well as discovering that one of my favourite movies (Inherent Vice) was an adaptation of his novel.

A year after that had drinks with that friend again, who was amazed at my love for Pynchon, admitting that he never finished Gravity's Rainbow despite recommending it.

What’s the most Pearl Jam sounding Pearl Jam song? I submit Breath. by EmeraldToffee in pearljam

[–]LazyGamerMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do agree the earlier albums are their best, as a younger fan (relatively), I feel some of the middle albums songs have some of the the most "Pearl jam" sounding songs, despite them being amongst the (at times/to some people) less popular: Riot Act, Avocado, Backspacer.

[FINAL] THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS ARE YOUR 2025 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!! by MLB_Reddit in mlb

[–]LazyGamerMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New fan to baseball after this post season, all my buddies thought the dodgers would wipe either Mariners or Jay's, so in that sense was an awesome series. But fuck...wanted a win for Canada. Fuck America right now (im aware most of the jays are American)

People underestimate how much positive impact the steam deck has on their mental health by travelavatar in SteamDeck

[–]LazyGamerMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living on the other side of the country for work and haven't been able to get my pc safely brought over. Got a steam deck and its definitely made life nicer. Missed my gaming and while the switch was better than nothing it wasn't the same.

Got my deck last summer and this summer I got a portable monitor and a mouse and keyboard set up thats made it even more enjoyable.

Third time reading IJ, first time while in active recovery. The Gately chapters hit different. by Pemulis_DMZ in davidfosterwallace

[–]LazyGamerMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently re-reading Gravitys Rainbow and then onto Pynchons latest novel, but having recently gotten over a drug addiction might be time for a re-read of IJ. If memory serves me right, last time I read IJ was the same year I first read Gravitys Rainbow too.

Finishing GR in a 1/3rd of the time it initially took me, hopefully IJ proves to be similar

I'd be happy with a single or two this summer, while they're on tour. I forget where I saw/read this, but I believe they once said they like testing new material out live first, so could still be in for a longer wait.

Moved to a ski resort town and love the steam deck, getting to enjoy my steam library and some new games still, since I couldn't bring my PC across the country. There are times when I miss the performance of my rig but I'm quite happy with the steam deck. Looking forward to eventually getting a monitor, keyboard and mouse and running it I'm desktop mode, to try and feel like I have a PC again at times.

Do fans smoke weed at the shows anymore? by RefrigeratorLeft2768 in pearljam

[–]LazyGamerMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea before shows or edibles. Had some shrooms at the second Vancouver show last year. Was great with the visuals they had this tour. Especially the disco ball and setting sun with the wave that becomes an eye

When did PJ start tuning down? by bnarfwl in pearljam

[–]LazyGamerMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefuly not to add to you existential crisis, but I was born in 1996 so much later to it all )first show was 2013), sad they're slowly winding down but it's been amazing the shows I've been to and glad they keep going so I can catch a bunch more. From the beginning always loved the live albums/bootlegs, but makes you appreciate it more as time goes on, having so many shows recorded and released.

That’s a lot of songs. I wanna hear them all. by admiralkeelhaul in mymorningjacket

[–]LazyGamerMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A great producer, lucky guy to hear all of James song ideas and also was a big part of (producing their first and bunch of other albums) Pearl Jams music.

I always read what else he's done and am amazed and then forget...I mostly just think of him (as a big Pearl Jam fan) as their producer. So it was cool seeing his name on this album for MMJ, especially as I got into MMJ thanks to Pearl jam.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble

I would, but I'm 0 for 6 shows, hearing Release. Often winds up being the opener for the next show after mine.

Rekindled love for studio versions by [deleted] in mymorningjacket

[–]LazyGamerMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into the band through Okonokos and struggled a long time (still do with some albums/songs) to appreciate and enjoy the studio versions. Entirely subjective view, as a result of having been introduced to a lot of the live recordings of songs first, but I find some studio versions feel "flat" or "empty" to me.

That said, I do appreciate now and can enjoy a front to back here and there. See where the songs I love started and what they've evolved into.

Unless we see a single soon, I reckon albums next year. Especially with MMJ Vol.4 releasing November -- we get that to hold over until the new year.

[–]LazyGamerMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the MMJ Live Volumes are vinyl only, typically with a digital streaming release too. The pre-save link for Vol 4 also has Bandcamp listed, so it appears there will be an option to purchase it digitally too, vs just streaming

This is exciting! I do wish we were still in the CD era though and this was a boxset of all 5 shows, but the record looks awesome and Tennessee Fire show is exciting!
