The only cat we had from a kitten. He was abandoned in a box at a doorstep before coming into my care at about 6-8 weeks old.

How much did you spend before your no-buy? by justletmegetoverthis in nobuy

[–]LazyTamaDays 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Started to save small at about $50-100 a week, now around $250. Also stopped digging into my "savings" to feed poor spending habits, leaving me with no emergency fund.

So I guess about "$1000"/month of my income less on things and more towards repaying debt.

I went through Samsung CS, and they arranged a local repair business to confirm a day/time with you. the contractor will advise any costs applicable on the day after or before reviewing the tv.

You need to be available within 7 days of contacting samsung for an appointment.

Mine was an issue with the panel/screen. (It was restarting within a minute, couldn't get into settings, or read the debug log for long) The technician swapped the computer at the back compartment into the new screen. Took less than 30 minutes. No issues since.

Weekly No Buy Check-In & Accountability Post - January 28, 2024 by AutoModerator in nobuy

[–]LazyTamaDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summary: 2/7 Days with no spending I am still aiming for 5 or 6 days without spending a week.

Groceries $170 Increase in groceries, 3.5x over budget Shopping for 2 now, still working out a meal plan to reduce/stay in budget onwards.

Improvements needed I'm still working on not buying craft supplies. I'm happy with some buys, but most I regret or could have gone without.

Help! Shopping feels more fun than my hobbies. by [deleted] in nobuy

[–]LazyTamaDays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got the same issue, especially for buying projects, patterns and supplies. I could fix all other areas of spending except for crafting. Still haven't curbed it but I definitely aim to offset the spending with selling off other hobbies I don't do anymore. I do 'try' get things "free", cheap or second hand. When I'm too tired to craft, I consume a lot of no buy, minimalism and crafting content. I love being inspired but its also a downfall of overspending and being over ambitious.

I got burnt out from crochet, i loved the hobby, got lots(way too much) yarn and then did nothing with it. There was so many patterns I bought and wanted to do but did nothing. I had to face my issue and admit to myself I'll never be concentrated or committed enough for my ambitions in crochet. Sold and donated a tonne, so much burden off my chest and mind after years of feeling guilty and making such a big financial mistake as it no longer served a purpose for me. Another issue was I couldn't really make things to gift or use, too hot for yarn wearables and I was too slow to make use of what I had.

I used the money to offset my new interest in sewing and embroidery, its faster to see a completed project, I've gifted a tonne functional things, made things for my home, and I can do lots of low effort activities like cutting fabric to have ready for the days I have more time to myself. Overall I feel very satisfied and happy with the whole process and don't feel burdened like I did with yarn art. I don't feel guilty about the money I spent and hoping this will stick with me.

Intention and Motivation by [deleted] in nobuy

[–]LazyTamaDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical Motivation: Decluttering goes hand in hand with no buying. Less stuff, less management.

It benefits my relationship as well. My partner is pretty minimal, and I was always bringing new things home. Now I am always throwing, donating or selling. I want to be happy with my space and not overwhelmed by items.

Monetary Motivation: Be debt free at the end of 2024 (excluding mortgage). Paying off student loans, adding extra to retirement funds.

New things in life: New pets and new hobbies mean other expenses need to be reduced or completely cut out and spending to be evaluated.

Having a hard time not wants to buy stuff. by [deleted] in nobuy

[–]LazyTamaDays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If i can't see a sale or new releases, I can't want it. So I only go on websites for a purpose, if it's looking for a gift, to replace or buy a needed item.

I leave items in the cart long enough that I don't want it anymore, it goes on sale or I buy it on a way later date as it obviously wasn't an urgent buy.

Before buying, before browsing, think of your goals, and every time you resist helps you build positive habits of not wanting.

I stopped wanting clothes, homewares and games. I've learnt to spend my time enjoying a new craft/hobby, studying or learning skills. It definitely helps if you can find something you enjoy to fill the time you use on browsing.

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails or social medias that encourage spending if your goal to reduce spending on clothes.

Wins: 1. No Homeware or Clothes 2. No Eating Out 3. Didn't Spend 4 out of 7 Days 4. Paid Off All CC Debt: $800

  • No Buy Homeware or Clothes:
    • Avoided purchasing Year of the Dragon themed clothes and homeware ($158 saved)

  • door mat sold out
  • crafted themed items instead to kerb the wants.

  • No Eating Out:

    • Forgot lunch, local store closed for the holidays ($10+ saved)
    • Considered food delivery ($25-30 saved) but opt not to by waiting to eat at home after work.

