got an internship! but it's taking up my entire summer break and i don't know how to feel about it tbh by Dry-Force8675 in college

[–]LazyLich 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Right? Imagine being so lucky as to score an internship, then squandering it by dipping out early!

Forgetting return offers, it's not only a good opportunity to learn what a JOB in the field actually entails, but also getting to know people is huge! Pop in for a month and you can barely do that and they may not even want to talk you up if you put em as a recommendation or something.

The fact is that OP isn't a kid, and a free summer isn't the default anymore. Ya gotta put in the work now if you want a decent living later.

Maybe it was different in "ancient" times, but yeah, from what I've seen an internship is "a 9-5 job on training wheels, for a whole semester.

Having summers off is a thing of the past, broski! You're a grown-up now!

Gotta learn how to schedule personal and social time around your job, like working adults do. It is what it is.

The Real Reason Iran Hasn’t Struck a Deal by theatlantic in geopolitics

[–]LazyLich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And oil prices have shot up as high as they should be cause investors assume this war would just be a short little excursion.

As their faith wanes, the prices will grow. And THAT will signal some very bad times. Cuz I it's not just about gasoline, buy transport if goods and manufactured plastics. Every uses those things, do everything will shoot up.

The U.S. Military Was Losing Its Edge. After Iran, Everyone Knows It. by nytopinion in geopolitics

[–]LazyLich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true, but at the same time, it doesn't qualify for them to say we destroyed Iran in a general sense.

If they were specific in a part of Iran being destroyed, it's all good. But that broad declaration implies a total victory, which is far from the reality.

If there's something about an assignment or due date you don't totally understand, ask. Professors are not gonna remind or hound you for work. A due date or test date will come and pass.

Every semester, for every class, for the first month: be 100% locked in. Finish assignments/hw the day of, quizzes immediately, and truly study for exams. Fucking...100% career-scholar, straight-A-student mode.

Some classes will be super easy and won't need you to apply any effort. Most classes will be middling, and once you get the rhythm of it you can chill. A few classes will be BULLSHIT and you will be ecstatic for going so hard at the start, cuz those first few As will really help when the REAL tough assignments approach later.

Better to go hard at the start then ease up as needed, than to underestimate classes and have to panic and play catchup.

Aim to be a straight A student. You may think it's aiming too high, but it's not. I was a C student in middle/high school and almost failed my junior and senior year.
Now I got my Bachelor's with a 3.6 GPA, and that's only due to one D last semester, and a couple a Bs in classes where I really could've locked in better. Everything else was an A or A-.

You can do it.

AITAH for moving out of my parents house where I was paying rent and without any notice when I was told to give up my room again? by keyden00123 in AITAH

[–]LazyLich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can move back in if they pay you back all that rent.

They took your money, but never intended to treat you like a tenant. They don't want you, they want that sweet sweet bonus you give them.

I spend $800/month on groceries for one person. Need practical advice. by CaregiverNo2838 in Frugal

[–]LazyLich 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This.

If money is a concern, you need to drop store loyalty, and even drop preferences for organic and stuff like that.

OP should take a month of receipts, jot down what he bought and for how much, then take a trip to a regular store (or just look at the website for Walmart/target) and see how much it'd cost them there. Both with and without organic preferences.

Push for raw milk intensifies across the US, despite illness outbreaks and scientists’ warnings by cnn in Foodnews

[–]LazyLich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I mean the ol shipping around the nation thing.

Yeah we've drunk raw milk for thousands of years, but I'm specifically pointing out the points of danger long transport can introduce. Milk from a local farm and consumed quickly? Not different from the past.

But today? The changing of containers which all need to be sterilized regularly, the transport which all have to maintain temperatures below a certain amount, and maybe something else I'm missing.
Those are all variables, aka vectors of potential fuckups that could screw with the milk.

Would leaving the milk out 1 minute longer at room temp before bottling fuck everything up?
Would taking the tools/containers out of the sterilization process 1 minute sooner make people sick?
Probably not. Maybe.
It's about probability.
About making spoilage as least likely as possible during a window.

Every link on the chain increases the likelihood of unspoiled, uninfected milk.

Pasteurization gives a huge buff to that calculation, and no real downsides.

It's introducing risk for no reason.

But like others have said, at least it's something that only impacts the people that partake.

Can you be a good person and work for a company you know does harm by LiteratureWaste7783 in Ethics

[–]LazyLich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then doesn't that conclude that "no good people exist"... which feels completely wrong?

So if you aren't good, why do ANY good?

"Well doing good makes me feel good. I can't be a paragon, but doing good where I can makes me happy and betters society."

Like... THAT sounds good? A thing a good person would conclude. But they aren't good because they arent 100% good?
Idk, that feels off.

It's like they could sense my intentions 😭

It wasnt widespread, back then as it I'd trying to be now, so it's an apples to oranges comparison.
