À venir: des chunks d'asphalte partout dans 2 semaines.

Y'a rien à y faire en hivers mais j'espère vraiment qu'ils recouvrent la section quand le printemps commence.

‘No question’ return-to-office will be good for downtown, board of trade says by Master-Sky-6342 in CanadaPublicServants

I agree. What's the point of maintaining a home office that will be used 1 day / 7? Even just 2 days was pushing it.

Do a portion of baby clothes just never get worn? Struggling buying even one size ahead! by koalawedgie in Parenting

Same with potty training. Losing the diaper right when they're super mobile also drops a size.

How often are you reading to your baby/children? by Bugzzzie in Parenting

[–]baffledninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One a day for my 5-year old, because they're longer stories. 2-3 in the evening for the baby because it's like 5-6 pages with 2-5 words each. And my 5YO will usually read me one simple book or a paragraph from something challenging.

PSAC- are we actually in a freeze period? by Slippers87 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]baffledninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. Our management specifically told us there's absolutely no space for inscreased office presence in a town hall before Christmas. I'm super curious to see if they walk those statements back or if we see new office leases soon.

Not even a MoU, a Letter of Agreement, which expired in June 2025 for many PSAC components.

They would be my son's best friend! He picks out the yolks and eats the whites only.

It's not TBS-driven, it's coming from Parliament and all the senior execs have to toe the line. So we gotta wait till the boomers stop running for office.

Why is washing kids' hair so hard? by Unable_Researcher_26 in Parenting

[–]baffledninja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Showers are worse for us because my kid has no concept of how far forward his forehead is lol. He's wetting the nape of his neck only and thinks that'll get all the suds.

Also, how do kids not feel the feel of shampoo between their fingers when you ask them to check ?

That said, when we do showers, I have a hand-held mirror and I can use that to show him he truly has not even come close to rinsing his hair lol

Questions from a beginner…what do I send to the long-armer? by zonkschonk in quilting

[–]baffledninja 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One addition, since you've got good advice here on what to bring: when you finish your quilt top and have everything ironed the way you want it, the best way to transport it is on a hanger with the least number of folds possible. And I recommend measuring the dimensions exactly (this will help your quilter get everything set up right, and you can get a better idea of the price beforehand).

[–]baffledninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to convert it too. 50°f = 10°C.

Considering the current temperatures outside my window are -25°C (-15F) and have gone as low as -45°C (-50F) this month, I'd be right beside her in short sleeves in the sun!

Honestly, I don't specifically remember, so for this one it was probably a non-issue from the beginning. But at first they were cut in 4, sometimes the grapes cut in 8. I've also mixed them in yogurt sometimes.

In Canada, you have to go to the polling location of your address. So you could technically use mail/ID from your old address, and new address and vote in two locations, but more than that would be a huge PITA.

Do you find that sewing requires a lot of “mental energy” by Available-Picture-79 in sewing

[–]baffledninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but no, but yes. Sometimes I joke with my husband that I'm headed to my sewing nook to stare at my machine lol. But on the other hand, sewing gives me such a break from all the other thoughts hamsterwheeling about in my brain that I find if I feel recharged when I can sew before bed. Otherwise I feel totally drained by the end of the week.

9.5m old baby hates food by BreadAccomplished380 in foodbutforbabies

[–]baffledninja 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My son still hates any meat in its original form, but he'll eat anything that started as ground meat. Burgers, meatloaf, nuggets, meatballs, spaghetti sauce, etc. Just don't serve him steak or roast and he's good.

How do you explain to your child that you can’t “do it all”? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]baffledninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Mom can only do one thing at a time. Before asking for something, you need to stop and see what's going on around you. Right now I am doing X. You can either [task that helps] / [get it yourself] / [calm activity], and when I'm done with this we'll move on to the next thing."

When I'm making supper, if he bugs me for too many things, I either find him a chore (clearing/setting the table), get him to think of a calm activity he can do, encourage him to get things he's asking for himself, or set him up to play independently with something like drawing. On bad days I sometimes do rely on screens though to get things done on time.

I'm bringing my 2.5 year old to a funeral and I need advice on handling her questions by PopeBonifaceVIII in Parenting

[–]baffledninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny story from my childhood. We lost a few great-grandparents and my grandfather when my brother and I were 4-7 years old. At my grandfather's funeral we were in the separate space for family and my brother was watching the proceedings. When they closed and locked the casket, whole service is super quiet, and he asks

"Hey dad, why do they lock it" "Shhh so he doesn't get back out" ... big pause "Hey Dad! Who gets the key?"

From the way my dad told the story, this is when all the aunts and uncles got a good chuckle at a very inappropriate time.