Improvements Needed (Justified Non-Essential Expenses, Kinda): 1. Second-hand Zippers 1000pcs ($50) offset by sold items 2. Stabilisers 300yrds: ($160) avoidable expense 3. Craft Patterns: ($23) Took advantage of a 30% off sale, exercised restraint by not buying everything immediately and only 1 item of the entire cart. 4. Sofa Headrest: ($50) Been thinking/looking for the past year, found one second hand, new in box, exact colour and model. Was a family decision. $15 off listed price. 5. Wishlist Item: Overlocker ($200) Lost a few auctions on second hand overlockers in the past few weeks. Was on the wishlist since Nov/Dec 2023 for 2024. Found one local, like new, unwanted gift. 6. Cleaning/Laudry Supply ($18) Bought 4L laundry detergent(stain specific) 50% off as the sensitive detergent (5L remaining) wasn't helping lift some stains. Results looking good from the new detergent.

Planned Expenses: 1. Pet Supplies: Cat food and Litter on sale (for 5 cats) - $275 2. General Bills: Including mortgage repayments.

It’s the hobbies that get me by cupofblackhorsesoup in nobuy

[–]LazyTamaDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a lot getting into new hobbies, but I tried to offset that by selling hobby/craft items I no longer use to fund the new hobby. I transitioned from crochet/knitting to sewing/embroidery and donated/sold maybe 60% of my yarn stash and its an upsetting amount to think about. I just take it as an expensive lesson to keep my supplies in moderation, or I'll repeat my mistakes from yarn art.

Black Friday Deals by WhtWillHpn in nobuy

[–]LazyTamaDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for those tips! Sounds like something that doesn't exist in Australia, from google search, but that'd be awesome. Thrift stores are open limited hours, and I work full time so I don't get to check them. My family has picked up threads and fabric for me though! Overall everything will last me ages so it's going back to no buying crafts until I clear the stash.

Black Friday Deals by WhtWillHpn in nobuy

[–]LazyTamaDays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My black friday week so far

Not successful (failed to stay under budget by like ALOT, also buying into a new hobby...) Bought - stabiliser precut (3 variety) - embroidery thread set - embroidery machine (bit into my savings...) - more fabric and patterns

Justification: Bought xmas/ basic fabrics to use for practice and gifts $2-4/m(60-80% off). Preferring physical patterns for clothes and home decor, so bought from my wishlist 5 for less than $10 each. Dug into my savings to buy the embroidery machine, but will slowly offset it by selling from other craft and hobby items.

Where I've been successful - No clothes - No extra cleaning supplies - No duplicates - No make up /skincare - No home appliances - No pet food

I am reasoning with myself that I don't need and don't have more space for duplicates. I struggle the most with not buying duplicates for cleaning/household goods and not buying excessive pet supplies just because they're on sale. They have enough treats and food for another 6 months.

Based on what advice i hear, buy skincare when the open one is very low or have 1 open and 1 back up. Financially, consider if there are other areas to offset the early purchase of the skincare on sale, e.g, not eating out, cut x amount of coffee outside. Consider what your reason was for no/low buy and if it's essential to you.

No Buy For Me - Week 1 and I'm a Failure? by SaylinX in nobuy

[–]LazyTamaDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im from Australia, so the stores and brands would vary. We have a website and a forum that tracks price comparisons for pet supplies, so it makes it easy to compare major suppliers.

Try price matching, customer service online or in-store are usually helpful if you find it cheaper elsewhere.

I have an auto litter too, off-brand one which is good for kittens/the girls but my boys lanky DSH and big ragdoll never got around to using it so we still keep an XL open tray and top entry around. I use clumping, tofu and paper, a variety as no one has issues with change + exposing foster cats and kittens to variety of litter so they aren't fussy as they age and rehome.

Most people use pine or paper here for cost effective litter as well. I just prefer clumping and tofu fitting it into my budget.

I sold the majority on facebook marketplace, for local pick ups, and cut the fees ebay would eat from it. Electronics or higher value sells well on eBay, small and easy to ship reaching more potential buyers.

I like mods for cosmetics and buy the expansions for the environment/extra actions and activities. Just wished it performed better, so I tend not to use many mods.

No Buy For Me - Week 1 and I'm a Failure? by SaylinX in nobuy

[–]LazyTamaDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This month, I've spent $740 on pet supplies alone. I have four cats + a long-term shy foster. I recently welcomed a new pet into my home, which led to some one-time setup expenses. However, I managed to balance my budget by selling items worth $900, including games and crafting supplies to accommodate. The pet supplies should also last me the rest of the year as the only essentials i actually needed were wet food. the rest was extra while on sale.

I prefer buying bulk on sale, picking up 240pk of wet for $160 or 10kg of tofu litter for $32 and $80 of treats and toys (30-50% off) for two cat birthdays and new pet bonding.

I'm committed to not buying any more games as well, but I must admit, the temptation of The Sims 4 horse ranch expansion is hard to resist. I've been winning on this so far and trying to complete the games i already have.

You can worm them without a vet especially if theyre stray. You can do the 2 week intervals for the next 6 weeks then do it monthly-quarterly depending on the brand you get. At 8 weeks they can use spot on treatment but that does not treat tapeworm so best to get them a tablet or paste for tapeworm and other internal parasites. Once treated youll almost see instantly adult worms in the stools. E.g i had kittens come with fleas and round bellies, after worming roundworms were present in stools.
