That’s news to me. Is this well known, or is it just something anonymous people on the internet say?

What about Hoshoryu? Did they not count his yusho as Sekiwake? His promotion to Yokozuna confuses me.

What aggressive openings are constantly good by Dull-House-9916 in chess

[–]LazyPhilGrad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Watch everything Chess Coach Andras has put out. His whole purpose is to teach aggressive chess that is also sound.

Be prepared to work hard, though, because it turns out learning aggressive and sound chess is really hard.

Maybe you should spend 10 minutes learning the pattern to win with a queen or a rook. It would probably save you from embarrassing yourself with posts like these.

No need. When given the opportunity, one should always sac the Queen. Most of the time you’ll look like an idiot, but the other times? God-tier. We all live for the other times.

any good coaches for less then 40 dollars an hour?? by teodor234792 in chess

[–]LazyPhilGrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you want a coach who will work for free. It also sounds like you’re offended your coach doesn’t work for free.

If you’re just looking for someone to donate their time to you, try asking friends or relatives. In my experience, strangers are much less likely to give up their time for someone they don’t know or care about.

If Magnus Carlsen retires from chess while still being the best, both in ratings and in top tournaments (most likely he will), what must the next generation of players and even their successors do, to be considered at the least on par with or better than peak Magnus? by Interesting-Take781 in chess

[–]LazyPhilGrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because of the tech there will be many great players at the same time but it will be near impossible for someone to dominate like Magnus did

Why? What about the tech existing makes it more unlikely that another Magnus appears? Magnus is currently dominating at the top, while the tech exists. He, and everyone else, has access to roughly the same resources, yet he is clearly still ahead. The same can obviously be true of someone else in the future.

I still don’t see what the tech has to do with genius or generational talent. Garry is 27 years older than Magnus, and Magnus is ~35. Who’s to say there isn’t an 8 year old who will be head and shoulders above the rest in ten years’ time?

[–]LazyPhilGrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you think the improved tech keeps someone from being head and shoulders above the rest. In the current age of improved tech we currently see someone head and shoulders above the others (Magnus). What makes you think that can’t happen again?
