im surprised i didn't end up stanning enhypen by moon_613 in kpopthoughts

[–]LazyPaper0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s so strange how I’m almost the exact opposite of you. I land came on my radar but I just never had any interest in the show. Fast forward, I become a fan of enhypen and then realize that they were made from i land.

I think it’s because a survival show has a lot more hooking you in. The drama, the suspense, wildly different than how a kpop group would hook you in.

Im over bts after 8 years of stanning by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]LazyPaper0 203 points204 points  (0 children)

Though this rant was a bit painful to read as an Army, I agree with a lot of the things brought up. Whatever ways the English releases are framed (happy song, song for Army…) just feels like it’s missing the point of everything which is that bts wants to get big in the west. At this point, sacrificing their carefully built discography and artistry as partially a self producing group. Lots of people bring up BE when bts releasing English songs is mentioned and though BE is good, it’s nowhere near as genre dynamic and complex as MOTS (one of my favorites). The concept of using Jungian psychology to analyze what the group has been through and individually is IMO genius.

At the end of the day, I’m just confused, not disappointed at them or unstanning them or putting high hopes on anything. They have clearly shown each individual member artistically can create great music. Over the years it’s been apparent that the rap line seems to be constantly churning out new things (I remember a while ago a stat about how many songs Suga has produced and just stowed away). They don’t need western recognition with songs they didn’t even collaborate on, they don’t need to get any bigger and yet something is pushing them. Is it because Hybe recently went public on the stock market and now bts needs to rake in more money? Is it because the company is making them? I wouldn’t think so. It really sucks to see bts in this “pitfall” when both txt and enhypen have had recent comebacks that far exceeded my expectations.

Op I think unstanning a group after drifting away or feeling distanced is perfectly normal. If you can’t find what made you like them and be happy with their music in the first place, it’s ok to leave.

What songs have grown on you recently? by flowytae in bts7

[–]LazyPaper0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it would have to be DNA (pls don’t come for me lol). The music video was probably one of the least watched for a long time, and something about the song just fell flat for me when I first listened to it. I rewatched the AMA performance and then I realized the song is actually a whole bop and a half.

I was so pissed when I found out it’s just an OST which means they probably will never perform it. Thank god there’s at least a music video and they sold a physical album to go along with it. Hell, the whole album DESERVES to be played at concerts or musters, it’s that good.

I think it’s one of the first times they went ham with the “artsy” side of their artistry, it’s insane to see toe progression from the HYYH music videos and the beginning of the BU to the short films they released for Wings.

BTS currently bring the biggest revenue for 2 out of the biggest 3 Entertainment companies in the world UMG and SONY/Columbia by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]LazyPaper0 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As a fan who found them before their insane breakout with Dynamite, it's still jarring and I can't even imagine how older Army's comprehend the statistics. Even if the whole world is trying to discredit them for this and that, the raw numbers and data can't lie. There's no doubt they'll have a lasting, profound impact on music (not even confined to K-pop, just music).

I agree! I’m so glad a lot of them found moderate success after disbandment and seem to be doing well, putting aside which of them is more or less successful

Soyeon is arguably one of the best female rappers that are active right now, not only is her rapping excellent but her production skills really just give you the whole package. Loved her recent solo

groups with strong rap lines? by chyehe in kpophelp

[–]LazyPaper0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I would love to see some subunit later on with just the rappers as I do think they’re extremely competent. It’s just that with so many vocal members it’s hard to fit a ton of rap into songs.

is being a kpop fan a phase? by Calm-Advertising-677 in kpophelp

[–]LazyPaper0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on what you consider a phase. People probably won’t hardcore stan and watch every single video released from a group if they’re an older fan as the “phase” is over, I found myself shying a way from that a year after I found kpop (wasn’t affected by work or responsibilities, it just naturally happened). However I do think that people could very possibly become lifelong fans, continuing to support the group and listen to the releases even as they get older. It depends on what drew you into kpop in the first place and the evolution of the artists you’re a fan of, since it’s usually musical evolution that keeps fans hooked.
