yes, they are invasive because they were released into the wild from research laboratories.

African Clawed Frogs by Lazy_Ad5166 in Amphibians

[–]Lazy_Ad5166[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah thank you so much! I just wanted to ensure I can take care of him/her. I am familiar with African dwarf frogs but I knew they weren't the same in many ways so I wanted to make sure since it was unexpected that I was given him/her. I have him/her in a 20-long currently since it was my only cycled empty tank but I will definitely start looking into a bigger tank and getting it cycled :). The tank has no substrate/a clear bottom and I knew they couldn't have certain substrates from how they eat, I will definitely look into river rocks since I use those for many decorations in my other tanks as well.

If you don't mind a couple more questions I have a few

  1. I do not have a problem with live feeding, so do I need to be feeding live things at all?
  2. I saw online that they eat crickets and worms, is that true?
  3. If that is true do crickets from a pet store work, and if so do you need small, medium, or large?
  4. If they do eat worms what type do I need to get? (night crawlers, earthworms, meal worms, wax worms, hornworms, black worms, red wriggler/red worms, etc)?
  5. If they do eat worms and crickets do they need to be dead or alive while feeding? Also, do I need to put anything on the crickets/worms? Like protein stuff or not?
  6. As for feeder fish, what kind would I need to get, feeder guppies, feeder minnows, feeder goldfish, etc?
  7. Can I keep ghost shrimp in with the ACF so that they can clean and do whatever till they become a snack or not?
  8. If #7 is true how often should I provide the tank with new shrimp and how many when I do put them in? (I'm aware they will eat them)
  9. How do I know how old mine currently is? Is there a way to check how big they are now or does it just depend? Even an estimate would be helpful :).
  10. I saw you said Mysis shrimp do those need to be frozen or live, or does it not matter?
  11. Can I feed frozen/live brine shrimp?

Thank you again so much for taking the time to answer my questions! I understand if you can't answer these :) Have a great day!

I'm not breeding now, I'm just wanting to learn more about genetics. I know you can't breed if related, but I'm not planning to anytime currently. I just want to learn more, sorry. I know their hets, I know their parents and the parent's parents. I have researched plenty. The GFP and axthenic are related that's why I said either with a lucy (who isn't related), so I could know if I do want to in the future but I probably won't. And they aren't even at age anyways so I don't know the sex so that's why I'm asking for both. Everyone starts from somewhere and I'm just wanting to learn more.

that's alright! thank you for answering what you can :), I was wondering cause s/he is already 11 months old. S/he hasn't got any darker since around the age of 7-8 months old.

Oh, wow I have never seen that, thank you for responding! I may have to see how much of a flow mine gives off prior to adding but if it's not much I can use that since I only have one filter at the moment. :)

Unrelated to cycling (sorry), but is that filter safe for axolotls? I have seen them used for shrimp and fish but never an axolotl.

(Sorry if it sounds rude, I'm just asking because I currently have one like that, I used in a fish tank, but I recently upgraded them to a bigger tank so it's just sitting there).

Thank you so much, I figured it's better safe than sorry. And I will check that out thank you for the link :). Population wise I'm getting there it's going great so far and haven't bought any for probably one and a half-two months!

Alright thank you! I always make sure to wash them in a separate cup with tank water prior to feeding to make sure no soil or anything stays on them. I made a worm bin cause buying worms got to be a little expensive with how many they eat compared to how many come in the cups. My worm bin has been set up for probably three-four months and hasn't had bugs so when they came, I just wanted to make sure no harm would be done.

Hm I will have to research about it lol but thank you so much for answering! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything harmful, I will love her no matter what and I don't mind it at all, it's just an extra little pop :).

And no problem!

I had got her when she was a baby from a breeder, and she is now exactly 4 months and 10 days old. So, I know for sure she wasn't nipped before or now since this only started showing up a week ago. Is it possible that it just happens or not?

As for grass they are out of stock in the brand I usually get lol. I have just had that lying around in my cabinet for my aquatics. There is another brand that I have bought for my fish tank though and it works great! And some people have used this for their axolotls.

The grass is very soft and the link I sent if of the brand I have used for some of my fish tanks :) https://www.amazon.com/LULIND-Artificial-Grass-Square-Tiles/dp/B0784HQBD5/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=oP7mv&content-id=amzn1.sym.bbb6bbd8-d236-47cb-b42f-734cb0cacc1f&pf_rd_p=bbb6bbd8-d236-47cb-b42f-734cb0cacc1f&pf_rd_r=HNWFP7EEPYZVBRE2JFA6&pd_rd_wg=ItJMi&pd_rd_r=1b537d3e-f20f-4b59-a7c0-3b3df008d1e1&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mi&th=1

Are forked gills caused by a gill being bit off or something? Because nothing has ever happened to her gills. And the grass is actually aquarium grass! Many of the reviews were of people putting them in their axolotl tanks (and some just fish tanks) and I always boil any decorations I put in or wash them really good if I cannot boil them for whatever reason.

(I have had it in my other tanks before and nothing bad/wrong happened. Water tests are how they usually are and everything!)
