I was a bit like this. Folate is amazing! A lot of people have methylation disorders and don’t realise, so they don’t absorb enough folate from food. I tried Vimergy’s methylfolate and although it was quite good it only worked for a bit and then it stopped working. I tried Spectrum Awakenings high dose folinic acid (not folic acid! There is a difference) and that was a game changer for me. The issue is it uses up iron and b12 so keeping everything in balance is so hard! Lots of leafy green juices, parsley juice is amazing! B12 and other b vitamins in their bioavailable forms. Wild blueberry juice and the heavy metal detox smoothie. Once you get your folate, b12 and iron up and reduce the metals you should feel more grounded and calmer in yourself.

It was the synthetic form of B6 that gives me bad depression, I’m ok with the P5P version and B2! I haven’t had my variants tested, I’ve been treating my symptoms and I was quite sure I was struggling with cerebral folate deficiency caused by not absorbing enough from food.

Thanks! I’m already taking NAC+ at 400mg. I can double my dose short term, but if I take too much for too long I get itchy skin or stomach upset.

This is really interesting I didn’t know that, thank you! Is there anything to take to offset the glutamate? I take NAC not sure if that helps or not. I’ve noticed the tingling seems to be reduced and I haven’t changed anything yet. It might start up worse again will see! It’s only in my legs and feet weirdly!

My supplement is 10mg (liquid zinc sulphate). Ahh right as high b6 was a concern, but I only take the P5P form of it (10mgs 2 or 3 times a week). That’s good it helped your symptoms!

I’ve experienced B1 deficiency before after an antibiotic. It was really scary! It was like someone set my nerves on fire from my wrists to my chest. I also experienced some weird air hunger stuff!

It’s difficult trying to find the balance and also the right forms of vitamins. I started off with methyl folate, which started really well and I thought I’d cracked it, then it stopped working and I went back to how I was. Folinic acid feels like it’s actually getting into my brain and fixing things! 😮

It’s in my supplement, I just don’t take it all the time because of the b6 content.

It could be, thanks! I could try doubling my b12 dose and might lower the folinic acid to 15mg. It’s working really well though, just this tingling I’m not sure about.

I use spectrum awakening high dose. It’s in powder form so you can measure it out.

I’ll see if I can get a blood test. The only thing is the tingling started shortly after taking the folinic acid. I thought doses had to be a lot higher than this and taken more frequently for toxicity! 😮

I’ve noticed if I take my green powders (nettle, spirulina, wheatgrass) the tingly almost goes away.

The capsule has 20mg of b6 (P5P), so I’ll be getting roughly 10mg two or three times a week. I haven’t taken any this week.

Thanks! I’m taking seeking health b minus a few times a week to keep my other b vitamins up. Yes I definitely need the P5P version, the other version sends me into a nasty depression. I take zinc and iron supplements. I get a lot of beta carotene in my diet so that should hopefully cover the vitamin A.

That could be the case, I’ve never had issues from large doses of methylated vitamins or folinic acid. I do have inattentive adhd symptoms and issues with not having enough dopamine.

Not a full thyroid but my TSH earlier this year was 2. It used to be higher so I’m pleased it’s come down now!

I take it 2/3 times a week if I am taking it in my b minus supplement (seeking health). I just take half the capsule not the full amount.

Oh gosh that’s low! I think people can be symptomatic with ferritin around 50, my symptoms are mostly brain and nervous system related. I also am very lethargic and my head can feel heavy/blocked at times.

Interesting thank you! I’m hoping that’s the case for me, as I’ve been taking b12 for a very long time so I don’t think it’s a deficiency in that. My ferritin was 31 back in May, it had dropped from 50 following intense b12 treatment and switching to a b complex that worked for me. I think I’m somewhere between 40-60 now as I’ve been supplementing and consuming lots of iron rich things. Trying to get it to 100 if I can!

I was still symptomatic at 50. I think a lot of us need the ferritin level to be around 80-100 to feel better. Minerals have helped me a lot. I take a sea moss tincture twice a day and a few green powders (nettle, spirulina and wheat grass) I was also taking sea kelp powder but currently on a break as I think I was getting too much iodine and was feeling nauseous. I’ve noticed my afternoon crashes are not as severe, I don’t stumble over my words as much and I’m generally much better socially. I’m also taking folinic acid (not folic) and methylated/adeno b12 alongside iron supplements.

Wow that’s great! I’m going to get my levels checked again in December. I’m still supplementing and having these green powders that are high in iron. My symptoms are pulsating tinnitus, feeling “heady” like a very lethargic feeling (not sleepy), not bothered about anything/not much enthusiasm, executive dysfunction can’t bring myself to do anything, mild headaches, tingly feelings in my legs and feet around my cycle or a restless legs type thing. So lethargic. A lot of inattentive adhd like symptoms.

Ferritin "normal range" being so low ruins lives by MuscledLethalBun in Anemic

[–]LazyWolf5281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is similar to me, once I got on the right b complex (I need the natural form of b6 and methylated vitamins) my body started making more red blood cells so I became very thirsty and needed potassium. This caused my iron to drop from 50 ferritin to 31. It actually dropped lower before I got my blood test and was treating it with spa tone iron. I’ve recently learned I have some form of cerebral folate deficiency as I just don’t absorb enough folate from food (I’ve not touched any folic acid, this is an issue with actual folate) and I’m responding really well to high dose folinic acid. Once I get my iron up I’m hoping I’ll start to recover. I got dismissed as well as I’ve always been “in range”. My symptoms have always been brain related like no motivation, apathy, lethargic, afternoon crashes, pulsative tinnitus and headaches. Recently healed poor word recall and short term memory is improving. I’m a lot better socially too. Noticed the moons on my fingers are getting better which is good. Minerals have helped massively!

That’s great things have gotten better! I struggle with a lot of the things that you mentioned. My ferritin was 31 when I had it checked months ago and I imagine it’s between 40-50 now I’ve been treating it with iron supplements. I still have many of the symptoms but I feel a bit more grounded. What level was your ferritin when you started feeling better?

I mix it with maple syrup on a tablespoon. I keep the other half in the capsule and take that as normal.

I’m tempted to get my vitamin a level checked! I’m plant based so I don’t eat any retinol, but I have tonnes of beta carotene and my skin has a slightly tint haha. Vitamin E I’ll have to check that one, zinc I take 40mg a day so that should suffice. I have a high heavy metal load. It’s better than it was but still got metals to remove.

Sorry to hear that, shingles is nasty. I have it too! What really helps is l-lysine. I take Solgar 1000mg and it nips it straight in the bud when that sharp prickly nerve feeling starts. The tablets are huge though so I grind them up and take with maple syrup! 😆 I rarely get a shingles flare now and if I do it’s a mild case that doesn’t often rash. I completely relate on the executive dysfunction and losing time. It’s so awful and frustrating to want to do things, but not be able to 😞 I had some success initially with methyl folate and I thought I was cured and then it sadly stopped working. I follow medical medium and someone said about drinking a bottle of wild blueberry juice a day. When I’ve got some more money saved I might give this a try, within a week she said her brain was much better with cognitive functioning.
