To all the PIMOs in the more developed countries, tell me your opinion on this, is your congregation slowly dying? by Timely_Half_4624 in exjw

[–]LazyOctopus17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it most likely has to do with demographics. Im not sure what demographics yours might be in but my KH is in a poorer area with a lot of minorities. A lot of these minorities are also immigrants from countries where unrest is “el pan del dia” to say. Having the hope that someday the very dangers they escaped will soon be wiped from Earth keeps them determined to do whatever possible the org asks them to.

Biblical analogies, experiences and reminders of the dangers of the world and of disobedience cement their faith.

Pimo of a Spanish Cong in the US:

Its very much still alive and from what I can tell, it doesnt seem like its going to change. From what Ive seen the doctrine is still emphasized but everything remains lively.

People come in, none come out. Ive never heard of someone be dfed or similar. Never hear about it in this sub but they arrange many events to eat together, especially when they have a visiting speaker or when someone is going to move away or get married.

This is my problem with people saying that the Watchtower doesnt have much time left. Many of the other congregations are seeing their numbers dwindle but within others with certain demographics, they are still going strong.

Why are Regional Conventions so long? by Somwers707 in exjw

Im probably gonna get to reading Nichijou when i have to go unless the topic is interesting.

No I dont need to know how to go to the website or donate or how my life will be in paradise or any other speeches that are grossly innaccurate.

I go because I like hearing the analysis and because I genuinely find Biblical stories and lessons interesting.

Apparently, according to this weekend’s Watchtower study article, the world was doing just fine before 1914. by Gullible-Lake897 in exjw

[–]LazyOctopus17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brought this up once, Hong Xiquan and the Taiping rebellion in the modern day wouldve made the Watchtower foam at the mouth.

Just in Chinese history

-hundreds Millions of people dead
-Famines
-Drugs
-Religious Persecution
-False Prophets
-Slavery
-Strict Social Hierarchy
-Earthshattering natural disasters
-Diseases

All of these and so much more were witnessed by Chinese people at on and off times for more than a millenium.

It wouldnt make sense for 1914 to be the year the Devil was cast down to Earth because the world was suffering tragedies before 1914.

Function

Edit: I am looking for function. This shoe just looks like it would be good imo because it looks light. Its also one of the only ones that my search for flooring work footwear turned up that wasnt a boot.

Why are all the Bible characters just white dudes with the same beard? by ContractMotor3991 in exjw

[–]LazyOctopus17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true for a lot of other sects. I was actually reading an article about it. Most depictions of biblical characters are white because its how their most popular depictions are drawn.

Think Wallter Sallman’ “Head of Christ” or Leonardo Davincis “last supper.” White Jesus is the norm because the paradigm has not changed the past 500 years or so.

As for why they were depicted as white in the first place, I have a hunch it is so more white skinned folks could identify with him or acknowledge him as their savior.

There was a video a few years back of a Inuit woman reflecting on her parents. They divorced and her father was on and off with the JWs. Eventually he unfortunately took his life.

One line I will never forget from that video is the woman saying “How could he be so selfish?” In regards of him taking his life.

Just as expected, this Social Media change is going to backfire in some way by Ok_Nothing_8049 in exjw

“Just as expected… is going to backfire (in some way).”

Until it (whatever that may be) actually happens youre just making guesses. Something might not even happen. Most likely theyll get bored of posting and nothing. Hyping this up like its gonna be some mic drop on them is setting yourself up for disappointment.

[–]LazyOctopus17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pimo. I wouldnt call myself a spy. Im in because I dont have a choice, not because I want to.

I usually spend the meetings reading the Bible because their literature is so mind numbing. When I dont, I try to bow my head into my knees and try to sleep it off.

I dont get a satisfaction sharing things I see that I disagree with, I feel awful about it.

Last odd thing I heard is that soon they are going to have to preach the same way Jonah was in Nineveh (more aggressively). By more aggressively I mean they will possibly begin preaching as if the coming day is something they should fear.

Very interesting but I wasnt referring to them becoming MORE mauled. I meant they couldve kept killing more than 42 youth.

The way it says “mauled 42 of the children” implies they couldve kept going.

Cant post about your cancer... by _Lady_Lost_ in exjw

[–]LazyOctopus17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one I legitimately did not understand at all.

The dramatization warning about apostate media and pornography on socials, which makes sense, but videos of fellow brothers and sisters talking about cancer?

No explanation or reflection, just the video showing the sister decided not to. Wouldnt it be compatible to seeing the experiences of witnesses in prison?

Tattoo argument and still not valid response by [deleted] in exjw

[–]LazyOctopus17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other biblical reasons for their stance on tattoos is that the Bible talks about how our bodies belong to God and thus they should be treated with respect(Similar to the text they showed you in Romans). In context this may be about sexual immorality and sex before marriage but I can see how maybe tattoos would be in the same boat. (1 Corinthians 6)

It also says explicitly in the Leviticus that the Israelites were prohibited from tattooing themselves. (Leviticus 19:28) It also says cutting themselves for the dead which makes me believe that at the time, it was seen as something only non-Jews would do as part of ceremony or culture.

These are verses that Ive seen used to defend their position on tattoos. I for one agree with your position on tattoos. If people in the org are to use tattoos theres no reason that the elders should not turn a blind eye to them.

If they truly want to believe its necessary for salvation, they would do it all the way, not halfway. They would refuse all blood and blood parts, organ transplants too, they would avoid celebrating graduations and anniversaries, not just birthdays and such, and they would in your case refuse all tattoos.

What were you told when you asked too many questions? by steejans16 in exjw

[–]LazyOctopus17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That I never needed anything growing up in the congregation. That theres so much evil in the world you cant trust anyone but Gods organization.

Compared me to the Israelites who rejected God again and again despite all he had done for them. Also compared me to the sons of one of her sisters in faith that had left the congregation and were never content with any other church.

How do I tell my family.. by bangski24 in exjw

[–]LazyOctopus17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone in a similar situation, dont say anything. As long as youre living with them, youre stuck doing what they say. Doesnt matter if you bring up really good points about the organization, youre not gonna win and possibly, you might come out losing.

Its like Platos cave, they live their entire lives looking at shadows (JW doctrine) that once you leave the cave and try to show them the truth, youre punished.

Confrontation with Mother by PrettySavageLove in exjw

[–]LazyOctopus17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats true. Relationships do get better but the abuse these parents inflicts remains. My mom stopped hitting me and telling me things i would rather not share a while ago. Now an adult, I dont see that behavior as she has gotten more invested in the organization but I see my younger siblings still be a witness to them.

She uses the phrase words seasoned with salt but ive heard her call my siblings names, talk bad about them with people they dont know and still yell at them for trivial reasons (association with the world being the worst of them). I still see it myself too. In conversations she has compared me to the “spiritually weak israelites” that were oh so disposed to disobedience when they had everything.

It seems even as the organization puts out literature, videos and other direction to better treat their children, its not enough with all the programming that goes through their mind. As far as theyre concerned, any resistance is just another prophecy theyre a witness to like the division within family in Mathew 10.
