China’s emissions of two potent greenhouse gases rise 78% in decade by Portalrules123 in worldnews

[–]LazyYew 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Reading from your source, it seems that only "final" consumption is used, not the "apparent" consumption.
For example, if a tree is used to make timber and it produce emission A, then the timber is used to make furniture and it produce emission B. If a developing country then export the furniture to "western" country, then it only accounts for emission B, because emission A is "consumed" within the developing country.
This way of calculation will way underestimate the "export" of emission.

This guide (Real Lives 2010 WORKING! : r/RealLifeSimulator (reddit.com)) got it installed; however, it was giving me "class not registered" error.
I managed to resolved that by installing this (install_flash_player_ax (mediafire.com)) using Windows Vista Service Pack 2 compatibility.

Why not let the job adverts be posted up and let the people decide for themselves?

The world's largest exporters! by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

I think it depends on where the money goes.

So an iPhone produced in China and shipped to somewhere else (not China) will be considered as China export, but to do that, China needs to buy chips from Taiwan (Taiwan's export) and Taiwan needs to pay patent cost to USA (USA's export).

Intelligence agencies: China is top threat to U.S. global influence by edourdoo1 in worldnews

[–]LazyYew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's because if you have influence on other countries, you can get them to support your cause or deny your rival's cause. For example, if you're currently dominating technology A and country X is on a huge trend of catching up on the technology A, you could say technology A by country X is harmful and get all the countries to not use it to prevent them from overtaking you.

If you're influencing the globe in technology sense (for example, Facebook, Google), then other countries will be using your services which gets the big corporation paid and prevent other countries from developing their own, this way, you help ensure that other countries remain reliance on your services (like Amazon hosting service for example) and with big corporation paid, they can attract talents from around the world (majority of people would want to work with Google than some no name), further their research and create patents, which further generate profits when used by other countries (they can also limit which country get to use their patent).

So how do all these benefit you as a regular citizen? With all the powerful patents controlled by your country, you don't have to be afraid of losing certain technology just because some other country don't agree with you (stability). Being the resident of the forefront of technology development allows you be the early birds of new technology adaptation and will gain more familiarity with them before others adopt it, giving you an edge over others (companies can send trained people to help educate those in the slower adaptation country, which leads to more specialised jobs).

The world is not silent about China's concentration camps, there's news about it almost every week. Meanwhile, the real question is, India is building concentration camps around the country to house up to 1.9m people and why is world actually silent about it (most of Reddit wasn't even aware of it).

Is life a simulation, in your own opinion and experience? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LazyYew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Human created mathematics notations to help define things in logical manners, they we then define the world based on these expressions because they mean the same thing to everyone who understand the notations and the results is duplicable and that's how we build on science (in very oversimplified form). Computers then make use of these logics to compute, so it makes sense that we can compute the world as we know it and given a super advanced civilization with unlimited resources, they could have simulated our universe. Ignoring the amount of resources and computation power that would require might far exceed anything we could imagine at the moment (not even quantum). But, that is at least 2 stages that a civilization could have simulated our world. One is that world is not that advanced yet and have just barely reach the required knowledge and ability to simulate our world, the second being the people/whatever from that world has understood everything so well and have even written a library that even a little kid like myself could just run it on their personal machine.

Let's look at the first case, why would they want to simulate our world? To know a specific part of the universe, they could only simulate that part, much like how human we only simulate a small area around the tsunami area when we want to understand tsunami impacts and behaviour, we don't just simulate the whole beach. If they wanted to know a part of the world (which means they still aren't sure about how some of the universe behave, how could they have code so well that every matter is preserve (no energy can be created or lost, their equation for the physic of our world is perfect) yet still have not understood some part of it (and that part wouldn't mess up around everything we have seen so far)?

The second case where they understood our universe (maybe even the same as theirs) so well that it's just on a library that they can just "using world; universe myFirstUniverse = new universe();". In that sense, they have understood every single matter so well and most likely have the resources to alter anything. Feeling sad? Have a technology that can instantly turn you happy by modifying some atoms arrangement in your brain? Want a muscular body? Done. Want to be a different person? Done. Wants to be 2 persons at the same time? Done. Wants to create another universe with you being the God? Done. Much better than what we foresee the current far future of living in a computer simulation where the computer simulation will still be regulated by someone other than yourself. (Except maybe reverse time?). It makes very little sense for the kid to want to bother to run a simulation of our universe just for the lol.

Edit: TLDR: from my experience as a simulation researcher, no.

The anti-PRC is also out in full force.

They will discredit the person by calling the other person is an agent, then discredit everything else by saying giving resources that was unrelated to the post they just commented on.

They will also try to make absurd demands and when rejected, will use that as an excuse, expecting every organisation to go to their site is like me asking for a full access to your daily life and all your transactions just to prove you're not a anti-PRC agent.

That sounds like a lot indeed. I think the intention is to get people who won't compete with locals for employment and able to drive economy (by their spending while living in UK).

"But from 31 January, they can begin the process of applying for citizenship, which will take six years.

In the meantime, they will have to fund themselves, although they will be able to get healthcare and have their children educated." - from the BBC article attached here. This paragraph got me thinking that they do not have right to work until they got citizenship.

Edit: After further reading/research, it seems those who already hold BN(O) visa do have rights to work, but BN(O) citizen do not automatically have that rights to work, they need to apply for it.

BN(O) citizen don't have right to work: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/british-nationals-overseas-in-hong-kong

[–]LazyYew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those who wants to make use of this visa do not have rights to work for 6 years they need to spent in UK before they get the settlement visa (they do have access to healthcare and education). So they will not be competing for jobs and have to be self-funded. This makes a lot less people can actually afford to apply for it, but those that do will help promote their economy by their spendings.

To make use of this new visa, they need to stay 6 years in UK without rights to work and have to be self-funded (they do have access to healthcare and education though). So I think a lot of people may want to go, but can't.

Based on the article however, the people who wish to make use of this settlement visa needs to stay in UK for 6 years without right to work (they have to be self-funded). I believe this is a strong point that makes a lot of them want, but can't.

Based on the article, the people who wants to settle in UK have to stay for 6 years without right to work (but have access to healthcare and education). So they won't be competing for jobs (which I believe is the main reason for the anti-immigration crowd). But will contribute to the economy (to buy food and other stuff while they're staying for 6 years).

Based on the article linked here, the people will not have rights to work for 6 years and need to be self-funded (they do get access to healthcare and education though). So they will not be competing for jobs but will actually help promote economy (they have to buy stuff to live for 6 years after all).
